Why would you waste your highest performance equipment on a short, infrequent set of runs? Them wanting them there this weekend shouldn't be taken as being indicative of them wanting them there in the long run.

In the summer it's full length trains to rockaway blvd. At night the train can be split into 2 and run as an opto train in which they will want to test. Like everyone else said on here. It's likely to also test to see how they do out in the rockaways.

Maybe they're testing the set out there to see how well it can handle under primary Rockaway Power.

Haven't the power issues in the Rockaways been fixed for ages?

I'm aware that they run full length during the summer; question is why should we use the 179s for those trips rather than 46s.

There's no real need to test OPTO functionality, as there are (sadly) no carborne functions that are OPTO-specific.

I think they were debating that using NTT as long term shuttle. I wont be surprised that R179 runs on (D) or (F) as service changes.

I would not be surprised if an 8 car winds up on the (B) this summer for Central Park extras...

When has the (B) ever used (C) equipment?

It’s been put out there that the R179s are still experiencing problems. Can anyone shed light on what these issues may be?

Welding defects in the collision columns, but I believe Byford said they're not impactful to the structural integrity or strength of the cars (so it won't require some massive sidelining of the fleet)

if R179s is still experiencing problems, why don't they retire them and stop the productions of R179s.

Retire fresh-off-the-factory trains? Are you for real right now? It'll be beneficial financially to purchase and run those R179s now than to spend a needless amount of money just to upkeep a fleet of 50+ year old trains on their last legs that will get replaced anyways.

Plus, as was stated multiple times in the past, this is nothing new. The R142s...also Bombardier made...have had their share of problems upon delivery. But look at it now 20 years after the fact. It's become one of the most reliable cars in the system.

Didn't the r160's have issues as well during deliveries??

It's also a good thing that these issues are being addressed now and not a few years later, like it happened with the r46's and r68's during the 70's and 80's.

R-179 sightings last week:

ALL 88 R-179's assigned to 207 Street are now in service!

Friday, May 10:  3238/39/40/41/3242-3243/44/45/46/3247 burn-in on (A) SB at 103 Street (8 Av Exp) around 12:30 PM.

R-179's 3146-3149 was in a SB (J) at Essex St. with 3138-41 around 10:30 AM.

Just my guess at it, the R179s have teething problems to be resolved and that from (A)(C) and (J) , any line that's mentioned, the voice of "The Next Stop is" will always be the sound of the person from the (C) train, Kathleen Campion.

When is delivery expected to be complete by?

Barring more interruptions, sometime in September 2019.

Hopefully we'll see 3253-3257 arriving this week.

The first "production" 10-car train could be on the (A) by the end of NEXT week.  That would make for two of the 13 ordered.
