So I was taking the (J) and the train went BIE causing it to be delayed. After Broadway Jct the train went express so the C/R changed the FIND system to show all the stops skipped as “Will Not Stop.” Apperently in the R179’s even if the train won’t stop there it stays on the FIND until the train passes the station. Unlike the R160 which just deletes all the stops that the train skips.

Lead car was 3089 train and it went OOS at Jamaica.

An interesting program change.  When it's OOS entirely, the LCD screen also displays "Route Change: This map is not in use."

3134-3135 on its way to NYC

I know it's been asked a lot, but are there any updates on 3070-3077?  I understand they probably needed to make modifications, but how many modifications were necessary given that it's a production set?

Update (with good news):

3102-3105 and 3114-3117 will be running in regular service soon.

3106-3109 and 3118-3121 is doing burn-in.

3122-3125 will be testing in the Rockaways, and have recently arrived.

3126-3129 should be arriving this week or next week.

Surprised the five-car sets still haven't entered service as of yet. I heard they're going through modifications instead of testing. But good to hear that what is currently 48 in regular passenger service on the (J) will become 56 in regular passenger service on said line.

They went up to Bombardier a few months ago and they might also be doing tests there since the MTA is short on resources (which was one of the reasons they're doing the mods at Bombardier).  Either way, the priority is the 4-car sets, so the production 5-car sets likely won't be built under the bulk of the 4-car sets are done.

Oh alright, cool. Guess it'll be a very long while before the (A) gets the R179s unless subject to change of course.

Where will the R32s on the (A) go after the (A) replaces them with R179s?

Unfortunately, some r32's will have to stay on the (A)due to the fact that not enough 10 car r179s were ordered, but the r32's that do get displaced from the A would most likely go to the (B) or (G)

Why would any R32s go on the (B) and (G) anyway when they not only spend less time outdoors (much less than the (A) ‘s Rockaway Peninsula outdoor run anyway) but also the fact that they are already going to be enough R179s to cover the entire (G) fleet plus the Montague Street Tube clearance issue when the former gets rerouted? And the fact that the (L) shutdown will free up some more cars to run in service on the rest of the BMT Eastern Division. All 222 R32s will either stay on the (A) or be retired when all is said and done. Point blank.

The (A) does not need ALL 222 r32's. The (A) will still keep much of its r46's in addition to all 10 car r179's. The (C)  doesn't need all the r46's from the (A) to cover its entire fleet.

As for the remaining r32's and r42's. Not much is going to happen once all r179s are in service.

It needs about over half.

144 service cars + 40 spare cars.

That’s about over half of the R46s being pulled off the (A) for the (C) like the Summers of 2011/12.

So the (A) will still have 112 r46's plus all 10 car r179's, which is 120 cars. Therefore, the (A) will only need about 70 r32's and they might only run during rush hour to the Rockaways.

The rest of the r32's?? They might not run anymore.

All R32s are staying until the R211s arrive. It’s been said and proven multiple times.

Yes,  they will stay, but they will run on a very limited capacity (rush hour).

The r211's will arrive right after the reconstruction of the Canarsie tunnel.

Before, we continue to speculate, we need to keep in mind the number of trains that are needed for each line and the number of subway cars that will be available once all r179s are in service. And yes, there will be a surplus!!!!

Actually there won't be a surplus... The B Division has been operating with a car shortage since 2010...
