Harry Posted July 29, 2011 Share #26 Posted July 29, 2011 The bus driver was not seriously injured, the bus had no passengers, no one was eating at the McDonald's at the time. It was a freaking miracle!
FamousNYLover Posted July 29, 2011 Share #27 Posted July 29, 2011 Speaking of bad drivers, I learned from Long Island's Metro Newspaper that drivers motorists also text. I caught one of them in Freeport parking lot.

Grand Concourse Posted July 30, 2011 Share #29 Posted July 30, 2011 All I know is that I'm probably not gonna run strait for those seats in the LF section. Damn... I just wonder how the crash might've been if that was an O5 or RTS instead of a LF bus.

AlexLy Posted July 30, 2011 Share #31 Posted July 30, 2011 OMFG!!! That was a crazy vid! So the bus is a total loss? Are you guys sure there is no way to fix it? Because if it were a Nova LFS, they may have been able to fix it in some way. Take a look at these photos: http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/5328/24124134291594361615527.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/2985/24124134291714364615527.jpg Unbelievable but that bus is back in service as of this year. http://transitfan.com/gallery/var/albums/AlexDelZotto/STM-buses/28-001---28-132/IMG_6448.JPG

Nova RTS 9147 Posted August 1, 2011 Share #36 Posted August 1, 2011 Oh now that's sad. Its still under warranty, so its not like its a total financial loss. Plus with that kind of damage (front end, side, possible structural) it wouldn't make fiscal sense, as opposed to 28-021 which just suffered front end (albeit significant) damage. That is one hell of a repair job. To say the least...... The only bus I can think of that went through significant damage and made it back was our MCI that was damaged in 9/11 (21something, can't remember the exact number). And that damage wasn't nearly as bad as 1804.

East New York Posted August 2, 2011 Share #39 Posted August 2, 2011 I hope the warranty will make it survive the crash, as it's just a 2010 model. It's a 2011 model. But the warranty has nothing to do with accident damage. Insurance takes care of that. The manufactures warranty only covers the structure, systems, and components. DevilBus65 Posted August 2, 2011 Share #40 Posted August 2, 2011 Yeah warranty doesn't cover vans trying to sneak in the back door to avoid paying their fare.
R188 7857 Posted August 3, 2011 Share #41 Posted August 3, 2011 Veolia is taking over so I don't think there repairing or getting a new 1804. I think its a total loss since 1808 had suffered less damage than 1804 and it was scrap, so 1804 must be scrap too.

I think its a total loss since 1808 had suffered less damage than 1804 and it was scrap, so 1804 must be scrap too. For me it sounds like a liability issue for any agency. This was not minor damage it was major damage, if that bus was repaired and god forbid involved in another serious accident where a passenger is seriously injured or dies the mta or veolia will be sued by family and that agency will look horrible in the news. The news would will be replaying this video over and over asking the audience if the death/injury to the passenger could have been avoided if this bus was not repaired and put back into service, questioning whether the bus was structurally sound to be in service. Burrstone Posted August 11, 2011 Share #49 Posted August 11, 2011 It is a miracle no one died because of that idiot. Wow. People like this guy should be in prison for a very long time! Instead of getting to lay in a cell all day people like this should be put into a strict work program to offset the taxpayers bill of his incarceration or have a parole stipulation requiring people like this to pay off the bill of their incarceration. The only difference between this guy and any other drunk on the road is the fact that this guy is that he caused and accident. I don't know how Nassau operates but in other Counties of the State (ie Upstate) people charged with DWI are release within a couple of hours of their arrest with a court date so long as they have someone sober to pick them up. IMHO EVERYONE charged with DWI should be held in jail for a certain of time, like 72 hours. If they lose their job, so be it. It might encourage others NOT to drive drunk, fearing the 72 hour mandatory lock up,. "I can't lose my job, I better call a cab."
