I’m curious, what keeps on happening to the R179’s that they are always being taken out of service?

I guess it is normal for new trains to be taken out of service very often during the first few months of service to inspect them and address any issues. It happened with previous NTT'S. It is better to address them now and not a few years later like it happened with the r46's and r68's during the 70's and 80's.

@m2fwannabe Any R46 transfers recently since the 3 set of R179s went into service on the (A)?

Been on vacation and the paperwork is still piling up, but it is reported that the next eight cars went to Jamaica as of June 17.

Any new deliveries?

As of same date (June 17), 3268-3272 had been delivered to 207.  I don't know if they've been moved to Pitkin for acceptance yet, others might.

Just in case anyone is looking for them, the R179s are back to back on the (A) Line (Currently riding 3010-3019 at Howard Beach and the other one should be around Jay St (3238-3247 departed 20 minutes earlier).

Do the R46s even still run on the (C) at this point? They've essentially stopped running on the latter from what i've seen...

(apologies if i sound dumb, haven't really been keeping up to date with this thread)

As recently as early-mid June, yes they've popped up. Though not to a high degree (many days I've seen had none).

There’s been too many incidents with the (C) having R46’s along with R32, and R179’s so the superintendent prefers to keep the 46’s off the (C)

What sorts of incidents might this be?

Probably some confusion in regards to train length and perhaps the MTA's decision to "postpone" the plans for making the C and G full length trains until the r211's.

It seems that the r46's are still making occasional appearances on the C.

Here's another r179 clip:

Wonder why they don’t put Fulton St Exp on the (A) FIND

They all should have Charlie's announcements. The new announcements sound terrible.

*Located by the storm doors, if that's what you call it

Because it takes longer time wise to relay and R46 vs. an R32/R179 at both Euclid and 168.  Although at 168 there is the benefit of a benchwall for most or all of the walk for the t/o. Euclid relay does not.  Therefore in many instances 2 t/o's are needed to relay an R46.  This could mean overtime, especially if the C has a lot of R46's that day.  Overtime eats into the superintendent's budget.  The less overtime, the better the superintendent looks to "The General".

Plus it's confusing seeing full length R46 and short length R32/R179 on (C).

Whats confusing about it...Except that the R46 uses the whole length of the platform...

People should have a reasonable expectation of where to stand on the platform for a train. Sprinting for trains is inconvenient and dangerous.

I mean, really speaking all relays should be double ended...but if they’re not going to budget basic competence items like that, the 60’ cars are a lot better.
