R9 Question

Recommended Posts

They didn't need to since they were already on their way out. The R16s were still there at that time so they brought them out of retirement (ironically replaced by the R44/R46s) and used them until the problem was settled

With the troubles the R44s and R46s were having would it have made sense to overhaul the R1-R9 cars until the issues with the R44 and R46 could be resolved? Was this idea ever proposed to the TA?

I think it was thought of, but never really went past that.

Because of the R46 truck issues some R16s (GE units mothballed in late 1970s) actually had to return to service to fill in, running longer than expected (until 1982, the WE R16s until 1987).
