ABQ RIDE Posted January 27, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2011 According to this article: http://247wallst.com/2011/01/26/boeing-considering-replacement-for-737-ba-luv/ The Boeing 737 successor should be in service by 2020. Furthermore, Boeing has filed a patent for a new WIDEBODY (2-3-2, same as the 767) design to replace the 737 family. It remains to be seen whether the 737 successor will actually use such design though. With composite materials, such a design may actually work out without too much weight penalty. Nova RTS 9147 Posted January 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2011 Technically they already had it. It's the Boeing 787-3, which is a widebody and has the range of a Boeing 737-800. They made a mistake canceling the variant.
East New York Posted January 27, 2011 Share #3 Posted January 27, 2011 Technically they already had it. It's the Boeing 787-3, which is a widebody and has the range of a Boeing 737-800. They made a mistake canceling the variant. The 787-3 is regular 787 width, which is much much more than the one in the above proposal. And the 3 will end up coming back out one day. Japan will demand it!

I was actually shocked the Japanese didn't make an issue of it when it was canceled.
SoSpectacular Posted January 28, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 28, 2011 A widebody 737 successor would be awesome... They could shorten the fuselage quite a bit that way...
