Manhattan

M2-Yes

M7-Yes

M14D-yes

M15-Of Course to one of America's busiest local bus lines..

M23-Yes

M42-Yes

M60-Yes.

M79-If any further cuts are needed then probably 'no.' I would use normal 40-foot size buses overnights for this & the "M23."

M86-Of course. It could argued headways should be every 20-30 minutes instead of current 40-minute owl period.

M96-Yes.

M101-Yes

M102-No. I think this line should have had overnight service cut. Having the (3)train and the M7 and this route run 24/7 along Lenox is too much service overnights.

M103-Yes

M104-Yes.

Nassau

N4-On the fence. If any further cuts are needed, then owl service on the N4 needs to go..

N6-No doubt yes.

Queens

Q1-to Jamaica via Queens Village LIRR-Yes..

Q2-Yes

Q3-Yes

Q4-Yes.

Q5-to Rosedale LIRR-Yes. I would actually extend to Green Acres 24/7.

Q6-Yes.

Q10-Of Course to one of NYC's busiest bus routes.

Q11-as far south as Pitkin-I would do a radical idea and run the (Q53) as a local overnights between Rockaway Park and Woodhaven/QB (E) station instead.

Q12-Yes. I would consider extending it to Great Neck LIRR station overnights when the N20/21 are not running..

Q17-Yes

Q24-Yes.

Q25-Yes.

Q27-to Springfield/Horace Harding. Yes.It could argued the Q27 should have 30-minute headways overnights.

Q28-Yes.

Q33-yes. This line should have 30-minute headways overnights as well.

Q35-Yes

Q36-Yes.

Q39-Yes. Only 24/7 route in sections of Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village and Ridgewood.

Q40

Q43-Yes.

Q44-Of Course Yes.

Q46-Yes. Maybe the headways here owl time should be 30-40 minutes instead.

Q54-Yes.

Q55-Yes.

Q56-Really No. If a few (J) lines stations along Jamaica Ave could become ADA i.e 121, Woodhaven and Forest Parkway the need for overnight (Q56) is no longer needed.

Q58-Yes

Q59-Yes. I was suprised that this line did not have 24/7 service until 2-3 years ago. No doubt the population boom in Bushwick/Williamsburg played a huge role.

Q60-Yes.

Q65-Not sure since the Q25 is nearby..

Q66-Yes

Q83-to Queens Village LIRR-Yes.

Q85-to Rosedale-Yes

Q100-Yes

Q101-Yes

Q110-Why? The "N6" is nearby. I would consider extending the N6 overnights only to the Jamaica Center complex for access to the (E) and (J). There also 24/7 bus service on nearby Archer and Hillside Ave as well.

Q111=Yes.

Q113-Yes. It amazing that this line only added owl service a few years back. This is the only 24/7 bus line in Far Rockaway area.

SI to be commented on later.

I would not send the (Q5) to Green Acres 24/7. Green Acres is not Kings Plaza. There is no demand for it. Is there a huge demand for the (Q12) to go Great Neck? You about those NIMBY's right? Your (Q53) idea isn't bad. Then you can cut owl service on the (Q11). I would make the (Q100) run local from LIC to Rikers along 21 St/20 Av. The (Q110) and N6 aren't as nearby as you think they are once they split from Francis Lewis-Jamaica. I'll reply to the rest later

I am fully aware that the (MTA) is still in middle of a budget crisis? However with recent putbacks i.e X37/38 the SW Brooklyn-Midtown Super express, there are signs that very soon the (MTA) maybe looking again to restore a few more of the service cuts and even add some long overdue new bus lines.

My question is that I have always wondered how come several bus lines such as the "BXM7" Coop City (BX1) (BX3) (BX7) in the Bronx, the (M5)in Manhattan, (B9) (B45) (B49) (B83) in Brooklyn, the (S79) (X1) in Staten Island and the

(Q53) (Q66) in Queens among others do not run overnights?

Yet some routes that may not need to run overnight such as the (B25) (B47) (B52) in Brooklyn, (M79) (M101/102)in Manhattan runs all night. Can someone please explain?

Alternative for the (B45) is the (4). There were rumors about the (B83) becoming a 24/7 line but thats it. You have the (B6), (B15), and (B82) as alternatives.

I disagree about cutting bus lines overnight because subways are available. Those who are disabled or concerned for their safety generally rely on the bus, so I would be opposed to that. Now if there is another bus that can be used as an alternative then that's fine.

Again the (MTA) does not have deep pockets. Do You Garibaldi want the base fare to be $6-$7 if every bus line in the NYC system like you propose runs 24/7? I don't have that money.

And for instance for not running the (Q56) on Jamaica Ave overnights, there the (J) train and also the (Q24) on Atlantic Ave. It could still run until 1am.

Ditto for not running the (M102) between say 130am-5am. Lenox riders can use the (M7) or the (3) subway to 125th and transfer to the (M101).

And if you read my comments i said some routes like The (B44) (B46) (BX12)

should run every 30 minutes overnights instead of every 40-60 minutes at those hours.

Clearly you didn't read my entire comment or didn't understand it. When you do that then we can have a discussion about this. I don't feel like repeating myself if you're not going to read my entire post and then ask me a question based on the fact that you only read part of what I wrote. It's not that I don't want to discuss it. I'm just asking that you read what I wrote fully before replying.

