qjtransitmaster 216 Posted May 22, 2011 Share #151 Posted May 22, 2011 So what was the other stop, the ETC? I think the X17J is one of those routes. It loops around the streets of the South Shore and then makes most stop along Richmond Avenue. I think this problem could be solved by splitting the X17J. Buses could run every 10 minutes or so, and then go onto the WSE instead of going down Richmond Avenue. Riders in the South Shore see a slight decrease in service, but have a much faster ride, which more than makes up for it. The headways along Richmond Avenue could be, say 7-8 minutes, so riders over here won't see that much of a benefit (except that buses will be slightly less crowded, so people might not have to let as many buses go by in the hopes of getting a seat) I've always wondered why riders coming from the New Springville area would pass up S89s and get on X17Js when the S89 could bypass several X17Js making all stops along Richmond Avenue, giving them a faster ride. cause those ppl are STUPID thats why they pass up S89 or want to just reach manhattan
checkmatechamp13 2,465 Posted May 22, 2011 Share #152 Posted May 22, 2011 cause those ppl are STUPID thats why they pass up S89 or want to just reach manhattan I could understand it if they are only concerned about getting a seat, and not worried about how long it will take them to get to Manhattan, but I can't see why somebody in a hurry would pass up the S89. The only reason I could think of would be that they are ignorant and don't know that it is faster than the X17. Actually, there are some local bus riders that still don't know that the S89 is basically a limited-stop S59. I tell them "its express and it goes down Richmond Avenue" and they still pass it up (some of them pass it up because it goes to the "back of the mall" on Marsh Avenue, which is still the same distance as getting to the front of the mall on Ring Road). That's why I suggested rerouting all buses to Marsh Avenue and saying that it is the same distance as going to Ring Road. By the way, under my plan, the first and last few X17Js of the morning would still make all stops in Huguenot and on Richmond Avenue.

checkmatechamp13 2,465 Posted May 22, 2011 Share #154 Posted May 22, 2011 Reading is essential. You can pass several X17Js on the S89, and then get one that left Huguenot earlier than the one you intended to catch.

checkmatechamp13 2,465 Posted May 22, 2011 Share #156 Posted May 22, 2011 The S89 isn't full. It gets a decent number of riders at the ETC, but it is nowhere near SRO until it gets to the North Shore. The earliest I would imagine it gets SRO is by Victory Blvd, but generally it doesn't get SRO until Walker Street (and even then, it only happens occasionally, because a lot of riders are students who get off at Walker Street) In any case, the X17 basically makes all stops along Richmond Avenue, and some of them have a lot of people waiting. Meanwhile, the S89 makes its stops fairly quickly, since there are fewer people waiting at each stop (and, of course, there are fewer stops). Since the X17 runs less than every 5 minutes during rush hours, you'll at least get 2 buses ahead if you ride up to Victory Blvd (beyond that point, you might lose the time saved, since there are fewer seats beyond that point)
