Trainspotter 0 Posted May 16, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 16, 2008 Live tracks from hot acts at your stop BY STEPHANIE GASKELL DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER May 16th 2008 Lombard for News 'Tin Pan,' an old-style New Orleans jazz and blues band, is one of 23 winners in the Music Underground New York contest. It's underground and noisy - but where else can a struggling artist reach millions of people a day? The MTA announced the annual winners of its Music Underground New York contest Thursday - 23 acts that get special permits to perform in the subway. "If you're an artist, advertising is everything," said Gibran Soul, a "ghetto folk singer" who moved here from Toledo, Ohio, a year ago to find stardom in the Big Apple. "You never know who's riding the subway." Straphangers stopped at Grand Central Terminal Thursday to hear Soul and other performers - including New Orleans-style jazz band Tin Pan and Latin fusion band Movimiento - take the "stage." "It makes you feel happy," said Cynthia Young, a 44-year-old student from the Bronx.
