I was reading about the S stock trains in London (after Byford name dropped them at yesterday's meeting) and I noticed that they're part of the Movia family of trains.

I guess this would be something only certain employees or higher ups would know the answer to but is the R179 also part of the Movia family or not?

Yes and no. The R179 uses the same technologies, but is customized for NYCT to the extent where it does not completely fall under the umbrella of the "Movia" family of vehicles.

So the correct number should be 3327 if I’m not mistaken.

Exactly

3010-3049 and 3317-3327 will make 14 10 car r179 trains, which will make about 82% of the whole C fleet or about 37% of the whole A fleet.

Based on this math and the cancellation of the Canarsie shutdown, Pitkin/207 will only need 40 r32 car (4 10 car trains) to make the C 100% full length.

The B and G are still strong candidates for the r32's as well.

Again, why would the (B) line need R32’s ? The R68’s from the (G) will be MORE than enough coverage for (B) train service. As far as R32’s on the (G) I personally don’t see it happening but it’s possible for Coney Island to house R32’s again... Supervision would probably run 480ft and 600ft trains on the same line as they do with the (C) That wouldn’t surprise me.

The (G) would need R32s for additional service since they are converting to 8 cars. So the (G) most likely would get the 32s.

There’s enough 8 car R160A’s for (G) train service. The R179 8 car order made a surplus of 104 cars. That’s 13 sets. That’s enough for service. No need for R32’s

There wouldn't be enough R160's, I said this in the R32 thread.

The (M) uses 21 trains, 168 cars. The (M) would require at least 184-200 cars.

The (L) uses 64 R160A-1'S that are cbtc equipped.

That's 248-264 cars right there out of 340.

The (G) would only have 72-92 cars.

NOT ENOUGH cars. The (G) uses 13 train sets. 92 cars Is 11.5 train sets and 72 cars Is 9 train sets.

You would need 4 trainsets of R32's to supplement the (G) plus spares. 4 train sets of 8 is 32 cars. You'll need about 64 cars to have a decent spare factor.

The (M) has to be 100% R160 for QBL cbtc

There would be 23.5 8 car R179 8 car train sets if I'm correct for the (J). So they'll still need some R143 or R160 spares due to the R179's constant issues.

The 10 car R179's would only bump the 50 R42's that would soon run on the (A).

207th would have to keep it's remaining 158 R32's for (A) and (C) service.

By putting the R32's on the (G) it then would bump the 52 cars of R68's to the B,N/W to in turn bump 65 R160's back to Jamaica. Then Jamaica would bump out 52 R46 cars to add on to make full length (C) trains.

The R32's are not going to the (B) that has been confirmed.  Unless they'll pull one off the (G) if they need a train.

207th will still need the R32's since the (C) will go full length.

Out of 158 cars, they'll use only 100. 10 sets which in turn is normal for the R32's.

You guys aren't looking at spare factor.

I think the next passage was mistakenly added to the other forum last night:

The ratio of 4's to 5's changes as Bombardier adds "free" cars to the order in lieu of performance penalty payments to MTA.

The 5-car R-179's won't be delivered until the 4-car sets are all on the premises.  That won't happen until sometime in March as things have stood for some time.

At the 318 car threshold, there are only seven more quads left to deliver.

Much of this depends on good progress in restoring the accepted R-179s to an acceptable level of reliability.

I though there were 8 quads:

3070-3073, 3210-3213, 3214-3217, 3218-3221, 3222-3225, 3226-3229, 3330-3333, 3334-3237

The A has about 38-39 trains. The C has about 17-18 trains. Right now the A is about 98% r46's. If the A gets all 14 10 car r179's, that will displace 14 r46 trains to the C, making the C about 82% full length. The A will only need about 5 10 car r32's to displace 5 more r46 trains to make the C 100% full length with 19 trains.

Also, there is a possibility that the A, C might not get additional trains until the r211's due to the cancellation of the Canarsie shutdown and the budget of course.

As for the G getting r32's. I agree with you 100%.The G might not get enough r160's to cover the whole G fleet.

Let's see what happens though. The number of 10 car r179's might still increase, while the number of 8 car r179's might decrease. Something is definitely going between Bombardier and the MTA in regards to the r179's, so more changes are still possible, but the more 10 car r179's are built, the less r32's will be needed for the A.

The (A) has a train added, the R68A. It's obvious the (A) is short on equipment. The R46's are up there in age as well as the R32's. 14 R179 sets aren't going to help since they'll be shared on both the A/C. The only thing I see the R179's bumping out are the R42's or R46's if the R42's aren't assigned to the A.

It's smart to keep the majority of r32's at 207th. That's where the cars retire at and go to scrap straight from 207th like the r44's.

The R32's are ending their run on 8th ave like the R40 slants and R38's.

The R32's require a high spare factor, if 207th has 100 cars only 60 out of that 100 is used. So ether way 207th will still need the R32's.

With the (C) going full length, you need extra cars.

Where have I seen this before? Oh yeah, when they took them out of service the first time...

Oof. This is why many fans don't like these cars. Including me.
