MHV9218 Posted August 13, 2015 Share #15701 Posted August 13, 2015 Yeah, prolly not gonna happen. 6701 got skipped over as well, even sent to GA and then pulled back to MV before paint hit. 6490 and 7596 didn't make it all that long into the second round of reprints either.
IAlam Posted August 13, 2015 Share #15702 Posted August 13, 2015 Going back to what I said a while ago an Express route to the East Bronx from downtown is very possible considering that plenty of queens express bus route exceed 1 hour in travel time and this is also a downtown route meaning its going further. My BXM5 idea saves people time from not having to transfer to the BXM18 which is already slow, and transferring adds to a person's trip than my proposed route. So here are some of my other ideas: BXM5 AM: Okay some notes: X51 and X52 are the same in Queens one servies Midtown the other Downtown X51 Follows a route similar to it old route however its extended to Bayside I feel the original reason it got was because it did serve enough neighborhoods, it was too short which meant it wasn't reaching all potential customers.) X53 Okay I know near Douglaston the roads are very tight, but the X17, X21, and X22/X22A also travel on some very narrow roads with drivers speeding through them, so it's not impossible. X53 Where the bus turns around that area would need to be readjusted to handle buses making U turns. X53 Not all buses have to start there, maybe like two in the morning and two in the afternoon the rest could coming back. The rest can start and end at Northern blvd.
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted August 13, 2015 Share #15703 Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) Going back to what I said a while ago an Express route to the East Bronx from downtown is very possible considering that plenty of queens express bus route exceed 1 hour in travel time and this is also a downtown route meaning its going further. My BXM5 idea saves people time from not having to transfer to the BXM18 which is already slow, and transferring adds to a person's trip than my proposed route. The BxM18 is not slow. I use it daily and it's just fine. The BxM18 is used primarily by Riverdalians. Not many transfers. Quite frankly most of the people are folks from Midtown that use it so the Downtown portion doesn't have that much ridership when you consider that it is marketed as the Downtown bus. You get some transfers heading Downtown from people that simply don't want to take the subway, but nothing major. Same deal going Northbound. Okay some notes: X51 and X52 are the same in Queens one servies Midtown the other Downtown X51 Follows a route similar to it old route however its extended to Bayside I feel the original reason it got was because it did serve enough neighborhoods, it was too short which meant it wasn't reaching all potential customers.) X53 Okay I know near Douglaston the roads are very tight, but the X17, X21, and X22/X22A also travel on some very narrow roads with drivers speeding through them, so it's not impossible. X53 Where the bus turns around that area would need to be readjusted to handle buses making U turns. X53 Not all buses have to start there, maybe like two in the morning and two in the afternoon the rest could coming back. The rest can start and end at Northern blvd. I don't think enough people from Throggs Neck woild ride your BxM15. Your BxM5 should be consolidated with the BxM15, so that it serves a portion of Throggs Neck. The BxM5 should not stop in Whitestone, let a QM2/20 variant do that. The QM2/20 can handpe bayside alone, it doesnt need help. As a revival of an express line to Downtown from Auburndale, maybe there can be ridership. The X53 though, I don't think would get a decent amount of ridership though. Now, going back to a QM2/20 downtowm variant, you could do this. It can start at Bell Blvd and 212 St, down Bell to 23 Avenue, and then follow the QM20 route until Willets Point Blvd/ Utopia Pkwy. It can then follow the QM2 weekend routing (the Whitestone Expressway section north of Linden doesnt need a Downtown bus at all). This downtown bus serves most of the residential areas the QM2 and QM20 serve, including ridership generators. I believe we should continue this in the Queens Bus Proposals Thread, because this is just the random thoughts thread. LegoBrickBreaker101 Posted August 14, 2015 Share #15710 Posted August 14, 2015 The B44 Select now has the same feature as the M15/86 SBS, also I noticed that the back doesn't say (+Select) no more, it's just B44 The back still has the +Select, saw it today.

