This driver is SOL.. Hes going down! This is what happens when you give a criminal with a long rap sheet including manslaughter, grand larceny, etc..a job..

And thats exactly why he's with that company. If that were the MTA or NJT.....they would have laughed at him.

People associate Megabus w/the Chinatown buses because of Mega's reputation. Megabus rep has gone down hill big time because of their accidents and their rapid expansion. Any warm body with a CDL can go down to CUSA and get a job at Megabus.... that's FACT! One driver that got fired from Peter Pan for accidents and assaulting a passenger is now driving for Mega. Academy wouldn't even touch him....so that tells you what your $1 fare is getting you.

When DATTCO started doing subservice for Megabus w/the 4505s one of my friends bid onto the contract for the stability of a scheduled line run and the money. A month after they put the DDs out there,he got off of it. His exact quote "I'm not driving those f**king deathtraps!" This from someone with 15+ years driving motorcoachs all over the U.S.

I used to see them sitting on the Deegan all the time, while I could jump off,run local though the Bronx and make the PABT in no time. Let's see them take a TD925 under the "el" on Jerome Av! For some people time is money....that 45 mins that I save by detouring makes up for the slightly higher fare. The base fare from NYC to Boston on PP/GLI is $36 and Bolt is $30, most times you can get them cheaper. If you can't afford to pay that for 430 mile RT then quite frankly, maybe you shouldn't be traveling.

But to go back to this accident I have my own personal theory on what happened: The driver was nodding off at times, woke up as the truck was passing and panicked. It doesn't take much to flip a bus @ 75-80mph. And before anybody asks me how I know he's speeding, he left Mohegan Sun @ 345am and was in outside of Eastchester at 530am. Even at that time of the morning that's alot of mileage to cover in that amount of time.

Those overnight casino runs are rough on drivers, because you can't get any sleep. You may close your eyes but trying to sleep in one of those seats is not happening. Add to the fact that there is always someone pulling in or out of the bus parking area adds to the noise.....I remember falling asleep once just to have the dude from Harris Tours rev his engine full blast to build up air pressure!

I would hate to be a casino line run driver for the next couple of months because the DOT is gonna be all over them for logbooks and vehicle defects...it's not gonna be pretty but it necessary.

You work for a rival company so of course you'll talk trash about Megabus. You have a right to do so. However, whenever I used it, the B/O's were friendly and courteous, the buses were almost always on time, and the driver operated the bus in a safe manner.

And thats exactly why he's with that company. If that were the MTA or NJT.....they would have laughed at him.

What does his rap sheet have to do with him falling asleep behind the wheel? If he assaulted a passenger then it would be relevant.

Well he lied and said he was side swiped by a truck. So .....yea..His character is under scrutiny and you cant believe a word he says.

A rap sheet has a whole hell of alot to do with everything here. In case you been under a rock, a rap sheet is brought up in anything even with jobs that require you to present one. And companies like NJT, if you lie on your driving history, they check anyway and THEY will find out. Some shyt company like Megabus aka CUSA will not do that. Hell you can have 6 points all speeding and you will find yourself on a trip to DC.

It has nothing to do with him working for a rival company. Megabus is a another Chinatown Bus.

As expected this tragic accident has turned political. Sen. Schumer now wants tighter NTSB/US DOT on these so called "Cheap and Discount" Bus companies.

That didn't take long, but I'm not surprised. I don't think anything will come of it....Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods wield alot of power and influence. They aren't gonna do anything to stop the gravy train (or I should say, buses) from running. What Schumer should do is put pressure on NY and CT DOTs to do roadside inspections of these carriers. Logbooks need particular scrutiny....IMO,I think alot of these guys are riding dirty logbookwise and doing double bangers to the casinos.

Honestly, I don't think he lied....I think he woke up as the truck was passing him and panicked. But I have a feeling charges for vehicle homicide will be handed down by the end of the week and it won't be to the truck driver.

