Kriston Lewis Posted May 10, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 10, 2011 All the signage at Nostrand Avenue has been replaced with white on black subway signs. The eastbound staircase also mentions destinations of JFK and Jamaica Center in addition to Points East.

Amtrak7 Posted May 10, 2011 Share #4 Posted May 10, 2011 I don't like it, especially if the platform signs were also replaced. At least maintain that black on white and blue strip!

Nexis4Jersey Posted May 10, 2011 Share #6 Posted May 10, 2011 The Viaduct needs to be replaced along with Nostrand Av Station. Septa did the Market-Frankfort line , LIRR can do the Atlantic Branch.

It still looks like a 3rd world Viaduct needs to be completely replaced...
Joel Up Front Posted May 10, 2011 Share #9 Posted May 10, 2011 For the record, that "first world" crap only used to refer to the United States and its allies. Second world was communist countries, third was applied to countries that were neutral or non-allied, and first was the U.S. and its allies. When I rode that viaduct on the LIRR in March, it looked brand new.
Joe Posted May 10, 2011 Share #10 Posted May 10, 2011 The viaduct that the Nostrand Ave station is on is still the old structure; it has not been replaced. As far as the signage, it's interesting to note that the signs mention "Jamaica Ctr".

lilbluefoxie Posted May 10, 2011 Share #12 Posted May 10, 2011 no amount of new signs can fix up that station and the surrounding area
Amtrak7 Posted May 10, 2011 Share #13 Posted May 10, 2011 There is one part left to the viaduct project, which includes a rehab of the Nostrand station. Planning is almost done for that phase, construction will start by the end of they year. According to SubChat, the MTA's trying to save money by using NYCT shops to make signs. Not the whole branch. Atlantic Terminal is brand new and ENY also still looks good. Maybe a little paint job on ENY, but that's it.

Vistausss Posted May 11, 2011 Share #17 Posted May 11, 2011 Indeed. Plus, the area? Seriously? We're talking about LIRR here. What can LIRR do to improve a station area? That's the local governments job.

ENY kinda looks ominous. However, there's no point in spending money to rehab the station since there's nothing really around there.

East New York station is one of the scariest LIRR stations in the system, scarier than Wyandanch. Its dark, lit badly, and smack dab in one of the roughest parts of Brooklyn.
