Tokkemon Posted March 19, 2011 Share #26 Posted March 19, 2011 Very true! Sixth Avenue in Manhattan will never be called Avenue of the Americas. What a silly idea that was by whomever.... 'Twas pushed by Mayor LaGuardia actually...

B35 via Church Posted March 19, 2011 Share #28 Posted March 19, 2011 although I'll miss sayin "23rd eli manning" when trains pull into the station @ times... lol... although I'm not big on renaming stations, I don't see anything wrong w/ 23rd st - Court Sq.... that's what it should've been called anyway IMO.... traildriver Posted March 20, 2011 Share #29 Posted March 20, 2011 So, it seems that the MTA is combining names of different stations on different lines if they have a free passageway connecting them? If so, why isn't the 8th avenue, 42nd street station renamed 'Times Square'? Or other examples...like 74th street Broadway and Roosevelt Avenue Jackson Heights, etc.? It makes more sense to name it after the latter.

So they should not have the same names either. I think it is political, in that the MTA wants the public to consider it one station, ever since they truncated the G line to that point.... It makes more sense to name it after the latter. But the business district that housed the movies, vaudeville between 8th ave and 7th ave was considered part of the square ( in later yrs). This is why they labeld it such, The Port Authority building wasn't there at the time the subway was built also. S/F, CEYA!
Guest lance25 Posted March 28, 2011 Share #38 Posted March 28, 2011 [removed]Its still gonna be there. Take Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av on the . To this day it still says Vernon-Jackson Avs There's a difference between changing the name from an avenue to a boulevard, as is the case with Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av, and a complete name change, which is what is happening with 23 St-Ely Av (now Court Sq-23 St). rr4567 Posted March 28, 2011 Share #39 Posted March 28, 2011 :sigh: I guess it may be official then: Broadway-Lafayette Street and Bleecker Street may become something like Bleecker-Broadway. I forgot to comment on this. DON'T GIVE THEM ANY IDEAS!
