Grand Concourse Posted March 19, 2011 Share #26 Posted March 19, 2011 Sure they are still responsible for his contract, but at least you clear up a roster space and maybe pick up a draft pick? [not sure if that's how it works.] At least Alderson is doing what he's intended to do; cut the fat contracts ad the old hags, including Castillo. One can only hope he cleans up the Mets the way Walsh has done for the Knicks.
Rick44 Posted March 21, 2011 Share #27 Posted March 21, 2011 Watch the Phillies pick up Castillo. Sure enough
Grand Concourse Posted March 21, 2011 Share #28 Posted March 21, 2011 And no surprise, Olie Perez has been cut from the team. Sure they have to eat the contract, but at least they get rid of a cancer.
Shortline Bus Posted March 21, 2011 Share #29 Posted March 21, 2011 And now my 2011 MLB regular season picks. I not going to guess the win/loss column that too hard. Last Year I picked Texas to win the AL West and guess who was right lol? American League East Red Sox Yankees Blue Jays Rays Orioles AL East Comments: If the Yanks starting pitching holds up they will win at least the AL Wild Card. Burnett and even Hughes are the 'x' factor for the entire division and maybe the entire AL. If not the Yanks in probably the best division in MLB, could finish as low as 3rd place. Central Twins White Sox Tigers Royals Indians AL Central Comments: Until proven other wise, Minny should win this division. They could if everyone is healthy i.e Mauer, Nathan, etc. could advance to the world series as well. West Rangers A's Angels Mariners AL West Comments: By default Texas should win the weakest division in MLB right now even w/ losing Lee. With that said, oakland could be this year 'sleeper' as a surprise team IMO to compete in this division. AL Wild Card: Yankees National League East Phillies Braves Marlins Nationals Mets NL east comments. No this is not a misprint:o. I think the Mets in an improving Division will finish dead last. The Nats are improving and so are the Marlins. Central Reds Brewers Cubs Cards Pirates Astros NL Central comments. Other than the AL East, this is maybe the 2nd division in MLB. This is close as both the ubs and Brewers have closed the gap. If Reds have problems w/ injuries, the Brew Crew or Cubbies can win this division. West Rockies Giants Padres D-backs Dodgers NL West Comments. The Giants overacheived to 'upset' both the Phillies and Rangers to win the World Series. However their team is offensive challenged. However with the 2nd best starting rotation in MLB (after the Phillies)they be in battle with Rockies to win this. SF's closer is out on injury list to start the season not a great sign. Close but I think the Rockies win this. NL Wild card: Very Close. I pick the Giants but the Braves, Brewers and Cubs will be in the mix here as well. Shortline Bus Posted March 22, 2011 Share #30 Posted March 22, 2011 Shows you how underrated Chase Utley has been/is to the Phillies. He out with a knee injury that could be a big impact on Phillies offense. No wonder Catillio was signed by Philly so quick. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/jon_heyman/03/18/phillies.utley/index.html
Shortline Bus Posted March 24, 2011 Share #31 Posted March 24, 2011 Intresting article. Forbes has just released it's annunal report(at least since 1998 anyhow)of the business of MLB including the estimated value of each club. No Surprise the NY Yankees are the most valuable in baseball(also 2nd in the world only to Manchester United of soccer english priemer league)and the Mets falling from the 'top 5' to the middle of the pack. Here article. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/03/24/forbes-mets-value-drops-13-percent-yankees-top-list/
Shortline Bus Posted March 26, 2011 Share #32 Posted March 26, 2011 And no surprise, Olie Perez has been cut from the team. Sure they have to eat the contract, but at least they get rid of a cancer. Well Ollie has been signed by the Nats. Maybe if they lucky he be a middle innings 'mop up' specialist that eats up picthes in a blowout game one way or the other. Also any other picks for the 2011 season?
Shortline Bus Posted March 27, 2011 Share #33 Posted March 27, 2011 Looks like the Yanks home opener vs the Tigers could be in jeopardy of being postponed. Grand Concourse Posted April 4, 2011 Share #48 Posted April 4, 2011 Too early to say. I'd generally wait till a pitcher pitches 3-4 games to get an idea of how they might be for the season. [Which can be totally off as how Burnett just burned after a great start.]
