Newly hired bus operator

That is why they have line training where you learn all

of the lines of the depot that you are working out of.

Not only that you also have to get familiar with the side streets off the route in case of a detour(fire, police, con edison, etc). I am sure they let new B/O's have index

cards where they can write down where to make turns, etc.

Which is why I think working the extra list sucks, you might be working a different line every day, at least if you are working the same line all the time you won't get

lost but all that stuff is seniority based of course.

Thats why if you want to work with mta you should start studiying the routes now , i know every route in manhattan , queens & brooklyn ive been studiying this since i was 2 years old , i always rode the bus & looked @ the maps so i know everything , only thing i dont know is about the bronx , i dont do the bronx .

Any Brooklyn Operators out there? I want to go to a Brooklyn depot but everyone in my depot telling me don't do it. They said its a lot of work and dangerous. I really don't care I just want to know if its that bad.

Ulmer park is good , eny is good & flatbush is good but a friend of mine was at eny but then he transferred to flatbush because flatbush has longer routes but not that ulmer pk , express runs & o.t you get alot of $ . Where do you work @ now if you dont mind me asking?

Anyone that tells you Brooklyn is no good to work in has not worked in the Bronx. I live here and I tell you basically the whole borough is GONE. 70% of the thing at least. I tell you Brooklyn is so much better. I'm prepared to argue my point and show that I'm not a victim of "grass is greener" syndrome. Not here though because I don't want to digress too much.

I was planning on going to Brooklyn because that's where I live. I travel by car to queens, burning a lot of gas. If I have to take public transportation its 2 trains and a bus. I had to do that the day of the snow storm. It was a nightmare. I found out that I could of reported to the depot closest to me which is Flatbush depot.

And as a probie being on time for work is very important.

Those who are waiting on the 8006 list you better have

a reliable car to get around since not all depots are near

public transportation. Grand Ave depot comes to mind.

You might get away with it if you have to go to 180 Livingston or to 750 Zerega Ave. but not to the depot where they send you for training(qualifying).

There was one guy who had to get up at 3:00am during the qualifying days because he had to take a subway/bus combo. It's too bad that they don't give free passes for the

bridges so B/O's can get to and from work.

It's also too bad they don't try and keep you closer to home for training. Once you're hired, it's where they need you and then the pick comes. That I understand.

Since there is no residency requirement for the job, guess

where some of the New Jersey people are going to want to

go, might not be a lot but I am sure there are some on the 8006 list.

Women who smoke are nasty just for that only.

She had no respect for her fellow passengers as

well as the B/O.

Mayor Bloomberg should give this B/O a medal.

You can bet it would have taken the cops 30 minutes

to respond to something like this, take the bus out

of service for something like this? I hope the union

fights for the B/O and beats the rap.

smoking is very nasty.i hate second hand smoke.i think the bo should have called the cops nowadays everybodys running around with these phones that record.people are not seeing the fact that the lady was doing something that could effect other peoples health there acting as the lady was the victim.in the end the public will play the jury in this case.

Yeah I agree, once he escorted her off the bus that should have been

enough. But she had an attitude, you don't think the cops

would have reacted the same way? Some people defy

authority. Like I said before the cops would have taken

their time to respond, I listen in on my scanner and even when there are fights on a bus the police don't always respond asap.

That B/O in the Bronx who was fired a few days ago was worse in my opinion. He was abusive to a 15 yr old girl who didn't have the full fare, let her ride but later on followed her off the bus, grabbed her by the throat and shoved her into a black metal gate.

In my opinion smoking inside a crowded bus is far worse then being a $1.25 short on your fare.

wow. I think he is up shit's creek. Unless you are being attacked, you don't touch a passenger. If, they find out who he is, that is. Shoulda called it in and let the cop's deal with it.

Or if lets say some creep is sexually harassing a female passenger first call it into command or console and then try to subdue the perp right?

The safety of the passengers on the bus is on the B/O right? I wish they at least let B/O's carry handcuffs. A metal baton would be too dangerous.....

