Just stated on the Yankees broadcast that Jimenez has reportedly been traded to Cleveland.

The Yankees have also scored 12 runs in the first inning. Gotta feel sorry for Zach Britton -- in a total of one inning in the Major Leagues he's given up 17 runs, 13 earned, against the Red Sox and Yankees.

...and 9 of em, thanks to the Yankees in 1/3rd B)

btw, they aint stoppin yet.... right now it's 16-1....

Far as Ubaldo goin to Cleveland, I just heard about it too...

Good.... Now they can shutup about him comin here to NY...

I really wish Seattle get a dose of reality and start to offer Pineda or King Felix. Obviously, they aren't going to survive with only two great pitchers. Their offense has been a struggle for years already and they still haven't bothered to do anything about it. King Felix or Pineda ought to be offered for a few decent hitting prospects and a pitcher and in a few years Seattle might be contenders. IMHO, Jack Zdur&(@(&(*@ and the Mariners are giving their fans a slap in the face by not doing anything to improve their already shitty team

Also, apparently the Rox have lowered their asking price

http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/43956841/ns/sports-player_news/

I would still refuse to throw in Nova though. However, if the Rockies accept Hughes instead then I think it would be a no doubter for Cashman

It's the same deal with the Mets and Reyes, sure they can trade him while he's got value, but he's basically the 'star attraction'. You can't get rid of him without pissing off the fanbase. Plus it seems like King Felix likes it there. Who knows if he can handle pitching in a big market place like NY or Boston on a 'daily' basis?

Let's be fair to AJ for a minute here... he's pitched a couple games this year really well but still got the loss since the bats fizzled. But generally I agree with you. AJ is too boom or bust.

I agree, if he got some of the run support that Hughes or Sabathia got, those close losses could've been wins.

7, I hear you fam.... but me, I've run out of patience with the guy....

first it was his injury proneness (I'm glad he's been durable w/ his stint here, I'll give him that much).... But this whole lack of focus supposedly tied to some mental issue he was having last year, and apparently this year also... I'm watchin this guy pitch, and it's like... When is it all gonna come together; when is it all gonna "click"....

I'm tired of the mental excuse... everytime he starts, it's either feast or famine..... a high amt. of k's/appearance, or he gets knocked out in less than 5...... I'm not just talkin about this year, but overall w/ him here in NY - as our number 2, he's got to put up or shutup... it's been what, his 3rd season here......

He's not doin that much better than Colon or Garcia (if, at all)..... 2 guys who were brought here to basically pitch .500 ball (w/ the retirement of Pettitte).... A team that's 20 games over 500 don't need a 3rd guy pitching at that same mark.... Makes you worry come playoff time, ya know.....

I agree, the guy is jekyll and hyde. You don't know if you got a lights out or a time bomb waiting to implode. That A's game, even though he didn't the the call he wanted, he should've thrown a similar pitch to get himself out of the inning instead of letting things get out of hand. And this is the friggin A's. That's very bad news if this was vs Boston in the ALCS.

As for Hughes, I think that if he flubs up again, he should either go to the pen where he did well in 2009 or take Nova's place in AAA, I'd rather have Nova now than a big "?" with Hughes.

Zach Britton has become the first pitcher in MLB history to have consecutive starts with less than 1 inning pitched and 8 or more earned runs allowed. His ERA over those two starts is an awful 117. Not a way for any pitcher to enter the history books. I hope he recovers from the nightmares he is having right now.

He should probably just become at best a reliever/one batter specialist or just play OF. the only thing he has going for him is he didn't throw maybe 4-5 consecutive wild pitches.

Nah, just send him down like they did the guy who pitched the afternoon game (provided of course they have someone to take his place). They called him up for this game, gave him another chance, and he blew it. Which means he obviously has things to work on.

This MLB update for Sunday Night 7/31/11 is presented by Pepsi Zero. The offical soft drink of baseball.

As the 5pm ET trade deadline comes and goes, no major blockbuster trades were made on the final day of the trade deadline.

Meanwhile the Yankees sweep the O's. Baltimore which had a nice start to the season, are now assured another last place finish but they seem to be a team on rise.

While the Mets lose a heartbreaker in DC. And in Philly at the CBP, the Phils sweep the "Miracle" Pirates. While i am rooting for the Bucs(Yankees are of course my team for life lol)this year in NL, IMO i have doubts they can stay with the Cards and Brewers in NL Central and the Braves for the wild card.

Thus unless their 'lights out' starting pitching continues, i think their serious challenge for a playoff spot is getting slim for Pittsburgh.

So any reactions to the trading deadline deals? Did the Indians just won the AL Central with getting Ubaldo? Also can the Yankees get to the World Series despite having lack of pitching? And did the Pirates 'blow' a chance at a playoff spot not getting a "Power Hitter" at the deadline?

