Future subway car assignment rumors

There are rumors about future subway car assignments on the BMT-IND lines.

Are these true or not?

(A) and (C) uses the R68/A's and R160A/B's in the near future

(B) uses the R68/A's full time and maybe an R160 train in two years

(D) will use the R160's in a year and a half.

(E) will use the R46's more often

(F) will use the R160B's two years from now, since the R143 has been tested on Culver.

(G) will finally use an eight-car R46 trains.

(M) will use the R143's full time with the R160A

(Q) and (W) will use the R160B's this year.

(R) with an R160 train this year.

These are just the things that I hear from people who ride the (Q) today. I know one must be true, but I'm not sure about the rest.

Some cleaner cleaning the R160 on the (N) said that all Stillwell Avenue lines (D)(F)(N) and (Q) will be using R160's in a year or two due to close proximity at the Coney Island yard.

I don't know if that's true either.

Any comments?

I've heard about the (Q) and (W) getting R160's, apparently I've seen one on the W in service yesterday.

The (A)'s had R160 testing already, though they aren't running on them anymore. I was lucky to catch one during testing.

I dont know about the others, but it'd be nice to see longer (G) Trains, and R46 (E)'s

1. (A) and (C) using R68/As, no. They aren't based out of the right yard for this to happen and there's no plan to move the R68s.

2. (B) using R68/As full time - definitely. It is probably going to be possible to see an R160 (B) train during construction

3. (D) using R160s - Not likely.

4. (E) using R46s more often - Maybe

5. (F) using R160s - No. The R143 tested on Culver were from the (L) since they were having some problems.

6. (G) using 8-car R46s - If it has been transfered to Coney Island, maybe.

7. (M) using R143 and R160A - No. R143 are strictly for use on the (L). It will run all R160As full time and is pretty close to it already.

8. (Q) and (W) running R160s - Definitely.

9. (R) running R160s - No.

10. (D)(F)(N)(Q) using R160s - Definitely for the (N) and (Q), maybe for the (D), not for the (F).

The (A) and (C) trains using the R68/As, I don't think they will.

Supposedly it is going to happen. High chances dropped long ago but still has little life to it.

Heres whats going to happen.

(A) & (C) to use R42s for a while, R40Ms, R44s, R46s.

(B) will go 100% R68/A from what I heard with a very small chance of a few R160s being used.

(E) will go probably 100% R46.

(F) and (G) to go 100% R160/R179 but it'll be a while before that happens.

(J), (M), and (Z) to be 100% R160As.

(L) of course got what it needs.

(N) and (W) to be R160s with a few R68/As here and there.

(R) and (V) I'm not so sure of.

(Q) will use R160A-2s along with R68/As.

R160's should be on the (D)(F)(N) and (Q) so they can be maintained at the Coney Island Subway yard. That yard is the largest in the system, so it makes sense that R160 cars have direct access to that yard. Concourse Yard in the Bronx and Jamaica Yard can sure house some R160 cars too, their yards are pretty big too.

Jamaica Yard for the (F) using the R160

Concourse Yard for the (B) and (D) using the R160.

I don't think Concourse wants to get rid of the R68s they have so drop R160s being on the (D).

The r68s have to go somewhere. I've seen some R68's run on the (F) on occasion, I don't remember if it was signed on the (F). I did see one photo, forgot the site, but the (A) used an R68 train set.

The R160's have to go on the (A), they were tested on the (A) for an acceptance test for 20 days before.

So the (A) should use the R160's within a year from now.

(Q)(R) and (W) will use the R160A/B's within this year.

(J)(L)(M) and (Z) are fully R160A's by next year.

The (C) will use remaining R42's transferred from the BMT Division.

That's my prediction.

A 5 car set of R160's was burn testing out in the Rockaways yesterday, went by two fast to get car #'s

Ok lemme break it down once and for all:

(A)&(C) will NOT get 68's but will get R-46 and R-42, R-40Ms (Some slants too)

(E) will get a few more R-46s to replace the shrinking fleet of R-32s

(F) will NOT get R-160's but will get R-179s when ordered.

(G) will NOT be extended to 8 cars until the Culver Viaduct Rehab is done.

(B) will be full time R-68 and will have one or two R-160Bs by 2011

(D) will NOT get R-160s at ALL!

(M) will NOT get R-143s at ALL! All R-143s run strictly on the (L)

(Q) & (W) will get all R-160A-2 and a few R-160Bs by November. (By then the (G) will be eight cars again.)

Hope that cleared things up.

All of these assumptions are just predictions, for me honestly I don't know where the new cars are going exactly. I mean all predictions sound reasonably accurate, but who knows?

Uh, (F) will be using R160s along with R179s but not anytime soon. Something the MTA is doing that will take a while and once thats done the (F) and the (G) needs to be fully R160/R179.

Alot of what was said here in this thread is true based on what the MTA has said and is doing. Sure, it is slated to change, and then you have a few others here putting up their dreams, but like I said, alot here is very much true.

So the (Q) will be full R160A-2 & R160B's? Not even 1 or 2 68s? Wow, so then all Coney Island's R68's 2788-2914, plus All R68A's will be on the (B)?.. Stillwell & Coney yards will be flooded on weekends then.
The four-car unit R68s at CI are R68s 2784 to 2915. R68s 2916 to 2924 are singles assigned to the Franklin Avenue Shuttle.

Oh wow, lots of talk about R68 and R160

If all R160's are delivered, including all option orders from Alstom and Kawasaki, then here is where some types of cars will end up.

R68's (2500-2915) will run on the

(A)(B)(C)(D)(N)(Q) and (W)

Franklin Avenue Shuttle (S) will retain their cars.

R68a's (5001-5200) will run presumably on

(A)(B)(D)(N)(Q) and (W)

R160's will run full time on

(J)(L)(M)(N)(Q)(R) and (W)

R160's will run part time on

(A)(B)(C)(D)(E)(F)(G) and maybe (V)

(Q) going to see R68/As. There aren't going to be enough R160s to make boot for the day. The (Q) is ending with most of the R160A-2s when more start coming in with an R160Bs at times, but for sure to still see R68/As.
