So for those of who think the (C) crossing at Canal is a major impact of delays....here’s the answer....

The (A) and (E), especially the latter, are more frequent than the (C) throughout the day and evening. Mind you, I’m talking about weekday, not weekend. The main issue is the simple fact that the (C)’s 10 minute headways do not properly “mesh” with the (A) and (E)’s relatively shorter headways. The same is true at Hoyt. So therefore, generally, any event that express and local trains arrive at Hoyt or Canal at the same time, one has to cross first while the other follows it behind. That all depends if trains are running on time or not. That’s where the delays come from. Same with the 50th Street merge, where the (E) merges with/diverges from the (C).

Everyone should be aware that the (C) is the least frequent line in the system during rush hour, or at any given time of the day for that matter.

I checked the string line charts shortly after your previous post. All the trains were timely without hold-ups.

We’ll see if that holds up for normal weekend service on 8 Avenue next time…

I thought the chart you was referring to was during weekdays though.

I was on a full refurbished R160 on the (F)... well 99.9% refurbished. Car #9245 is missing the blue wrap on the right side. The other side has it and there is wallpaper and screens installed on-board. Does anyone know if the R160s are still receiving the newer scheme? I’ve been seeing a lot more on the (F) lately; Did those come from the (N)/(Q)/(W) lines?

Not at this time. There are only 20 selected 5-car sets with this scheme. What came from the (N)(Q) and (W) lines are those cars that was then turned into the scheme mentioned:

8773-8777, 8838-8842, 9108-12, 9123-42, 9153-62. 9168-72, 9178-82, 9188-92, 9203-7, 9218-22

Ah okay. Is their a list of every R160 car that has been refurbished (4 and 5-car sets)?

Sure is: with the units mentioned above, 9238-9247, 9558-9567, 9688-9692, 9733-9737 as well has the features (5-car sets)

Only 4-car sets with the feature is 8325-8328, 8337-8340, except the inside has no decoration.

idk if this is new but I just seen a r179 (J) say “ Jamaica Skip-Stop

Broadway Local “ on the side panels

The Broadway local part is new because I remember them saying “Jamaica Center” and “Jamaica Skip Stop” or “Jamaica Local”

I wonder how things would’ve been had the Hillside subway been extended to Springfield Blvd from Jamaica?

I saw a Facebook post saying it’a the last week for the R42’s. I’m a bit skeptical cause it’s the first I’m hearing about this. Can anyone shed some light?

TBH I would take it with a grain of salt. I HIGHLY Doubt it. With all the R179's problems, and the R211's due next year, we're still technically on a shortage. They're trying to hold onto to the 32's and 42's as long as possible.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, looks like they're gonna kill off some bad R32's and all the R42's which makes sense with the R32's.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, cause we've been on a shortage for the better part of a decade and a half, cause of the scrap happy days. Those 42s and 32s would've been gone in 2009, if it wasn't for those 44s going, and for us being short.

From what I heard, nothing will actually be scrapped until the R211s begin to replace cars. Until then, they will mothball the 42s and some 32s (think of the (A) having what, 10 sets of R179s now, they probably can sideline a few 10-car trains indefinitely)

I feel like this would be the best course of action. No rush to scrap them anyways so why not hold off until we find an issue with the 179’s.
