Grand Concourse Posted July 17, 2011 Share #26 Posted July 17, 2011 The best idea would be to put it into a large tunnel. Still wouldn't do a thing. All you are doing is shifting the problem from above ground to below ground. It doesn't change the amount of usage. What should be done is discouraged single [and even 2 people only-if the car can carry more than 2 people] occupant cars and more carpooling or bus use. Shortline Bus Posted July 17, 2011 Author Share #27 Posted July 17, 2011 To show how big this project is LOL, that brought out of retirement CHIP star Erik Estrada to make PSA announcements lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANothNxBZrw Not to mention one of the lead national stories on Friday's newscasts including Good Morning America. And the Calif freeways can be scenic. Just take a look at the opening to the late 70's/early 80's era Cop Classic "CHIPS(Calif. Highway Patrol).B) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOD53VKBWPM PS Concourse i agree on above on your statements. However the auto level i.e AAA auto club, etc would oppose a HOV lane 24/7 in Metro NYC.
Shortline Bus Posted July 17, 2011 Author Share #28 Posted July 17, 2011 It's re-open. To the surprise of many(hello NYC pay attention)the '405' freeway near LA's west side has reopened. Turns out the predicted calls of mega traffic jams/tempers flaring, etc do not occur. This project success no doubt was helped by the multi-million dollar media campaign that occured a few weeks before this weekend. Not to mention many folks stayed home this weekend out there similar to a 'snow day' back here in the northeast. Now the '405' freeway will have 1 more total shutdown by end of this year or early in 2012 to finish a project that will add more lanes to one of the world's buisest highways. http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/07/17/partial-demolition-of-mulholland-bridge-on-schedule/ Wonder if NYC could perform a constuction project this quick?
