FamousNYLover Posted April 16, 2011 Share #52 Posted April 16, 2011 the 305 in its form was useless most ppl visit the park from a distance therefore 305 should of been a regional line Liberty State Park website they still did not updated their website. As in result, when I went there on October 29th, 2010 with Japanese female friend (tourist), there were couple waited for bus that never comes!! They had printed out page of Liberty State Park direction. Even there was map of shuttle bus route at HBLR Station.

SouthernRailway Posted April 17, 2011 Share #57 Posted April 17, 2011 I'd build the Hudson River rail tunnels- the Northeast Corridor is at capacity almost and those are a "must have" project.
theaveragejoe Posted April 17, 2011 Share #58 Posted April 17, 2011 Ok, this is my view and opinions based on being a former driver at the garage. One: NO MORE CASH FARES ON MONEY LINE BUSES! I can't say that enough. Get a damn fare box on the money lines before a driver gets killed or seriously injured. I thank God that I never had a incident where I thought my life might be at risk because I'm doing a money line, especially at nighttime. You don't know who gets on your bus. There are lines, like the 320, that drivers bring in between $1,500 to $3,000 on a straight morning shift run, and that's all due to not being in time to get a round trip ticket at the Park & Ride as well as tourists at Harmon Meadow. It'll take one person to cause a incident of great significant before NJT does anything. So, NJT needs to do it NOW before someone does get killed. Farebox, Tickets, or Passes. Otherwise, sorry Charlie. I'm 400 miles away now yet I still hear what's going on with my friends back at NJT and the last thing I need to hear is someone getting killed because some dude was robbing him for all the money he had in his pocket and change carrier. . NJT should do what GO transit does, at the end of each trip, the driver goes into the ticket agent and drops off the cash. So that way the driver is only carring small amounts of cash. theaveragejoe Posted April 17, 2011 Share #59 Posted April 17, 2011 driver sheilds and cameras should also be put on each bus.
D.J. Posted April 17, 2011 Share #60 Posted April 17, 2011 A trip within the same county: $1.50 Express routes going to NYC or Philadelphia: $4.00 initial fare plus $2 for every county boundary crossed. Intra-NJ routes: $1.50 plus $1 for every county boundary crossed. Do you have ANY idea how many counties theses routes cross? the express route theory is a tad on the extreme side don'tcha think? And having a zone fare fore EVERY county is extreme too... the 409 would cost about 24 dollars to ride the full length (currently it only costs 9) The 452 which only costs 1.50 to ride would cost 3.50 full length.... However a route like the 410 which only has one ending location and thats bridgeton with no not bus terminal en route with the exception of walter rand. As I said, reduce the number of bus routes handling money to those with over a $10 fare. Most of these routes will use PABT, where NJT can collect the cash at the end of each roundtrip. Those that don't service PABT, GWB, AC, or WRTC (are there any with more than $10 fare???) will be the only one still handling a shift's worth of money, meaning there are less drivers that can be targeted. For routes which serve WRTC but don't terminate there, an NJT employee can take the cash from the driver when the bus stops. It shouldn't take long (except on the late night trips when WRTC is closed, but late night drivers should carry less cash and not take anything over a $10 unless a 20 the only thing the customer has)

Amtrak7 Posted April 18, 2011 Share #65 Posted April 18, 2011 It could work but the most logical idea is to install fareboxes on the mcis. Well that'll be necessary for my plan, or else how can you collect fares <$10? Are there any fareboxes that give change in use around the world? That would be nice, and safer too. 553 Bridgeton Posted April 18, 2011 Share #66 Posted April 18, 2011 the fareboxes dont give change but it would be simply saying full service routes become exact fare.
Amtrak7 Posted April 18, 2011 Share #67 Posted April 18, 2011 the fareboxes dont give change but it would be simply saying full service routes become exact fare. If I was an NJT rider but not a commuter, I would be pissed off at hearing that. NJT's fare rules are SO complex, it's impossible for me to determine a fare without using their online trip planner. 553 Bridgeton Posted April 18, 2011 Share #68 Posted April 18, 2011 actually if you ask the driver he will tell you because there are exact fare route currently. and if your an average rider and buy a ticket to a zone the price is located on the ticket and if you take the reciept the price is on that also. And if the average rider was a heavy bus traveler and uses mass transportation during the month, they should buy a monthly pass. I'll give you a perfect example: People that have Zone 18 monthly passes to get from NY to Toms River can use that same pass to get to Atlantic City, or to Cape May (If it's a 319 to Cape May: They would pay the override since you're traveling 3 additional zones - Zone 18 to Zone 36 + 3 Zone Override charge). Not to mention, no NJT driver is gonna take money and give it to the ticket lady when they get to their designated ending point at each time when they're running late to do whatever's out there. Also, that also carries a risk of someone with a weapon robbing them. Even as everyone leaves the bus, a person can wait at the back of the bus, stab the driver, and steal the money that is on their person. Just put fare boxes and that'll be the end of it. People dont like it? Too bad. NJT is the ONLY BUS COMPANY IN AMERICA THAT TAKES AND GIVES CHANGE! THATS UNSAFE! It will happen. Someone will get killed or seriously hurt because of this. The same people the moan and groan about this are the same ones that don't care about the safety of the people that drives these 15 to 18 ton vehicles in and out of bad weather, tight areas, and congestive places. And I don't mean the people in this chat. I mean the people that get on the bus and get off, complaining about the service. I always say that if they can do better, then let them do it. But until they can, shut up, do what NJT tells you to do to use the transportation that is available to them, and that's it.

Im talking about the average rider that use the bus without a monthly i should have been more clear. Their is alot of ppl that ride on a daily that pay the fare that dont use a monthly. Commuters most of them all have their monthly. A farebox wouldnt affect them. Get the fareboxes in!

553 Bridgeton Posted April 18, 2011 Share #73 Posted April 18, 2011 Yeah if you dont have a monthly pass njt becomes another high cable bill lol. But if you travel 1 or 2 zones then its not bad plus a xfer if needed. Hell if your traveling 11 zones daily then its no question you need a monthly. Yeah, I shake my head with the passengers that get on with tickets. Unless their job provides them with the tickets and employees dont have to pay for it, man, what a waste if they're traveling to and from with tickets on a daily basis. Get the pass instead. For 18 zone passengers to and from NY - Toms River $19.50 for a one way ticket. So, that's (Unless there's a RT Discount, which I don't remember exactly) $39 round trip a day. Times that by 28 days = $1,092 a month. Ten Trip Tickets are $166 bucks, times 4 weeks: $664 Monthly pass: $455. Savings: $209 for 10 Trip, $637 for 1-way ticket riders. Do the math.