Nope. If there is no physical threat to you ( the bus op), you do not get involved in passenger altercations. Stop the bus. Open the doors. Call it in and get off for your own safety if need be.

Let the police come and do "their" job. We are bus operators. Not police officers. You feel like playing hero, be my guest. I have a family to get home to and the pay just ain't worth it. Don't deviate from protocol and keep yourself safe.

Are B/O's judgement proof? In a lawsuit they will sue anybody and everybody.

Yes, the MTA has the deeper pockets but I would think having an insurance

umbrella policy to protect your assets is a wise thing to do.

CYA=also stands for Cover your assets(monetary and property).

Smokey looks like a mental patient, it's too bad that they don't

die sooner rather then later from smoking, they are a drain to society.

Of course the large tobacco companies are at fault here.

Jmazz, out of curiosity, as an experienced driver do you know if Control would've told you to take the bus out of service while waiting for the cops

or would their priority be the schedule. Thanks

Also, since the subject of spelling has previously

come up in the forum, I want to say thanks for writing their

not they're correctly. I'm not an English teacher but this is grade

school stuff. Same with could of and should of instead of could've

and should've. I can't even talk about paragraph length sentences.

I may get ripped for this, bit it's a relief to read English.

Sorry if anyone is insulted.

Honestly, I don't know. I'm not that experienced. lol I was only on the job 7 months b4 being laid off. But if they did, I would have refused to move the bus and let them send a super and point out the "no smoking" sign on the bus. But honestly, I can't see them giving the B/O flack for enforcing that rule. That's just a blatant disrespect for the B/O, other passengers & authority. If I ever come across the situation, I'll post back what the outcome is. :)

but it's a relief to read English.

I posted about that smoking incident on here so we can

learn from the B/O's on here what is the right thing to do.

It takes a few years to get hired but within a matter of minutes you can get fired.

Just because you are in a union and have some seniority

doesn't mean you could make your own rules.

FDBGuy is one of the more educated ones on here and I agree with him about the spelling and grammar mistakes on this forum. What bothers me the most is when a post

is one long paragraph with run on sentences. Impossible to read it. Below is an example of what I am talking about. No offense intended to NASCAR...

