"An MTA Human Resources staffer is under investigation for taking cash payments from job hunters in a pay-to-work scheme, the Daily News has learned.

Ronica Ganesh, 28, is suspected of promising applicants she could snag them entry-level subway mechanic positions for at least $1,000, sources said.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority inspector general's office and Manhattan prosecutors are also probing whether Ganesh fudged applicants' test scores for an additional $500, sources said.

'It's a whole can of worms,' said a former transit worker who spoke to investigators.

Ganesh, who was suspended without pay Thursday, denied any wrongdoing.

'These are false allegations,' she said through the door of her South Ozone Park home.

Asked how she came under suspicion, she said, 'There was somebody who was harassing me.' She would not elaborate."

Again if you ask me there should be no MTA..it's too big and just too much to manage; break it down by the sub-agencies: NYCT, Metro North, LIRR, LI Bus, etc

I don't think it's too big to handle. I just don't trust the people running the (MTA), and our transit agency, and why would we break up the (MTA) to form seperate agencies they would charge different prices which could be higher then we could afford, and just ignore us whole.

First the switch scam now this. What else is the (MTA) hiding. Or is it a corrupt transit agency that needs to be taken down, and reestablished.

The grass is not always greener on the other side. There would be problems with that too. This was also an incident within NYCT's HR Division and not the MTA and could have just as easily happened had NYCT not been under the MTA umbrella.

Heh, shes from India, where Bribes are commonplace and mandatory to get anything or get out of anything. She took her practices from there and transferred them to the MTA .. Niiiiiice.

Exactly. Were that the case, the Transit Authority would be one of the worse performing agencies and we'd be talking about large fare increases very soon. Be careful what you wish for.

i heard the way she was caught was because people that paid her got laid off and they wanted their money back. this is just rumor but it sounds possible.

I heard that one too, I would not be surprised if it were true though.

Corruption, thy name is MTA.

I hope she is fired from her position. I also hope she faces a criminal trial and is made into an example of what happens when you get caught.

I Like indian women, Atleast let me screw the Sh&*t out of her before she turns into a lesbian in jail.

damn its a shame that (MTA) has these slick bastards in their agency but yet they put all the TA workers to shame and looks what's happeing upstairs with the suits and ties, jay walder may look like a fool now.

This is exactly why all jobs should be civil service, exam based. Were the jobs that people paid bribes to get provisional or civil service? I don't see how you could pull off such a stunt when you have an established list.

EDIT: The article says those who gave bribes were provisional workers. Proves my point that nonsense like this can't happen when you have an established list for permanent, civil service positions. The MTA needs to stop hiring so many provisionals.

The article also interviews a worker who said he was given a failing grade for the practical exam twice so that he would be fired and replaced with someone who bought the job. I don't buy it. If that was the case, there would have had to been more people invovled in this scheme than the HR person.
