Laying down new tracks Bassist toured with the top acts, now works for the MTA

Music has been good to Paris Ford.

 

So has the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, where Ford, a bass guitarist who played for and toured the world with some of the top jazz, R&B and pop music acts of the 1970s and 1980s, has worked the evening maintenance shift for the past decade.

 

"I've been in the music business for 35 years, but it doesn't always pay the bills," Ford said. "Plus, for a while I got tired of the hustle and bustle of the music thing. It was a hard decision, but I knew I had to put my music on the back burner for a while."

 

Ford once spent a month in Buffalo recording with the late funk superstar Rick James on his ranch. He was touring with Teddy Pendergrass in 1982 when the late R&B superstar was in the traffic accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
