MTA expands MetroCards loss policy

The MTA will now reimburse the balance of lost 7-day and 14-day MetroCards purchased on a credit or debit card.

The program had once been limited only to the 30-day card.

There were 5,944 reimbursement claims for lost cards in March 2008, the last month data was available. The average reimbursement was $48.50.

The insurance against lost or stolen metrocards is great, but it should be expanded to not just credit or debit card holders, it should benefit reduced-fare customers as well.

Yea it should be expanded more, i guess they'll see how this goes first.

There is a limit on the number of lost cards you can report per year. I wonder if this affects the 7 and 14 day cards or if they have a different number.

I think they should expand it to include cash transactions, so long as you're able to validate your payment with the serial number on the back of the MetroCard, along with date and location of purchase.
