keysersoze 0 Posted May 31, 2008 Share #5 Posted May 31, 2008 Great shots, it's quite rare to see the garbage train! Come to think of, how many garbage trains are out there? Is it only one? And is it "visiting" stations on a fixed schedule?

There are actually 18 R127/R134s. And then I think it might a fleet of 20 or more Redbirds they use. But also find all sorts of cars doing garbage train duty, like R40 slants for example, for air conditioning purposes.

R32 3348 11 Posted June 1, 2008 Share #9 Posted June 1, 2008 Come to think of, how many garbage trains are out there? Is it only one? And is it "visiting" stations on a fixed schedule? Definitely more than one. You might sometimes catch it near areas where there's a G.O. going on. Otherwise, the garbage train loves the Queens Boulevard line. It's not rare to find it at Forest Hills or 179th Street. I've also seen it three times on the too.
INDman 414 Posted June 2, 2008 Share #10 Posted June 2, 2008 At West 4th Street one usually changes T/Os at 2am. I have seen it several times, mostly in one week. Don't ask me why I was still in the city at 2am, I don't even know.

Don't ask me why I was still in the city at 2am, I don't even know. I've spent 3 days in a row with no sleep in manhattan before doing things, taking photos and such. I kinda like it at night, still people, but somehow it seems more relaxing, especially in winter, when the air is still and like 10 degrees and you can smell that smell from the street vendors..... Nothin quite like it. - Andy
