gtNovaBusRTS9369 Posted July 26, 2011 Share #26 Posted July 26, 2011 ? the bus in the crash was built earlier this year, so it was a new bus. How would buying more new buses prevent crashes like the one in the OP? I was speaking for all the (MTA)'s bus fleet in general (Buses both New & Old). Remember what happened with buses like #9373 & #5003. Plus I only said buying new buses can cause accidents to occur less often I never said that such a move (like buying new buses) would prevent accidents like this from occuring all together. mark1447 Posted July 26, 2011 Share #28 Posted July 26, 2011 I rather it be all RTS in service since I hate them. Your crazy....! RTS is much more stronger then the Orions POS. (The Orion 5s are on, i have np with that!)

SirJokaPlaya Posted July 26, 2011 Share #31 Posted July 26, 2011 Three Things: I'm a NJT Guy, so I hope you guys don't mind me making some opinions about MTA. That is the biggest wreck I seen in a long time. Thank GOD no one besides the drivere was on that bus. That could of been a disaster. I'm am also glad the CNG tank held. The dude that hit the bus was drunk, and I hope he gets some time for this. That was major and could of been more major than that.

Speaking of 5003, how did that bus end up totaled? And is that why 9361 was sent to East New York Depot? As for the driver, it was a mechanic road-testing the bus after repairs (he's okay). Like 1808, it is still under warranty...if the bus isn't a total loss.

That thing can't be repaired, JUST LOOK AT THE DAMAGE! This bus is under warrenty, but I'm not sure if they want 1804 and 1808 back cause Veolia is taking over. Some ones opinion is someones opinion. See that ^^ is a good example. Do opinions matter? NO. Now you people think that opinions are facts and stuff but they ARE NOT. You don't try to persuade someone to change their opinion. Remember, its just an opinion. You guys take opinions way too seriously which don't even matter.... R188 7857 Posted July 26, 2011 Share #38 Posted July 26, 2011 Heh, I rather it be 666. I'm not foaming over one particular bus (that should be gone by now).... I wait for the N51 by NCC, anyway. Just so you know, I'm not foaming over 666. I like that bus cause I rode it a few times. 2 times when it was at Yukon, 4 times at where it is now. The RTS is the best batch of buses that the NYC Transit ever ordered. The RTS is a MUCH better bus than any Orion bus IMHO. The RTS' reliability and quality is FAR more outstanding than an Orion bus. LRG Posted July 26, 2011 Share #41 Posted July 26, 2011 If you don't like the RTS model then you may not be a real bus fan... Ummm...okay then...what if I said I don't like the RTS...which isn't true...I like them but I'm more of a fan of the Orion 5s...always have been and always will be. Since we're on the fence of what makes a bus fan a bus fan because what buses they like, I find RTS' overrated. Feed me to the dogs if you want, but that's just me. That being said if someone like's a different bus model then let them.

You guys take opinions way too seriously which don't even matter.... I missed this. It's ok to have an opinion, but your opinion is not fact based. The RTS is THE single most durable, reliable, and one of the most comfortable buses ever built. And that's a FACT. Not an opinion! @LRG - How, or why is the best bus ever built overrated? LRG Posted July 26, 2011 Share #44 Posted July 26, 2011 The reason why I say they're overrated is because of how much people get ecstatic over a bus model that dates back to the 1970s. I still like them (not as much as I like the 1999 Orions) but the fact that people blast others because they like a different bus model from this supposed "norm" absolutely kills me. With all honesty, WHO CARES? It's not that serious as people are making it out to be. It's just a friggin' bus! It moves people from Point A to B, and even C...it has no feelings or emotions. I seriously don't understand why people harp on the minority of busfans that like something besides the RTS...it absolutely kills me. I've been wanting to say this for the longest and I believe now was the right time to do so. I like Orion 5s because of their design, sound and power. I'm a hardcore Orion 5 fan and have been that way since I rode them on the B35 since I was a kid, and my opinion won't change for anyone. If anyone has a problem with that, too bad. I respect everyone's opinions about what they like and don't like, all I ask is that everyone else does likewise. </rant>

I understand where you're you're coming from, and respect your opinion. I like Orion V's as well, but they will never be the legend that the RTS is! Actually, that's not a fare comparison. NOTHING will ever be the legend that the RTS is! The only bus that comes close its its predecessor the New Look. I also wonder how many people will still say they don't like low floors when the new RTS LF hits the streets?!
Joel Up Front Posted July 26, 2011 Share #46 Posted July 26, 2011 *fair The Orion V dates back to the 1980s and even Long Island Bus was ordering them as late as 2003. They even managed to squeeze another year out of the 1997 series...
LRG Posted July 26, 2011 Share #47 Posted July 26, 2011 Thanks for seeing where I'm coming from, ENY. It just kills me that people have to like a specific bus model to be considered a buff. I'm all aware of how much of a "legend" the RTS is...the design was very futuristic at the time of its release. That's something that will never changed. As for low-floors, I've always had my qualms about them. I understand that they made boarding and exiting faster but it's just not the same as a HF bus for many reasons. I do like the Orion 6's design but never had a chance to ride them. I am a huge fan of the LFS, but mainly for it's design and sound, not so much that it's a LF. However, I'm willing to give the RTS LF a chance. As long as the MTA has a diverse fleet of buses, I'm cool with that. As much as I like Orion 5s I wouldn't want to see the entire city flooded with them. That would be and utter bore and make New York City less of an interesting place to transitfan. @Joel...the Orion 5 was introduced in 1989 and discontinued in 2009. East New York Posted July 26, 2011 Share #48 Posted July 26, 2011 The design actually will change very soon. The structure will remain the same, but finally after 3 decades, a new design will be available. As far as the low floor, it will be different from every other LF ever made. All other LF's are new buses from the ground up. The RTS LF is essentially nothing more than a standard RTS, with a lowered from section. On another note, I am also a huge fan of New Flyer products. They have always been innovative, and the D40LF was first in it's class. Also a fan of the Orion VII. The 3G is arguably the best bus Orion has built in years! It's definitely the best O7 ever built. SoSpectacular Posted July 26, 2011 Share #49 Posted July 26, 2011 Heh, I'm still a bit disappointed that they're making a low-floor RTS, the original design was good enough! Especially the original MTS ones!
R188 7857 Posted July 26, 2011 Share #50 Posted July 26, 2011 Omg, what did I miss?? On my trip I caught two freshly decaled buses lined up back to back. Pics coming later on.... I can't wait until the RTS low floor arrives. The only things I like about the RTS high floor is it's sounds and front doors...
