Do you know why are work trains in the express track and when will they be done?

It's just bulls... from the MTA. Why don't they use the express track on the F line to run the work trains. Express service is needed along 4th Avenue during the evenings. The D is very crowded during the evenings and having the D run local is making the crowding worse.

This 10 car set is generating more excitement than when the 8 car set first went into service on the (J)  lol.

The eight-car sets on the (J) are essentially newer 160s with a different propulsion system, which isn't a big draw since that line is saturated with NTTs. The ten-car set running on the (A) makes it the first time in over a decade that a new tech train is running on the 8th Avenue express / Fulton St express / Rockaways lines that wasn't a rerouted (E) train or an emergency put-in to make service after an event or something. Different circumstances entirely.

Has anyone noticed that the announcement system on 3010-3019 is slightly faster then the ones on the 4 car sets?

After all that time sitting idle at Bombardier and here in the city, they probably upgraded the announcement system to be on par with the rest of the NTTs. I wonder if they fixed that glitch where "the next stop is/this is" all comes from the (A), regardless of route.

I thought so as well. There's no longer that long pause in between announcements, so that's good. Regarding the (A) glitch, I can ask my friend to try out one of the Broadway programs and see if it works.

Now that the MTA announced that the G won't be full length, what do you think the MTA should do with the surplus of 8 car trains??

A. Leave some 8 car r179's on the C until the r211's.

OR

B. Extend the J either to Bay Ridge or Bay Parkway during rush hour.

OR

C. Other (Please Explain)

C. Get more B cars to make the current 4-car sets on the (C)  5-car sets...😎 pipe dreams in the sky...

Nah..just observing  the chaotic decision making of the MTA , they're more likely to chose

D. Just wait until the (C)  no longer needs them and then give them to (G)  because they have no other choice if and only if the (L)(J)(M)(Z) don't need them for some reason in the future...🙄

If the (C) stays 8 cars, the (C) will only have 10 trainsets of R179's meaning 8 sets of R32's would have to cover the rest of the (C). The (J) uses 12 trains already, 3070-73 would make it 12.5 trains.

The (A) in theory would loose some R46's if the R46-160 swap happens between Jamaica and Coney island. CI would need extra R46's for increased spare factor since they're loosing 80% of their most reliable cars. 13 R179 trainsets would bump 13 trainsets of R46's.

You have 222 R32 cars. If the (C) stays 8 cars, you'll need 64 cars to create 8 trains of 8 car trains.

If the (A) continues to use R32's it would likely only use 6 trains. That's 60 cars, in total that's 104 cars needed for both services.

207th would need to keep about 60-80 cars for spares, Thats 164-184 cars. If anything the whole R32 fleet would stay and the (A) and (C) would have a large spare factor. Meaning the (A) can rotate between R46's and R32's.  They probably do that now.

If the (C) goes full length, the (C) would still use R32's alongside the 10 car R179's and R46's. Maybe the R42's to keep the spare factor high.

It would make more sense for the (A) to loose the R46's to Coney Island yard if it gets the R46's from jamaica.

No point giving coney island R32's now since the (G) isnt going 8 cars.

I agree with you the D & N are very crowded in Bensonhurst. But why are the work trains there in the first place?

The work trains come from 36th street yard in Sunset Park, which connects with the West End line between 9th Ave and 36th street.

The work trains use the 4th Ave line to access the rest of the Subway system.

But why do they need to be stored there after 7 pm? What's the purpose? And when will they finish?

It's still possible for the C to have 8 full length trains (either r32's or r46's) in addition to the 10 8 car r179's, while the A may still have a mix fleet of r179's/r46's/r32's.

As for the G, service will be added during overnight and weekends, while construction is being done on Canarsie and it will most likely be r68's borrowed from the B and/or W trains.

Then, in that case, the MTA should consider moving these work trains to Coney island yard or to another yard and restore express service on the D and N trains along 4th Avenue.

At least in Coney island yard they can use the unused express track on the F to get through the rest of the system.

I believe the construction materials is placed on the Work trains at 36th Street yard, I don't think they just up and move the operation to CI Yard.

And on top of that, 36th St was made to be a work yard. I dont know if they still layup (R) trains over there.

What they could do is lay up the trains on the (D) express track along West End Avenue, but then the (R) put ins would have to be altered.
