Thirteen Years Ago

Recommended Posts

On March 1, 1998, the Sixth Avenue (:) and Eighth Avenue (C) switched northern terminals.

This broke the pattern that had existed since the IND opened to 207th Street on September 10, 1932 and to 205th Street on July 1, 1933, but it did allow the (C) to become full time except nights.

Until that day, Concourse service was the (C) and (D) and Saint Nicholas Avenue service was the (B) and (A) during rush hours.

Today, the C parallels the A from 168th Street to Euclid Avenue and, during rush hours, the B parallels the D from Bedford Park Boulevard to DeKalb Avenue.

Over thirteen years, I feel this has been a good service change. While Concourse riders who want Eighth Avenue need to change at 145th Street, Central Park West and Saint Nicholas Avenue service has improved with both the C and B now middays and evenings.
