Interesting find today working the Charlie. It looks like they’ve been updating the R179’s. The set I had today had the same “ding” that the Lirr M7’s have when you press the PA button. I also noticed the pause between “the next stop is” announcements and transfers has been reduced. It’s still not as fluid as the R143/160, but an improvement nonetheless.

They have more down time, and the cars are still under warranty so They’re getting around to the sets. Unfortunately, The R179’s will Never have the R160/R143 AAS program because it’s not compatible with the software it came equipped with. Something to note, The doors close at the same speed as the R160’s now however, The next update SHOULD* be the delayed response after hitting the Door Warning button. *fingers crossed*

Did they fix "The Next Stop Is" glitch on the rest of the programs other then the (A) / (C)?

Also, moving this from the R-42 Thread,

Do you think the (B)(W) and (Z) will return soon, if at all when this is over?

Not for a good 6-8 months, assuming people have fears of riding mass transit and decide to take other means (cars). Less ridership = the (B)(W)(Z) being temporarily axed.

I'm inclined to agree with you with your time frame.  I can foresee a return of the (B) but the (W) is a neutered (N) in my way of thinking and the (Z) is just a (J) with different signage to me. The latter two wouldn't be needed any time soon. Just my thoughts.  Carry on.

With the (W) suspended, is the (N) running local in Manhattan at all times?

Yes it is.

Oddly enough, my (N) ran express from 34th to Canal this morning. It came in on the southbound express track and there was another (N) on the northbound express. And we passed another express (N) between 14th and Canal. I didn't find anything on the MTA website or get any transit alert emails about why.

looks like the (N) is running express in Manhattan today at least according to the website. If you go on the website and click on service status for the (N), the local stop disclaimer that states the (N) runs local in Manhattan while the (W) is suspended is no longer there. Also if you click on the local stops at 28 St, 23rd St, 8 St-NYU, and Prince St, only arrival information for the (R) is available. Definitely an odd change, leaving Broadway Local on a 12-minute headway (assuming the (R) is coming on-time)

S900 supplement increased service on the (D)(L)(6) and (7) lines. I didn’t see anything about the (N) ... I will double check.

Yep, the northbound (N) train that I’m on right now is running express and we passed another (N) at 14th and another at 34th on the southbound express. So it couldn’t have been an unexpected delay sending the (N) express this morning (otherwise the (R) would have also been express). Though I did see my (N) swing over after leaving 34th, so it’s still stopping at 49th. And the website still shows arrival times at 28, 23, 8 and Prince only for the (R)

I'd say its high time that we get rid of Skip Stop as its not a viable alternative to the (E) whatsoever.

@MHV9218 682a4711_orig.jpgThis is an image of the passageway to 175th Street. The sign looks like it is relatively recent. Does this look like it is from the 1990s to you?

Older! Looks like late-70s early-80s. Rare sign for sure. It's Akzidenz, for one (the t is nearly as tall as the U), and the 'o' looks a little wonky + the letters are really thick. Means it was probably hand-stenciled. That's what the earliest enamel white-on-black signs looked like. 86th on the B/C had one, but I'm not sure it survived the renovation.

I received the "NYC Transit COVID-19 Survey" in my email.

Quote

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Cuomo announced the "New York State on PAUSE" executive order in mid-March. Since then, most New Yorkers have stayed home and only essential workers are using transit.

Now, as we plan for New Yorkers to return to the transit system, we’d like to hear from you. If you have used transit over the last few months, we would like to know what you think of the system and our efforts to keep you safe. Even if you have not used transit lately, we would like to hear about your concerns and if you have suggestions to help make traveling safer for you and everyone else in the future.

And, perhaps most importantly, we would like to know and understand your thoughts about returning to the transit system. The more we know about how you are feeling and what you are thinking about, the more responsive we can be to your concerns.

To thank you for your time, respondents who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing to win one of ten 30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCards.

Yes?....

1) I want one people to take a look at the questions and responses, and actually discuss it.

2) If I made a separate thread for it, I would have been asked "Why did you make a whole thread for it? Why didn't you put this in the Subway random thoughts thread"......

No it's not that, it took up half of the thread. I would've rather just posted a link to the survey questions/answers, but that's just me. Sorry if I came off rude 😁.