JubaionBx12+SBS Posted August 14, 2015 Share #15713 Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) So I can assume the Bx12 will be running the updated program soon as well. I was on it yesterday evening and did not see any buses using it. In other news I saw a crack on the front door of 5324 and it looked as if someone threw something at it. Couldn't get a picture but it looked weird to see a front door with messed up glass. Given the SBS videos that have been posted I leave you with one a fellow YouTuber (Kingsbridgeviewer382) has posted of the Bx12. No new programs here but there is some bunching and maybe some new ridership (who knows). Apparently the front door of these buses is the new hangout spot. trainfan22 Posted August 14, 2015 Share #15715 Posted August 14, 2015 Yesterday 5096 broke down at that right turn on Glenwood in Cararsie, forced all New Lots/SC bound buses to use Rockaway Parkway.. reminded me of here when a T/O said that when the R110A was running it broke down in the worst possible place
MHV9218 Posted August 14, 2015 Share #15716 Posted August 14, 2015 I still remember a single tour bus dying on 8th St. between 5th and University around 2002 that FUBAR'd all 5th Ave. buses for and entire afternoon and evening. Back then it was nothing but RTSes since the only Vs would take Park, and there was a particular collection of GMCs lined up right behind the bus that made the then and then got trapped there. Took hours to clear.
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted August 14, 2015 Share #15717 Posted August 14, 2015 8005 is on the X68. I was pissed when I saw it at 42 and Madison, thinking it was a Q32 loan, and given how close I was to it, but didn't make it. I was thinking to go to Jamaica and see if I could potentially catch it, but by the time I got to Grand central, the bus was already at 57 street, and LIRR fare is a rip off. Rather decided to not to.

Seems to be happening too much lately It's the summer. Buses are prone have problems. Express bus runs I believe are mandated to have any bus run, even if there's a shortage. Still remember the multiple times Hybrids have been on the QM15/QM16/QM17, and the RTS on the X68. BM5 via Woodhaven Posted August 15, 2015 Share #15724 Posted August 15, 2015 (edited) I'm baffled that QV is having trouble making service on the express routes... they only run during rush hour AND they have a new fleet of MCIs. Mechnical problems or any other problems strike at any time, and to any bus, new or old. I'm kinda surprised that JFK has not had any Hybrids this summer yet. They've had Spring Creek's old MCI's for loan, but not Hybrids. I laughed when I saw a hybrid on the QM15, on a Saturday, about 2 years ago. You only need like 6 buses at most to run the bus line for the whole day (it's probably less, but I'm going by the highest run number I've seen). I one time saw a C40LF at CP signed up in the depot as the QM4. Well it's different when it's inside the depot, it may just be a codebreak. I've never seen any transit buses on any CP routes. Same goes for LGA. Unlike the previous time where an Orion V was on the X22 since they had no other buses, this time they borrowed a Castleton Unit (2581). Maybe the run was interlined with the Q43. Express Bus Runs/Local Bus Interlines in depots that have rush hour only route have the drivers only operate during the rush hour periods. In other words, in the AM, it runs, and then in the PM, it pulls off to whatever route again. They will not have it go back to the depot, and then do a local bus route afterwards. The time between the AM pull-in and PM pull-out is more than enough to have a bus available to use. Those buses don't even pull into QV for the most part, so it could've been a local bus interline. Don't forget the possibility the regular OP might have not been there, and they had no other replacement, so they possibly sent a bus out to Midtown from whatever ol' route/overtime. I remember that happening before on the QM15. The regular guy was not there, so they took a guy from the Q10 and sent it to do two QM15 round trips. Via Garibaldi 8 Posted August 15, 2015 Share #15725 Posted August 15, 2015 Are they allowing ops to take transit buses out on express runs if necessary now? Seems to be happening too much lately I agree. QV has an entire new fleet of express buses that are barely 2 years old and only run during the rush, so summer or not, it makes no sense. I suspect that perhaps the B/O had to do runs on a local route afterwards and perhaps didn't have time to change. Traffic has been HORRIBLE overall of late.
