BUS - Random Thoughts Thread

The MTA will do any this they can to make a few extra dollars even at the discomfort of city residents think of the ppl who live outside of NYC when they hear of "City Ticket" they must have though it was unfair

The City Ticket was only created to fill up the trains more on weekends and generate revenue, but the (MTA) would much rather target areas where the fares are already high or affluent areas.  For example, they continue to market heavily to Riverdale, but are extremely stingy to neighborhoods in the Bronx such as Melrose, which is a poor area and has piss poor service.  One train every two hours in some cases.  Meanwhile Riverdale has train service every 30 minutes during off-peak most of the time.  Neither neighborhood has a subway in the neighborhood so it clearly comes down to economics.

Maybe not subway price but express price would be nice and make more sense

If metro north or Lirr has stops within nyc I think nyc residents should be able to pay the subway price of $2.75 or use there unlimited, in queens Lirr wants $8.50 for off peak.

That pretty much prove my point cause the MTA will try to do anything to make extra money since the city ticket is cheaper residents which choose a city ticket and I'm pretty sure the railroads aren't funded by the city but the state and another thing I notice is the railroads segregate New Yorkers from people who live outside the city over there it their only option is some cases and the price is worth the distance they travel but her in the city I should not be paying 10.50 to go from woodside to flushing which is 1 stop. Idk about the MNR but I do know that the LIRR prices are way higher than they should be in queens and Brooklyn and most people because of that just use the subway and bus

Don't be ridiculous.  It's a commuter railroad not a subway.

Metro-North and the LIRR are COMMUTER RAILROADS, NOT SUBWAYS, with more amenities and quicker commutes so the fare should be higher.  I gladly pay $8.75 for a peak ticket from Riverdale to Grand Central + 2.75 for the Hudson Rail Link shuttle bus.  The cliente are classier overall, trains are relatively clean and it's civilized. No homeless people either...

I hear people get on the N20 on the nice bus system & tell the driver they have no money & the passenger takes a seat so basically a free ride? My question is does that I don't have any money can I get a ride happen on metro north or the Lirr? Does the conductor say sure take a seat like the bus driver does

lol... No they either give you the option of getting off at the next stop so as not to embarass you, or they call the police and let them escort you off at a stop further down the line.  I saw a young teenage type on Metro-North with no ticket when I got on in Riverdale.  When the conductor saw him and he had no ticket she kicked him off at University Heights and I'm sure she warned him that she would call the police next time because he got off but the smile that he had on his face was gone... lol The (MTA) needs it money and they are especially not tolerant of fare beating on the express bus, LIRR or Metro-North, nor are the passengers.  I don't want those people riding, and I see it, I report it.

For the case of fare beating I always have my ticket but the amount of times they forget to collect a ticket from me is absurd the only time they even collect a ticket form me is is a get on at a terminal stop all the other times they go right past me before I have a chance to give them my ticket

That reminds me, some weeks ago, I executed your commuting style. Since I had a long trip home from Riverdale, I took the BxM2 the entire trip which the B/O went all the way down 2nd Avenue and turned on 34th and the I took the LIRR to Jamaica and took the (J) home. Edited by S78 via Hylan

That's interesting... I've never went that route before... Must've been just you on the BxM2... We've done 5th all the way down to 34th but never 2nd.

I would have transferred To another express bus to save money but whatever pleases you is fine

Agreed... Whenever I tutor I HATE spending money on Metro-North... Eats into my profits.  If I make $40 - 50 in cash for a session, I don't want to spend money on a friggin' City Ticket.  Now if I have a Metro-North pass I could care less, but I prefer using my express bus pass. My rates are going up this year and I still don't want that money going back into Metro-North expenses. lol

Wait I know this is a bit random but speaking about express buses why aren't the MTA buying MCI's anymore?

Who said that? They still buy MCI's it's just that Prevost won the latest big order.

Only times you can get a free ride on MTA commuter railroads is if you ride a inbound train in the Morning on St Patrick Day as they so crowded to the point that C/R's can't walk though the train to collect tickets....

Or if the Subway is FUBAR'd or a major weekend G.O where they cross honor on the LIRR, when they cross honor they even bother checking tickets in the affected portion of the route....

So this LGA loaning thing is still going on. I should go check if the Q38 has any....but I'm too damn far from it right now.

LGA loaned 3579 (Q66), 3598 (Q66), 3599 (Q66), 3604 (Q25/Q34), 4502 (Q66), and 4511 (Q53) today. If an RTS ever heads over, I'm finished.

Has LGA ever borrowed buses from Casey Stengel or Jamaica? I know some buses went from LGA to Jamaica because I saw the LaGuardia depot sticker underneath the Jamaica one

MTA bus routes can't borrow from NYCT bus depots (like a rush hour tripper), but they can transfer buses with each other. Jamaica sent some RTS buses over to LGA a few times this year, maybe more.
