New Apple Store will be 'Grand'

By GARRETT SLOANE NY Post

February 18, 2011

The tech giant will bring its iPads, iPods, iPhones and Macs to Grand Central Terminal this fall when it opens what will be its largest store in the world on the east and northeast balconies, sources said yesterday.

The store, to be Apple's fifth in Manhattan, will displace Charlie Palmer's Métrazur restaurant, The Post has learned.

Métrazur's partners are scouting new locations.

To make room, Grand Central may open the vacant northeast balcony, next to Michael Jordan's Steakhouse, a source said.

Reserved. The Apple Store will boot Métrazur. The store will stretch more than 16,000 square feet, reports say. Construction is set for May.

A partner at Métrazur called the news a "rumor" and declined to comment further. Apple, too, declined to comment on "speculation."

The MTA also declined comment."

This is exactly what we DON'T need in Grand Central. There's already enough tourists in there as it is and there's only a few nice restaurants that I frequent that aren't mobbed. I'll just have to pick and choose when I go there. :( Then again maybe it won't be so bad. Most of the tourists annoy me on 5th Ave anyway.

Before I had a data plan I used to use those hot spots and looking back on it, I would probably be less willing to use unsecured hot spots in the future. You're really leave yourself exposed. Everytime that I'd use the service in Bryant Park my anti-virus would start sending me all sorts of messages about hackers and such...

Free wifi would be great to play online games, obviously I wouldn't check my e-mails or do sensitive stuff like look up my bank accounts etc.

As for GCT, does seem odd, but I'm definitely gonna visit it when the construction is done. Can't find a better location than there.

Using public wifi hotspots is fine, just make sure you turn off all sharing services. If you're running Windows, well, you'll need a firewall for sure.

I only use wi-fi hotspots on my PSP on the off-chance my phone is dead and/or dying and I need to get in contact with someone

Other than that, 3G and my phone is all I need lol

There's usually nothing "wrong" with 3G mobile broadband, I mean, i'm a heavy user myself, but the availability and reliability of those networks is just terrible.

While some connectivity is better than none at all, the quality of the service provided is fairly hokey at best.

My internet from my data card on the express bus is always dropping and my Blackberry can never get internet in places that it should... Can't wait to drop AT&T. I thought things would get better after dumping T-Mobile some years back.... :(

Being old school unless I am going away for a trip i.e weekend visit to see my brother/his kids in NJ or seeing my other family in San Diego, I never carry my laptop with me myself. Just have a pre paid cell phone and 'cheap' MP3/FM radio tuner for rides on Metro North or the NYC subway/bus system.

I still have yet to get my 1st Apple device.:(

I need my laptop and datacard during the week for work in case I have a rush project and am not in the office since my clients are in different time zones all over the place, but also, it gives me access to do a lot of things on the go, which is great.