Let the MLB chat begin.:)

In an MLB update provided by Subway:

The Trade Deadline has ended with a few big deals:

-Ubaldo Jimenez heading to Cleveland for some prospects

-Hunter Pence heading to Philadelphia for some prospects

-The Pittsburgh Pirates finally earned some veteran presences to lead their young clubhouse in the form of 1B Derrek Lee from Baltimore and OF Ryan Ludwick from San Diego

-The Arizona Diamondbacks finally added some needed help to their pitching staff by adding reliever Brad Ziegler from Oakland in exchange for 1B Brandon Allen and Jordan Norberto. In addition to Ziegler, Arizona also picked up starter Jason Marquis.

-Boston picked up veteran starter Erik Bedard in a 3-way deal with Seattle and the Dodgers.

-Hunter Pence wasn't the only Astro to leave Houston as leadoff OF Michael Bourn will head off to Atlanta.

-Relievers Koji Uehara and Mike Adams went to Texas to bolster their bullpen. For Uehara, the Baltiimore Orioles picked up 1B Chris Davis and young starter Tommy Hunter.

-Shortstop and ex-Rookie of the Year Rafael Furcal will head to St. Louis to give them some speed at the top (just like Bourn is doing for the Braves).

Despite Pittsburgh not getting a big power hitter, they did get something else that they needed, and that was a big veteran presence in the young clubhouse. They got Ryan Ludwick and Derrek Lee.

Lee and Ludwick are nice pick ups for deeping their bench and defense. However I was saying the Pirates in order to go win a playoff spot/go deep in the playoffs this year, were in dire need of a power hitter like Beltran or Pence.

We see what happens but the Pirates if they stay healthy are no doubt arguably the best 'young' team in MLB right now.

They are MLB version of the OKC Thunder IMO.

True. It does help the Bucs got new ownership a few years back. Thus they are following the Rays model of buliding a playoff contender for smaller revenue teams in MLB with a strong minor league system. Granted they wont often be able to get big priced free agents.

With that said, the player development model first developed by Cleveland in the mid-90's (2 world series apperences)and later by the Marlins and Rays is what should make the Pirates a playoff contender for next few years.

Don't forget to add the Twins and Athletics when it comes to small-market success stories. The A's with their famous "Moneyball" concept, which will be depicted in the upcoming movie of the same name starring Brad Pitt starting this September. The Twins proved everybody wrong when Bud Selig wanted to contract them out of existence (apparently to make Selig's Brewers stronger in attendance).

Thus why I can't stand Selig. These 'conflict of interest' issues like contracting the Twins (which was so silly since Minneapolis-St Paul region is much bigger than Milwaukee population wise)are reasons Selig is really the "CEO" of Baseball IMO and not the 'Commish.'

If anything, the Twins issue is another example IMO of why Selig should just run the day-day 'business' operations of MLB. While the 'commissioner' already a meaningless job should be a separte post focusing with 'on the field' issues with preference given to a former player or Team GM/Executive. Someone like Joe Torre and for while before him Bob Watson should be 'commissioner' who were/are executives in charge of on the field issues.

Plus with Selig not getting any younger, a younger person who could be a strong 2nd in command of MLB or even replace Selig should be appointed.

Preference to the next "MLB Boss" could be given to a former MLB General Manager or Executive of a Club who has both media and legal expereince as well.

If it were up to me Selig would been gone a while ago, as I have a hard time forgiving him for having a big role in arguably the two worst events in MLB History as the MLB "Boss". The First of course, the 1994-'95 Work Stoppage and the recent Steriods era.:tdown:

Selig has been in power for almost 20 years only because he a 'yes man' and semi puppet for the other owners and I know he not leaving until he 'retires' or dies on the job which could still be a long while.

MLB has comeback from those two crisises that nearly destroyed the sport despite Selig's tenure as MLB Boss. That because pardon the phrase used in soccuer but MLB is also a 'beautiful sport' IMO as a great game.

Jimenez isn't going to be that big of a difference maker for Cleveland the way Lee was last year for Texas. Plus how Colorado didn't want the Yankees to do a thorough exam on him raises red flags.

Bedard to boston is interesting as it helps stabilize the rotation, but I dunno how he'd fare in Boston. Concidering King Felix is the only player worth giving up a boat load of prospects for and everyone else trying to milk the Yankees for more, I have no problems with them not making a trade. They are better off with what they have even if next year becomes a rebuilding year.

You realize Concourse that right now depending on matchup, the Yanks could lose in the 1st round of playoffs? While most of the media may make the "Sox" the favorites in AL i still fear Texas more come the post season.

I know Boston is still gonna win since they've won all but 1 of the games so far.

Other than CC and maybe Nova, there's no way the others will be able to keep the game in reach.

texas doesn't scare me much anymore without Lee. Yes, Yankees have beaten detroit in 2006, but still lost the ALDS.

Finally, what does that have to do about my comments about Jimenez to Cleveland or Bedard to Boston?

