TrainFanatic Posted May 10, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 10, 2011 I once saw a video of a guy who was on the roadbed. There were a few police officers on the platform just trying to negotiate with the guy. They weren't even hesitating to go on the roadbed. I don't think they're suppose to put themselves in that kind of danger.

The only cops who can go on the roadbed while power is still on are cops assigned to the vandal squad.

S/A Vee Posted May 11, 2011 Share #5 Posted May 11, 2011 It will never happen. Too risky. Even though they have cops take the track safety class.
R42 M Train Posted May 11, 2011 Share #6 Posted May 11, 2011 So if a terrorist ran into a tunnel with a bomb, an NYPD cop who chases him into the tunnel is violating rules?
INDman Posted May 11, 2011 Share #7 Posted May 11, 2011 So if a terrorist ran into a tunnel with a bomb, an NYPD cop who chases him into the tunnel is violating rules? Yes, and knwoing the way the NYPD works they would try to hang the cop. There not trained to go in the hole, yea that are track qualified but that doesn't mean they know what there doing. This is why they have MoW workers or construction flagmen escort them.
TrainFanatic Posted May 11, 2011 Share #8 Posted May 11, 2011 So if a terrorist ran into a tunnel with a bomb, an NYPD cop who chases him into the tunnel is violating rules? Not sure about that but if I were a police officer and such a scenario took place - I'm going after that terrorist. I couldn't let such an ordeal lay on my chest. That's if the bomb has done its "job" knowing that I could've done something.

In the real word of life and death, a NYC officer is trained to call the bomb into central command and secure the area and get the civlians away from the bomb. There is no reason to go near it if you are not bomb squad, theres nothing you can do to diffuse it. Theres nothing to be on your chest for not trying to either unless youd rather be the hero who jumped on the grenade.
TrainFanatic Posted May 11, 2011 Share #10 Posted May 11, 2011 ^ If the bomb has already been activated I'm getting the heck out of there. I was saying it as if the bomb has not yet been activated.