Forest Glen,

It has nothing to do with me working for Peter Pan. If I still worked for DATTCO, who is the partner in the Northeast, I would be saying the SAME EXACT THING!

You are just looking at a cheap ride from New York to Boston so it's not like you're unbiased in this either. The fares that Megabus charges DON'T cover the cost of running a bus company. One of our 2010 J models cost 450K, the TD925 has got to be pushing 600K. Do you think your $10-15 fare is covering that? And the pay....I'm sorry, I've worked very hard to get my CDL and keep it clean. I would not be driving a 81 passenger double decker coach though the Northeast for the peanuts they pay.

As a passenger I don't know how people a comfortable riding with them. If the breakdown....you are SOL. At least with PP we have a couple of garages in CT and MA so they can get to you quickly. And Greyhound and Bolt will stop to assist.....nobody stops for Mega and that my friend is CORRECT!

FG,Keep going with the lowest common demoniator.....hopefully it won't bite you in the ass.

Your first two responses hit the nail on the head IMO. As one who used to drive tractor trailers years ago an up to date logbook was a rule stamped in your head from day 1. Fudged, or bogus, entries were a serious offense back then(with the ICC) and I assumed they still were, today. I also agree with you that this driver is going to be hit with serious charges. I also believe the company is going to have lawsuits up the ying-yang because I believe they knowingly allowed the B/O to make the run when he was not physically capable of doing so safely. I believe you called it a double-banger. There are now reports of him drifting over lanes on the return trip. I'm surprised nobody on the road banged him in IF this was true. It doesn't look good for him or his employer right now.

incorrect

Can you cut that shit out? If you disagree enough with someone's opinion to the point that you feel the need to hit the "post reply" button, can you actually take the time to put your disagreement in a coherent sentence longer than one word? Stop with your one word "incorrect" replies to someone to took the time to type out their views with more than one word.

LOL I know you are right, but chances for anything is slim. It's just on the road you don't know if the person next to you is some crazy physco driver lol.

RC1, you don't know if the person sitting next to you on a train or walking down the street ahead of or behind you, is a nut case. You take a chance every time you get out of bed and leave your house. No need for paranoia, though. Most drivers, bus operators, engineers, pilots, value their lives as much as you value your own.

No need to get all noid about it.These things happen. One day something like this can happen on the franklin ave shuttle during a simple ride from Franklin ave to Park place.Remember you're likely to die in a one car accident than a charter bus ride with over 30 people.

If that case you or me might as well live under rock and spend the rest of our days never leaving home.

All you can do is hope for the best and live every day like normal.

As far as the 'debate' between 553/B-Z Guy and Forest Glen on whether Mega Bus is safe. Who you going to trust the advice more? Veteran Bus Drivers or a Causal Passenger who uses intra-city buses couple of times a year? Hmm let me think. Yes. The choice is easy.

I had an odd feeling the driver was black. The NTSB need to enforce stringent background checks on future bus drivers reguardless of race creed or color.

What is up with this man's head?

Agreed. Could not say it any better. I want a sane person who can drive a bus safely from point a-b. period.

Schumer likes to complain about everything. He loves attention.

Exactly one week ago, I took Megabus to Philly. In two months, I'll take it to Boston. Lesser companies envy Megabus since its efficient operation is cutting into their profits.

Again, Megabus and Bolt Bus =/= Chinatown bus

Lesser company......HAHHAHAHAHA! Thanks for the laugh, I needed it.

Peter Pan is not the lesser company in the game, far from it. We aren't the best but I know we are a step above Megabus. Megabus might be more efficient than Peter Pan because all they focus on is line run work. We do charters, shuttle and all kinda of other work on top of line run.

Riddle me this Batman....How many Million Mile safe drivers does Megabus have? We have OVER 50 drivers that have pulled that off, some with 2 and 3 million miles without an accident. You can't put a price on that kind of experience....oh wait, you did. Enjoy Megabus!
