Tech And Transit Posted March 31, 2016 Share #2326 Posted March 31, 2016 I believe that the propulsion used on the 142As, 143s and now 188's was manufactured by ADtranz. The propulsion was discontinued but Bombardier brought it back for the R188 order. The R179's will most likely have MITRAC, and will probably sound similar to the Toronto Rocket or maybe even the 2009 London Tube Stock (which I believe uses MITRAC as well, not sure).

Yes but halfway through the R142A order Bombardier bought Adtranz. I know for a fact that at the very least the R142S have the Bombardier MITRAC 1508C if not some of the later R142As. I think that all the R143s have the Adtranz version. I have yet to hear it be discontinued only that transit authorities aren't spec'ing it in their trains.
Fresh Pond Posted March 31, 2016 Share #2328 Posted March 31, 2016 Exactly. R32's should not be on a line like the , they should be out in the open, like the Rockaways. ...so you're saying they should be on the ? They'll still spend the same amount of time underground regardless

I thought so - and yes, most new Bombardier cars use MITRAC (albeit newer versions that produce different sounds).

There was a previous post that was deleted that related to an inappropriate remark towards the R179.

Javier Posted April 28, 2016 Share #2336 Posted April 28, 2016 Still the same. I have a question tho, why is the MTA backtracking on the design for the R211's. Why aren't they featuring LED's instead of rollsigns?
Lance Posted April 28, 2016 Share #2337 Posted April 28, 2016 Where did you hear this? You have a tendency to drop random tidbits of "information" that's actually completely false.
Threxx Posted April 28, 2016 Share #2338 Posted April 28, 2016 (edited) Still the same. I have a question tho, why is the MTA backtracking on the design for the R211's. Why aren't they featuring LED's instead of rollsigns? The sign in the mockup not a rollsign but a full-size HD screen which would display the route bullet. It's an upgrade. Also, isn't there a thread for the R211's? Edited April 28, 2016 by Threxx
Javier Posted April 28, 2016 Share #2339 Posted April 28, 2016 My bad Lance, I was referring to the mockup picture of the R211's. And Threxx, ah so it's a HD screen. I thought it was a rollsign at first because the front looked similar to the R46's. And yes your right, there is a R211 thread and I don't know why I'm posting here :/
Eric B Posted April 29, 2016 Share #2340 Posted April 29, 2016 It could well be LED's, as they've come a long way and even the RGB's are small enough to can better mimic smaller printed graphics now. Like the big signs in the Fulton Transit Center.
Javier Posted April 29, 2016 Share #2341 Posted April 29, 2016 Should I create the R179/R42/R32 Fleet swap discussion thread since the pilot is going to come in less the two months?
MysteriousBtrain Posted April 29, 2016 Share #2342 Posted April 29, 2016 Should I create the R179/R42/R32 Fleet swap discussion thread since the pilot is going to come in less the two months? Why? we already know the fate of the R32s/42s. Plus, the R188 thread is used to talk about R62A swaps. Just post it in this thread or the R32 one.
Javier Posted April 29, 2016 Share #2343 Posted April 29, 2016 Weren't we just being yelled at for discussing the R62A's in the R188 topic?
P3F Posted April 30, 2016 Share #2344 Posted April 30, 2016 Weren't we just being yelled at for discussing the R62A's in the R188 topic? I assume that the moderator who yelled at someone for such an action was mistaken. If that moderator was right in their actions, then you should definitely create your new thread.

Q113 LTD Posted May 7, 2016 Share #2346 Posted May 7, 2016 I hope R179 would have the R142A propulsion and it would be cool if Jessica Ettinger could do the announcements. If that really happen, then it will remind me of riding the Lexington Line.

subwayboy Posted May 7, 2016 Share #2348 Posted May 7, 2016 A few more weeks until the R179 pilot is supposed to arrive in NYC. Do we have an actual date? Will it be a big media announced / covered event?
RTS9000 Posted May 7, 2016 Share #2349 Posted May 7, 2016 Do we have an actual date? Will it be a big media announced / covered event? There aren't any big dates as far as I know, and I'm pretty sure that the R179 pilot will only be covered by the media when it hits the road for burn-in testing (which would probably take a few more weeks after the delivery date, as did the R188s when they first came).
trainfan22 Posted May 7, 2016 Share #2350 Posted May 7, 2016 Do we have an actual date? Will it be a big media announced / covered event? It won't be a big media event, the plot cars will most likely be delivered in the middle of the night. They might put them on display at Hoyt like they did the R160s when they was new... http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?45346
