metsfan 2 Posted May 6, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 6, 2008 I lived in a motel in Bethpage, NY for ~3 months back in the beginning of 2007 just for fun. In the time i spent there i used the LIRR station there a few times a week to visit the city, or to catch a train to see my family in PA. I noticed the station was somewhat poorly located and haphazardly designed. It blocks the most direct route for fire trucks at the local fire station going down stewart ave when a train is in station OR passing through, and when a train is slowing to stop another road, broadway, is also blocked with the typical warning bells & gates. I was thinking it would be wise for the LIRR to elevate this stretch of track due to the high number of fatalities it seems to produce each year vs other grade crossings on the route. - Andy
