ipaclansite 0 Posted May 24, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 24, 2008 I've heard about the and getting R160's, apparently I've seen one on the W in service yesterday. MattTrain 3,120 Posted May 24, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted May 24, 2008 Oh yeah, I agree with the longer trains. The platforms are over 600 feet long and yet the four car R46's are only 300 feet on the .

They aren't based out of the right yard for this to happen and there's no plan to move the R68s. 2. using R68/As full time - definitely. It is probably going to be possible to see an R160 train during construction 3. using R160s - Not likely. 4. using R46s more often - Maybe 5. using R160s - No. The R143 tested on Culver were from the since they were having some problems. 6. using 8-car R46s - If it has been transfered to Coney Island, maybe. 7. using R143 and R160A - No. R143 are strictly for use on the . Pablo M 201 35 Posted May 24, 2008 Share #6 Posted May 24, 2008 The and trains using the R68/As, I don't think they will. Supposedly it is going to happen. High chances dropped long ago but still has little life to it. Heres whats going to happen. & to use R42s for a while, R40Ms, R44s, R46s. will go 100% R68/A from what I heard with a very small chance of a few R160s being used. will go probably 100% R46. and to go 100% R160/R179 but it'll be a while before that happens. , , and to be 100% R160As. of course got what it needs. and to be R160s with a few R68/As here and there. and I'm not so sure of. will use R160A-2s along with R68/As. MattTrain 3,120 Posted May 25, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted May 25, 2008 R160's should be on the and so they can be maintained at the Coney Island Subway yard. That yard is the largest in the system, so it makes sense that R160 cars have direct access to that yard. Concourse Yard in the Bronx and Jamaica Yard can sure house some R160 cars too, their yards are pretty big too. Jamaica Yard for the using the R160 Concourse Yard for the and using the R160. MattTrain 3,120 Posted May 25, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted May 25, 2008 I don't think Concourse wants to get rid of the R68s they have so drop R160s being on the . The r68s have to go somewhere. I've seen some R68's run on the on occasion, I don't remember if it was signed on the . I did see one photo, forgot the site, but the used an R68 train set. The R160's have to go on the , they were tested on the for an acceptance test for 20 days before. So the should use the R160's within a year from now. and will use the R160A/B's within this year. and are fully R160A's by next year. The will use remaining R42's transferred from the BMT Division. That's my prediction.

N-Trizzy2609 11 Posted May 25, 2008 Share #11 Posted May 25, 2008 Ok lemme break it down once and for all: & will NOT get 68's but will get R-46 and R-42, R-40Ms (Some slants too) will get a few more R-46s to replace the shrinking fleet of R-32s will NOT get R-160's but will get R-179s when ordered. will NOT be extended to 8 cars until the Culver Viaduct Rehab is done. will be full time R-68 and will have one or two R-160Bs by 2011 will NOT get R-160s at ALL! will NOT get R-143s at ALL! All R-143s run strictly on the & will get all R-160A-2 and a few R-160Bs by November. (By then the will be eight cars again.) Hope that cleared things up. Uh, will be using R160s along with R179s but not anytime soon. Something the MTA is doing that will take a while and once thats done the and the needs to be fully R160/R179.All of these assumptions are just predictions, for me honestly I don't know where the new cars are going exactly. I mean all predictions sound reasonably accurate, but who knows?Alot of what was said here in this thread is true based on what the MTA has said and is doing. Sure, it is slated to change, and then you have a few others here putting up their dreams, but like I said, alot here is very much true.

MattTrain 3,120 Posted May 25, 2008 Author Share #16 Posted May 25, 2008 Oh wow, lots of talk about R68 and R160 If all R160's are delivered, including all option orders from Alstom and Kawasaki, then here is where some types of cars will end up. R68's (2500-2915) will run on the and Franklin Avenue Shuttle will retain their cars. R68a's (5001-5200) will run presumably on and R160's will run full time on and R160's will run part time on and maybe