______________________________________________

"Hey people wassup??lol I gotta end off the year with ONE more story!lol I know,I know-where have u been NASCAR??Ok just let me tell u that I apologize in advance BUT(GOD FORGIVE ME)this is the funniest sh*t I've seen in a looooong time!U know how u may laugh if someone falls but yur not laughing at if they're hurt or not, just the act of falling?Well......Lemme tell u-Since I wanna make fun of people, lets talk about me first. One day(Can't tell u where)I had to do a Put-in(prepare a train for service for all u civilians) and I had to ride a relay train down in the tunnel and get dropped off where my train is then there's an operator on the other side that pulls away when SAFE to do so.Remember the word "SAFE".Down here u MUST ALWAYS communicate because u don't know where people's minds are.Anyways,I tell the operator at the other end"Partner,I'm getting off on the other end and when I get down to the road-bed, I will let u know on the radio and u can charge up and leave."Ok so I pull the train down dump it and open the door and for some reason the storm door isn't locking so I'm wrestling with this SOB and it finally locks and I put the safety chain on and I hear air release- and guess what??The SOB starts to move and I'm like"NOOOOOOO FVCKIN WAY!!!"I told this DIK that I will let him know when it's SAFE to move via the radio!!!! Guess what I had to do?Yup- jump off that sucker QUICKLY!!!!I threw my bag on the tracks and hopped off that MF!!!It was a scary feeling because I could have been hurt really bad or killed.I'm in pretty good shape but some people down here have back and leg problems and lets face it,some operators are kinda up there in age and I know prolly wouldn't have the BALLZ to jump cuz its REALLY high!!!!!I didn't bang this DIK in because I'm not a sucka like that BUT I can't wait to see him because I'm definitely gonna give him a piece of my mind-and would you believe he came out of my class??lol SOB Anyways,I was ok(thank GOD) and was able to make my interval. This may sound crazy but sometimes workin for Transit either u gonna laugh or you'll end up Cryin! Remember the word CRY!!lolololololol Ok so lets move on to the story of the day...I had a job that required me to do a relay and this time I'm on the other end pulling the train out of the tunnel to go into service south-bound.Ok so the the train operator on the other end dumps the train gives me two buzzes so I can charge up and move into the station when I get the line-up.After I charge up,I'm putting in my ear-plugs and I hear a LOUD scream so I'm like-WTF is that??The scream is getting closer and closer...I hop up and look out my cab window on the operators side and see nothing!WTF is that noise??So I look out the cab window and it sounds like a woman screaming. It's a loud pitch sound! You ever go into a haunted house and hear the fake spooky ghost sounds like.....Whooooooahhhhhhhhhhh.......Whoooooooooahh hhhhhhh........whoooooooahhhhhhhhhhhh??!!!YEH it sounds similar to that but to give you a better picture in yur mind, imagine the Pillsbury Doe Boy yelling Whoooooooooahhhhhhh.......Whoooooooooahhhhhhhh REALLY LOUD!WTF??Ok so I finally see an orange vest and it's a Train Operator yelling into the radio! So I yell saying "what's up partner?? You ok??"The operator kept yelling in the high pitched Pillsbury Doe Boy Ghost voice....."Whoooooooahhhhhhh.....Whooooooooooahhhh hhhh-Control,Control Im the train operator on the ****Put-in(Can't tell U again) and the train took off on me while I was on the back and MY BAG,MY BAG is on the back of the train....Whooooooooooahhhhhhhhhh.........whooooooo oahhhhhh.......MY BAG,MY BAG........Whooooooooahhhhhhhh........Whoooooooooo ooahhhh!!!"So the operator yells to me"let me up....let me up!"So the Operator climbs up to my cab and I open the door and guess what? The operator's sweating and crying like a little kid who lost his/her mama at the mall!Guess what? It's a Grown-azz MAN!!!!!!!!lolololol YESSSSSSSSS a GROWN MAN sounding like a GIRL!!!So controls says to him"Operator calm down with all that anxiety we can't understand what yur saying, can you please talk clearly so we can help you."So the Pillsbury Doe Boy Ghost sounding train operator says "Control-MY BAG,MY BAG is on the relay train that left me and please don't let it leave from the terminal.....Whoooooooooahhhhhhhhh.....Whoooooooah hhhhh.....MY BAG,MY BAG!!" So control finally contacts the tower and says for the Female Operator to contact them when they get to the terminal.LMAO!!!!!FEMALE operator???lolololol Ok it gets better.....The FEMALE sounding Pillsbury Doe Boy Ghost voice Train Operator GRABS the master controller of MY train and tries to take power on some taking of Pelham Bay Sh*t to get the GOD D*MN BAG!!!WTF is wrong with this dude??I take my keys out of the train and finally tell him to RELAX and CALM down because someone is gonna get the bag....GEEEESH! So he's STILL crying and sweating and HOPS off my train and RUNS down the tracks ALL THE WAY into the station hoping to get that BAG!!!!!!!I finally get the line-up and didn't move because a Pillsbury Doe Boy is running down the tracks like a Jack-azz!SMH Later on that day I found out he got the bag because when I came into the crewroom I see him eating his lunch very quietly....Mr.Female sounding Pillsbury Doe Boy Ghost voice Train Operator u ought to be ASHAMED of yurself....MAN UP!!!! Yur worried about a BAG????You could have been seriously hurt or killed and here you are acting like a little wussss!!!!!!You have become the laughing stock of the terminal now.....Whoooooooooahhhhhhh........Whooooooooahhhh hhhh!!Are you kidding me?lolololololol I'm not finished(I know it's a long story)the SAME train that left him was the SAME train I had to jump off of and it's the SAME job Pillsbury Ghost had and the SAME track HIS train was layed up on for him to put into service!!!!!!LMAO lolololololol!!!!!!You CAN'T make this stuff up!!!Seriously,I'm glad he wasn't hurt tho....Everyone have a safe New Year and many Blessings!NASCAR.....IAM Bob Ross"
