A little hyperbolic, don't you think? 1) The building in it's current form was built in 1913, less than one century ago. 2) What's wrong with a bit of retail in GCT? Washington's Union Station has a damn mall in it and it still has some character. I don't see why Grand Central getting an Apple Store will dramatically change the character of the historic landmark. It's not like they're tearing down the building and erecting a modern structure, like they did with Pennsylvania Station.
traildriver Posted July 27, 2011 Share #29 Posted July 27, 2011 IIRC, that east mezzanine before it was made into a restaurant, was the location of the big Kodak store and exhibit many years ago

A Wall Street Journal blog got access to some renderings that I thought looked good. They maintained the essence of the building and the architectural integrity: http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2011/07/25/apple-store-in-grand-centra-terminal/
R42 M Train Posted July 28, 2011 Share #31 Posted July 28, 2011 There goes another piece of new York city character being chipped away.now the station will be filled with hipsters and geeks. Why can't those fckers be so "obscure" and "trend-setting" and move to Iowa or something? lol
YankeesPwnMets Posted July 28, 2011 Share #32 Posted July 28, 2011 I don't give two shits if there are a bunch of geeks at GCT. If it helps keep the fare below $3 after the contract expires then I'm good
