Once most, if not all, lines have CBTC, how will Museum trains run?

That's a good question. But since it was answered already then I won't say anything.

Anyone know if these cars have an integrated IP network for like Train Motion Commands?  Could this be a reason for the longer testing period?

Probably, I'm just hoping for them to enter service on the (J) train since I rely on it to go to school everyday

Aren't they installing a new fixed block signal system in conjunction with CBTC on the Flushing line? I had heard they were doing this to avoid the fiascoes the (L) has where the line has to essentially not run whenever something goes wrong with CBTC.

I still want to know who' dumb idea it was to remove most of the signals along the (L) , did this person not think of a failsafe when CBTC fails on one of the most used lines in the system?

Ok, we have our first in service date!

Should things go to plan, the R179's will start their 30 day passenger test this upcoming Saturday, the 18th of November, on the (J) line.

Was this confirmed anywhere?

Forgive me if I sound skeptical, but the way this order has gone, I feel like they'd wait at least a little longer testing until they put it in service. Unless, of course, it's passed the 30-day burn in testing.

well, I just hope that the R179's enter service on the (A)(C)(J) and (Z) lines. And since 300 R179's are expected, then

50 R42's gone

222 Revenue R32's are still in and about 110-112 R32's will remain so

the (speculated) fleet assignments would be

(A) 40 cars (4 trains) Replaces 40 R32 cars

(C) 160 cars (20 trains) All R32's replaced on that route

(J)(Z) 120 cars (15 trains): replaces all R42's and some R32's

Awesome!! I'm assuming that it's the two 8 car sets that will do the passenger test on the J.

What's your source on this?

This don't add up... 40+160+120 = don't  equal 300  R179s on order...

you math is 20 cars more than what was ordered...

let's revise by taking 20 cars out. then there wouldbe

(A) 40 cars (4 trains)

(C) 136 cars (17 trains)

(J)(Z) 120 cars (15 trains)

Then there would be an extra 4 car set, is that better for ya

Unless there's a confirmed source, I'm not buying it.

I take no offense, and you have every right to be skeptical. The current schedule is for a Saturday commencement of the 30-day test. That's obviously subject to change, but that's that.
