Today, i was riding a (R) to 65 St with my family and passing by each (R), its all R46. Does this mean that R160s are no longer assigned to the (R)? or is it that its still on the (R)?

The ®omeo does have R160's assigned to it, you just gotta catch one.

I see at least two sets a day...

I saw one earlier today while heading to work

(It seems like they're put-ins)

BTW isn't this like the millionth thread about the same topic?

I've rode an R160 (R) as early as 6:30 in the morning.

It all depends on what's available at the yard...always has been.

Jamaica yard has 810 (8713-8722 and 9143-9942) R160's and needs about 700 to meet E and F service needs. E and F run only R160's. Given maintenance/repair requirements, there can be anywhere from none to 5 or so R160's available for R service.

Pretty much the norm. Head out to 71st right after 2pm, it won't be hard to find one. I get them without trying every time.

@Calvin: There are 2 R160 consists and 27 R46 consists assigned to the (R) line. The 2 R160s were probably someplace other than where you were.

nope, cause according to joekorner, it has 2 sets assigned but after Day 1 or 2 from a trip, all i saw are R46s

Remember, cars are assigned to yards, not lines, so while the (R) should use two R160 consists, they may have been placed on the (E) or (F) lines because those lines needed an extra train or two.

Maybe the one in front of you?

Anyway, for the third time. Why is a car assignment so important? We're here to learn something, not to argue about R160s.

Does it matter really? These cars have a few decades left unlike the R-46 I doubt they'll make it to 2020.Somedays I don't see or catch an R-68 or R-68A (B) train but that doesn't mean they aren't assigned or run on the (:P anymore.

Like someone said before cars are assigned to yards not lines. Therefore the (B) is based out of Coney Island whatever is there and is needed it will run on a line.Any day we can see an R-160 pop up on the (B) b\c there may be a shortage in equipment or the other equipment can't be used for service due to it being checked or whatever.

R-160's are on the (R) 6/7 days of the week sometimes 7 sometimes less depending on what needed. There are not many but they're around. The Coney Island put-in for the (R) is usually an R-160.

If there is a spare R160 lying around in CI won't it get sent on to the (N) instead?

And if Jamica does have spare R160's why shouldn't they run them on the (R)? They perform better than the R46's and its more pleasing to see as well.

It's not CI's equipment though.Since the (R) has no other place to put a train.Samething with the (D) put-ins but its a Concourse based yard.

Every yard has spares known as a GAP train which is put on a SPUR track or layup or unused express track.I don't think you'll ever see a train yard empty.

Management could care less as to what is more appealing to people. All that matters is that they get a train on the road to avoid an abandoned interval which can cause the line to become infrequent due to an AI.
