DOB2RTO 29 Posted May 9, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 9, 2008 Drug tests last for 90 days. Mines that I took on February 26 for the T/O exam, will expire on the 25th of this month. I hope when I call back in the middle of this month, they have the medicals going for this exam. They did tell me to call back then, and they should have the notification from RTO for a new class, which is supposedly July. They will call you all for your medicals (which is the day you get hired). That is your next step after the LAB. The geriatric drivers who should have been left, are hanging on due to being broke all the years they drove. Most have child support issues. It is the males who usually stay beyond 25/55. Most female operators are out the door at their 25/55. I wish T/Os with 25/55 would get the hell out already.l

Jack 0 Posted May 22, 2008 Share #8 Posted May 22, 2008 For those who may find it interesting or helpful: I also received a letter yesterday indicating successful completion of the BOSS exam. My List # is 4418 and this is for exam #2801. It's curious, contrary to most, I've been in contact every month, consistently in order, by MaBSTOA regarding the outcome of each process. Hope this is helpful.

I don't contact anyone and I don't know of any list. What I mean is that there hasn't been anything out of place with my selection process. For example: Nov 20: Submitted application Jan 3: Received letter confirming $40 and application submitted Feb 4: Received letter confirming Random #4418 Mar 21: Received letter to appear for BOSS test on Apr 3 Apr 3: Take BOSS test May 16: Receive letter confirming satisfactory in BOSS test I have not yet taken a drug test but maybe that's for next month. Jack 0 Posted June 6, 2008 Share #11 Posted June 6, 2008 I hear people have done the drug test and then they received the letter of congrats. Yes, LadyBus I just spoke to a MaBSTOA B/O (while riding the bus to work) and she told me that those who already have their CDL license have preference in the list. She told me she had a very high number but since she had a CDL license, she was called very quickly throughout the process. It doesn't seem fair but then again I don't think MaBSTOA is under civil service employment.
Bee Flexible #823 0 Posted June 11, 2008 Share #12 Posted June 11, 2008 I am also on the MABSTOA Bus Operator List. My list number is 1610. I got called to take the BOSS Exam in February. I passed. A month later, I took the drug screening test. 3-4 weeks later, I took the full medical, fingerprinting and final processing. You thought I would be a shoe-in for the class, correct? WRONG! Here are the reasons: 1. I worked P/T for MTA Bus in the past-they needed to do a background check on that. 2. The day class would start ie April 28th, my drug screen test would expire. I was then informed that the next class would be in July. I called up today-the July class has been cancelled. Now I get told that the medical that I completed back in March will expire 90 days after it is taken. By the time I get called, it will expire. I also took 2 drug screening tests. Both have since expired. I am in dying need of a job. I've been wanting to be a Bus Operator for years now. I'm also waiting to hear from MTA Bus as well. I turned down other opportunities because this is what I want to do. But now I've been screwed over. The staff at 180 Livingston are constantly giving me the runaround and is wasting my time. Why can't they do the processing correctly? Is there anybody that I can write to and/orcomplain about this matter? This is utterly ridiculous! I've applied for other MTA jobs as well and it has been attrocious. They have to simplify it somehow. Can somebody please help me? I'd greatly appreciate it. Not just the fact I received no letter, when I should have. They did tell me, that we need to do a background check on you from MaBSTOA, that is why you were delayed. I know when they do things like this, you want to just go down there, demand that you get put into the class you suppose to be in, or rip their heads off if they give some lame excuse of why they can't. To be honest, they should have hired you, while doing the MTA Bus background check. If something bad pops up, well they could just fire you. If nothing pops up, well you are where you should be in the system.Sadly, there isn't too much you can do. You will just have to wait for the next class. In the meantime, find a charter company to work for, or just as I tell everyone else, get yourself to Yonkers, and apply at Liberty Lines. I hear they make more than we do (we are at 26.92hr, they are at 27.15hr, after 3 years). You won't get sick days with Liberty though. You have to have a spotless record also. Besides they will be absorbed soon enough into MTA.......
Bee Flexible #823 0 Posted June 12, 2008 Share #15 Posted June 12, 2008 Bee Lines is yet another problem. I applied for them 3 months ago to the day. I decided to call them up for a follow up. They informed me that they are not hiring full time drivers at this time but they are considering part timers-which may mean ParaTransit. Another problem that I have is that I have 1 accident on my license-which wasn't even my fault...someone ran a red light and collided into me. It happened 3 years ago to the day. Bee Lines is giving me a very hard time because of that, I don't know why-I have 0 points on my license-it's clean in that aspect. Nobody is perfect, but I guess you have to be in order to work for them. Simply obsurd.

Liberty Lines is the main dawg, and on their website it says they are looking for drivers. Did you fill out an application at Liberty Lines? The accident, depending on the state, can be no-fault. Just because the other person has a red light and you green, doesn't mean you have the right of way. You only have it, if they give it to you.......Defensive Driving Course will tell you this. MTA and Liberty will say same. But since you aren't a B/O yet, they might just let it go. Liberty is a type of company that does the, "do you know someone we know who works for us" type of company. I applied over and over in the past, and didn't get called until I mentioned an ex-union rep/longtime driver there (still a driver). I got called later that week. Had points by then, so that went bye-bye. Was going to be put into the Express division also...........Keep trying is all I can tell you, unless you know a driver there, who will let you use them as a reference........If you do, when you call back as to speak to Niel or Rick Ericcson, and say such and such told me to speak to you. They are the human resource dept heads.......
Bee Flexible #823 0 Posted June 16, 2008 Share #17 Posted June 16, 2008 Has anybody heard anything from 180 Livingston about the next Bus Operator class for MaBSTOA? Unfortunately, I do not know anyone personally working for Bee Lines. I will give it another try sometime this week but I do not expect any satisfying results. MAYBE I should have taken the NYCTA bus operator exam too. Dag. My understanding is that MaBSTOA was always under a union and has the same benefits as Civil Service. In fact, they pay more than TA. There's not much of a difference, yet I am not sure what the status would be if it's true about the merger with TA.

MaBSTOA employees can get hit with the Taylor Law. They are merged with TA, since Dec 2005. Anyone hired after Dec 2005 is in both systems, but if you pick into OA depot, you are OA, and if you pick into TA depot you are TA. But in the main CPUs you are still both. You can switch though during the General Picks (126st, Brooklyn, and MaBSTOA)......They pay is exactly the same between both divisions. The rules are the same. Just a few contractual things are different........What I don't know, but it ain't nothing major.......

DOB2RTO 29 Posted June 25, 2008 Share #25 Posted June 25, 2008 is mabstoa and nyct under absolute same contract? any one know? No, not absolute. We had a 6 month probation period in OA (actually that was on the application I filled out, before I was hired), now it is 1 year, like TA. The contract for OA and TA will never be absolutely the same, as one is civil service (TA), and the other is private, with civil service status (OA). Pensions are different, but the same for example........
