The matter at hand in this thread is essentially gang violence killing a young kid. It's not poor people. It's not black people. It's not people living in projects. It's about the scum of the earth, gang members.

Great post. I call them HOOD RATS and just like the bankers, politicians, lawyers, and media spin doctors...they've got to go. Ship them all to the coldest part of china as a "paydown" on the federal deficit..."FREE LABOR". Call it a social experiment.

I'm going to spin this in an entirely different direction...

His mother said he had fallen in with a bad crowd, but he wasn't a troublemaker, and she was trying to set him straight —nevertheless, gang violence plagues the neighborhood

Yeah, and you can thank the matriarchy that continues to "plague" & be a detriment to the black community...

You would never hear a father of a child say some BS like that.... It's basically her implying that she knows he's a bad kid, but don't know wtf to do with him.... so just have him succumb to the gangs.... and this is a huge reason why young black males (especially) fall victim (in this case, literally) to the same perpetual pitfalls....

The way a LOT of single mothers treat their sons, compared to their daughters, I believe, is no accident - Especially those that happen to reside in the projects..... It's a collective mindset amongst the sisterhood; this general attitude that the young black man is disposable (and whatever failures he experiences is his own fault, or the fault of some other MALE in his family.... failure b/c this is what's to be expected of him!), and the young black woman is to be preserved at all costs (no matter what the hell they involve themselves in, there is to be no shame cast upon them whatsoever).... and quite frankly, I'm f****n sick of it.....

Sorry for the rant, but that part of the article rubbed me the wrong way.....

I genuinely hate articles like these. Some of the comments that follow are just difficult to read. Something does need to be done about the projects but the idea of just relocating them and saying "let them be someone else's problem" is just absurd. If we could do that what makes people think others wouldn't try the same? Then what ya have is a game of hot potato of people "passing the projects" from place to place. Which...is this even possible??

Unfortunately these low end people are still people and need a place to live. And the idea of just casting them aside like this is exactly how they feel the public prefers to handle them in the first place. I grew up in the projects and I have to say i had a hard to feeling different. Even now that I've moved out, there isn't a day that goes by that I think about the people I left behind and how they're doing. Did they make it out? Are they still alive? And it's not an easy matter of just getting back in touch at this point either.

And it's obvious people recognize the real problem here and just don't want to put in the work to actually fix it. They'd rather continue to spoil our mindless well to do and to hell with everybody else. I knew some very decent people out there. I was lucky enough to get the chance to do better. These kids need to see they have a chance to do better. Unfortunately our adults are long gone and will never change their ways but those project children can be taught to live better. I certainly was.

That's already happening and has been for years. It's called gentrification and re-zoing.

The victim in this case was Latino, not black.

Bulls--t,If you rob my store you are a troublemaker regardless. The mother should had control of his kid from not joining bad group, do what you have to no matter what protect your children, I know that you can get shot good or bad but parents should be involved with children's life's even if they don't like it or not.

This is so true. I have an aunt who lived in the projects for years. Both of her sons spent time in prison. Her daughter, however, is a court officer who lives in the suburbs in New Jersey.

This is what happens when you let boys to be boys. You create animals. Guys need a beating when they are young. Girls are much better because they have less of a tendency to act wild.

Not true at all. There are plenty of female gangs out there and some of them will make the male gangs look weak as hell.

Are you outta your goddamn mind? What kinda utopia bubble are you living in? I know plenty of girls that get into some crazy stuff. i dare say they can be worse.

- Apparently you haven't heard of the porn industry...

- Apparently you haven't heard about the rising number of female gangs...

- Apparently you haven't heard of the feminist movement....

- Apparently you haven't heard about the drastic increase in teenage pregnancies

(you are sadly mistaken if you think it's boys that are out here wanting kids at age 14-15)

- Apparently you haven't heard about all the booty shakin videos these girls upload to these different tube sites for "attention"....

Downright disgusting to sit up here & paint this pretty little picture about girls.... You are doin some HEAVY simpin right about now... You do realize these girls out here are privy to that; they aint w/ that BS no more....

I'll say this as many times as I have to.... Chivalry is dead and WOMEN killed it.....

These same women are teaching young girls to be rebellious out here...

so much for creating animals....

....and beating any kid when they're young, creates resentment... and to be honest, it teaches that kid that "violence is the answer".... There are far more mothers that resort to beating their kids than you will see fathers.....

...and thanks for proving my point by the way.

We have got to clean up our neighborhoods of these criminals and give these criminals harsh prison sentences.

No matter how harsh a sentence the legal system still fails. There are a ton of different outcomes for murder.

There is too many plea deals which result in a lesser sentence. My mom represented some guy who killed his gf but was charged with "Murder with the intent not to kill" and the guy got 5yrs 85%(He's most likely out now). If you point a gun at someone and shoot and the person dies it should be an automatic life sentence.

Its so many different murder charges and all you need is a lawyer who will press the issue that it wasnt a flat out murder.

---------

Now, this is why you dont want these guys sitting in jail/prison.

Think about it, your tax money is paying for these guys to sit in there to have someone basically tell you when to eat, sleep, shower ect ect. Thats where some of your tax dollars go; to take care of these guys until they get out or die behind bars.

More harsh prison sentence = more tax dollars to feed these scumbags. One guy my mom represented said prison for him is like a hotel because its a free meal and a warm place to stay.

Well sorry, but I am a gentlemen, and I can't change the fact of not being one. I have had always been nice to females since I was young. I was raised to respect them, but you are correct that some women don't deserve the respect that us guys give them, and you are correct about beating kids. I shouldn't do anything that would scar them for life, but of course my temper caught me at that post. I've got to control my temper before I say anything. It does make me look stupid.

Do you think before you post?

I guess you never heard of that girl that caused that guy to jump off the GWB.

Girls are no saints....

Just go into a mall and pay attention to a group of females aged 13-27...

....and you will continue to get walked on, over, around, and through.

But don't take my word for it; Experience is often the best teacher, so get your feet wet, kid....

Regardless, what you're sayin right now is a totally separate issue... from tellin us that this (shooting) was the result of "boys being boys", being animals.... Laughable that you think a few beatings would deter thoughts/acts of criminal activity from boys.... Oh if someone out there uploaded that gangland episode where you had certain gang members come on & say that the beatings they got as kids, was a factor behind their lashing out at the world the way they continue to....

I'll use a little "animal" analogy for you....

You keep whipping a domesticated cat & watch it turn in a savage wild animal right before your eyes....

Look, aint no one on here advocating that you have to treat females like dirt.... but seriously, miss me with that boys are animals & women do little wrong BS....

Hah when I was in middle school the majority of fights I saw were all females... Ahhh eighth grade...

I believe you.

See me, I went to a private school in middle school; w/e few fights there were, were all between the boys.... even those I grew up with (all went to public school, meyer levin to be exact, back when the meyer levin/winthrop feuds were goin about), it was mostly boys throwin bows.... the girls were on that catty, hair pulling, get the vaseline, flailing their arms tip.....

When I got to high school though.... it came as a wake up call, as to see how many girls were willing to (and did) scrap..... Now in 2011, I have to say that there's more girls out here fighting than there are boys.... I'm talkin about ballin up fists & lettin em fly.....

not like I'm tryna justify any of this garbage, but cats out here don't fist fight no more... if it aint about a knife or a gun (or strength in numbers), they aint down with it..... cats do more shit talkin than fightin nowadays anyway....

oh how the tides have turned.....
