INDman Posted January 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2011 While at 207th St last week, car 8277 aka the Canarsie Rocket was spotted in the overhaul shop. It has been stripped down and has NOT been fixed either. The new plan is for the 207th St. shop to rebuild the car since having this car OOS means that the other 3 cars are also OOS. INDman Posted January 23, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted January 23, 2011 was that the one that fell off the ledge? No, it hit the block in the yard at Canarsie and the car went up in the air. The truck didn't fall off and bent the frame.

Like this?: Lead car involved in a bumper block overshoot incident in Canarsie Yard, 6/21/2006. Frame bent. Being stripped of parts for possible repair but may be permanently out of service. mark1447 Posted January 24, 2011 Share #9 Posted January 24, 2011 What other car? Wasn't there another R143 sent to Kawasaki for repairs?
INDman Posted January 24, 2011 Author Share #10 Posted January 24, 2011 Wasn't there another R143 sent to Kawasaki for repairs? Only one car was sent out and the photo I posted was the car, R143 8277.
Grand Concourse Posted January 24, 2011 Share #11 Posted January 24, 2011 Wasn't there another R143 sent to Kawasaki for repairs? If you mean the 8th Av crash, wasn't that 'minor' and fixable? But in anycase, a full rebuild of that R143 is going to be expensive.. this is why the R143s should've been compatible with the R160s. Then they could've had kawasaki send a replacement car for that R143.
INDman Posted January 24, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted January 24, 2011 If you mean the 8th Av crash, wasn't that 'minor' and fixable? The one that hit the block at 8th Av was repaired and returned to service a long time ago.
m7zanr160s Posted January 25, 2011 Share #13 Posted January 25, 2011 Good to hear that it's being rebuilt. Three perfectly usable cars have been sitting unused for years. I guess that's a minor issue when it comes to train sets.

INDman Posted January 25, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted January 25, 2011 Any schedule on when 8277 will be up again? No date yet, but a friend of mine will be in charge of the work.
m7zanr160s Posted January 26, 2011 Share #17 Posted January 26, 2011 You do realize those three cars couldn't be used without another 'A' car, right? That's what I'm saying. To me, having sets of four and five cars is good for numerous reasons. The only drawback is that when one gets damaged, the rest have to sit. Kanarsie Guy Posted January 26, 2011 Share #18 Posted January 26, 2011 I might be wrong but if it was a B car u could still run the set right.
INDman Posted January 26, 2011 Author Share #19 Posted January 26, 2011 I might be wrong but if it was a B car u could still run the set right. Yes but it would be an ABA set. I don't think it would be able to run under CBTC though.