My comments is that the Indians (now with Jimenez)Tigers, White Sox and Twins from AL central 'survior' could 'upset' the Yankees in a playoff matchup.

Outside of CC the bombers starting picthers right now are terrible.

The Yankees will visit South Florida for two exhibition games to help usher in a new era at the Marlins' new ballpark next year, the Marlins announced Tuesday. Florida will host New York at the new ballpark in two exhibition games, April 1 at 1:10 p.m. ET and April 2 at 7:10 p.m.

The ballpark, currently 76 percent complete, according to a Marlins release, is expected to open in time for Opening Day 2012.

For the April 1 game, approximately 25,000 tickets will be available, with approximately 30,000 available for the April 2 game. All Marlins full season and partial plan holders for 2012 will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets to the exhibition games.

Angels right-hander Jared Weaver was suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount of money for throwing at Tigers catcher Alex Avila, Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday.

Weaver has decided to appeal the suspension, but if the suspension is upheld, he's only expected to miss one start.

In addition to Weaver's suspension, Angels manager Mike Scioscia has been suspended for one game for the intentional actions of Weaver after a warning had been issued to both clubs by home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt. Scioscia will serve his suspension during the Angels game tonight against the Twins.

The Angels enter the week trailing the defending American League Champions Rangers by only two games in the AL West.

Weaver was ejected from a game on Sunday at Detroit in which Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander was attempting to pitch the third no-hitter of his career -- and second of the season. Verlander lost the no-hitter in the eighth inning.

During the bottom of the seventh, Weaver threw a pitch up and in to Avila following a solo homer by Carlos Guillen that gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead on their way to a 3-2 victory.

Guillen stood and admired his second homer of the season as it arced toward the right-field seats. When he finally began his home-run trot, he flipped his bat and danced out of the batter's box, catching Weaver's attention. It was the second time in the game Weaver had taken exception to the way a Detroit batter seemingly admired a home run.

Home-plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt strode to the mound to warn Weaver and both dugouts after Guillen finally circled the bases. But Weaver threw the next pitch in the area of Avila's head and was immediately ejected from the game.

"Whether or not I didn't like something [Guillen] did, I'm not someone to try to hurt somebody," Weaver said on Sunday. "I tried to throw a fastball in, and it got away from me. I'm not trying to hurt anybody."

After the ejections, Weaver yelled towards the Detroit dugout as he angrily walked off the mound and headed to the dugout.

"I'm a competitor," Weaver said. "I've never tried to show anybody up. If that's the way they want to play, it is what it is. I didn't appreciate it very much."

In the third inning, Magglio Ordonez also watched a home run soar toward left for a 2-0 Tigers lead. In that case, however, there was some question whether it would land fair or foul.

Weaver stared down Ordonez as he embarked on his home-run trot and yapped at him as he circled the bases.

Weaver deserves to be fined and suspended. If you really want to hit a guy, you do it professionally. Throw it at his lower body, but you do NOT throw a ball on purpose at anybody's head

Good job buddy with those MLB headlines. A slight correction as the Marlins will be in the City of Miami and renamed the Miami Marlins. Sun Lite/Dolphins Stadium is actually on the North Miami/Ft Lauderdale border.

Also on the Weaver incident. He was acting like a punk:tdown:from clips i saw from that incident. He deserves the suspension.

PS Can the Pirates 'recover' and stay with the NL Central Brewers in contention?

When someone taunts you like that after hitting a home run off you I'm sure you would be pissed too. He should still be suspended for throwing at Avila's head, but that's something Carlos Guillen definitely should not have done. You don't have the right to taunt the pitcher like that -- ever -- especially if it's only your second of the year.

Carter gets good news after MRI.

Updated Aug 2, 2011 8:06 PM ET

Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter received good news Tuesday after the results of an MRI exam revealed his brain tumors are "80 percent better."

The news was relayed by Carter's daughter Kimmy Bloemers on a family website, according to the New York Post.

The New York Mets legend, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer in May, was told by his doctor at Duke Medical Center that there "is much less swelling."

"Doctor V said specifically that dad's tumors are 80% better!" Bloemers wrote on the family website, adding the tumors are "less dense" and "less angry," an encouraging sign, according to Carter's doctor.

"The size is a little smaller but the most important fact is that these tumors are starting to GO AWAY!" Bloemers wrote. She added the next phase would require the 57-year-old former ball player to undergo five days of chemotherapy in pill form.

Doctors also told the family Carter's second MRI exam in May, which was taken just 10 days after the growths were first discovered, revealed the tumors had actually doubled in size. The aggressive nature of the tumors at that stage made Tuesday's results that much more amazing, Bloemers wrote.

Carter, who had been managing at Florida's Palm Beach Atlantic College this year, hit .262 with 324 home runs and 1,225 RBIs in a 19-year career with the Mets, Montreal Expos, Giants and Dodgers.

He was a member of the Mets' 1986 World Series-winning team, was an 11-time All-Star, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003.