I read what you said. I stand what I said about the tone you write in your comments. Meaning if you could you would want every subway/bus line to run all the time even if costs alot in gas and would have no riders on them.

On the issue of the ADA community being out it in the overnights, it wont be as much as say for instance at 3pm in the afternoon on a Friday that for sure.

For that matter not as many people of every community group in NYC will be out in force at 3am in morning.

Most of the riders at that hour at either workers on the 3rd shift or coming home from a dance club/other entertainment such as the movies..

All I can add to this discussion is that I would love to see the M1 overnight service restored and I would LOVE to see the BxM7 have 24/7 service. I wish there was a way for the Bx12 to go all around Co-Op City at night because there needs to be another bus running in the area aside from the Bx28. That's my 2 cents.

Preaching to the choir my friend. At This point it would be great even if full 7 day a week (M1) service was restored along the full route.

As a compromise I always felt weekend (M1) service could start/end at Penn Station if the (MTA) felt if there too much service south of 34th Street.

As a compromise I always felt weekend (M1) service could start/end at Penn Station if the (MTA) felt if there too much service south of 34th Street.

Part of the MTA's reason for truncating the M1 was that there were too many street events in the upper/mid part of 5th Avenue that require detours and adversely affect ridership. I would agree with that reasoning, but how about running the M1 all the way to 8th St from Nov to Apr.

I have a plan for NYC but it involves extensions and faster more direct bus service to fill in the gaps left but the subway system Hint: I-278 will see more faster bus options labled as Direct

I'd like to see this plan of yours

For example Q53 extends to Long island city replacing Q104 via broadway Q104 eliminated but replaced. The Bx55 becomes a direct route or limited direct rapid line extending over I-278 to LGA non stop then non stop via grand central to main st where it replaces Q74 or Q38 partially via LIE.

Q33 extends to lower east side via the BQE with a stop in williamsburg replacing B39 and indirectly restoring service. Since it goes to LGA and jackson heights via the highway it will attract more riders than the B39 while making B39 folk happy

I would replace the Q11 overnights with the Q53 running 'local' between Queens Center Mall and Rockaway Park.

Q32 should be 24/7.-Maybe later service until 130am but you always have the (E)(F)(7) subway and Q33 for all night service.

Q33, Q34, Q35, Q36, Q37, Q38, Q39, Q40, Q41, Q42, Q43, Q44, Q45, Q46, Q47, Q48, Q49, Q50 is good.-Only the Q33, 35, 36, 43, 44 and 46 runs all night. The Q43 and 46 should have 30-40 minute headways overnights.

Q53 should be 24/7.-Agreed. However it would be a local between 1230am-6am(or until 8am Sunday Mornings.).

Q54, Q55, Q56, Q58, Q59, Q60, Q64, Q65, Q66, Q67, Q69, Q72, Q76, Q77, Q79, Q83, Q84, Q85, Q88, Q100, Q101 is good.-Only the Q54, 56, 58, 59, 60, 65, 66, 83, 84 85 100 and 101 run owl service. I would add the Q64 to this list for 24/7 service.

Q102 should be 24/7.-Why?

Q103, Q104, Q110, Q111, Q112 is good.-Only the Q110, 111 and 113 runs all night here.Q113 should be 24/7.-Already runs with hourly headways overnights.

Staten Island:

S40, S42 is good.

S44 should be 24/7-On the fence on this one.

S46, S48, S51, S52, S53 is good.-S53 should have 20-30 minute headways overnights.

S54 should go back to being a daily route.-Agree but we were talking overnight service.

S55, S56, S57, S59 is good.-None of these run all night. I do agree that the S59 should run all night w/ hourly service between Pt Richmond and Hylan/Richmond Ave.

S61 should be 24/7.-Disagree-If the S59 owl service was restored you, Victory riders can transfer between the S62 and S59./COLOR].

S62, S66, S74 is good.-S66 does not run all night.S76 should be daily.

S78 is good.

S79 should be 24/7.-Agreed. At least hourly.

S81, S84, S86, S88, is good.-None of these runs other than rush hours only./COLOR].

S89 should be 24/7.-Wow? Getting greedy are we? Sounds like you could use some lessons on SI Bus service. We should maybe expand to all day weekdays and maybe Saturdays first ok?S90, S91, S92 is good.

S93 should be daily.-All day Weekdays and a few hours Saturdays yes. No need for Sunday service.

S94, S96, S98 are good.-Losing focus aren't we?

Long Island:

N1-N88 are all good.

Only the N4 and N6 runs all night. Ideally the N22 at least between the Mineola LIRR and Jamica and Q12/N20 between Great Neck and Flushing should also be on this list for hourly 24/7 service.

Shortline: All of his comments were about what reductions he would restore in general, not necessarily about overnight service.

Fully aware about what Luis was saying. Still not meant to be rude but there was other countless other threads in which he could offer his takes(some actually excellent)on regular full time daytime/early evening bus service.

Overnight bus/subway service is a topic that rarely discussed on these transit boards. Yet it's growing aspect of ridership as more people are working the so called '3rd shift' i.e 11pm-7am.
