More New Flyer Xcelsior News...

Preliminary Assignments for the 2019 New Flyer Xcelsior Articulated (XD60) fleet (#6126-6233) is Mother Clara Hale Depot (OF) for 51 buses to replace the current M15 +Select fleet which will push the 1200-Series & any 5000-Series Novas into local service and Flatbush (FB) for 57 buses to replace the current B44 +Select fleet and to convert the B46 +Select to articulated buses which will push the 5300-Series Novas into local service. First bus scheduled to arrive in January of 2019.

That is all the information available as of now, so any subsequent questions can not be answered as there is no more info at press time.

Excellent news to begin Thursday!  Great update sir.

About time those 1200 series leave the M15 +SBS+ It was really pitiful seeing all other +SBS+ routes being upgraded and the M15 staying behind.

Is the B46 Select bus Service really going to be converted to articulated bus operation? If so, why are they going to get 48 New Flyer XD40 buses in the SBS scheme (7667-7714)? Did they also fix the parking problem at DeKalb Avenue?

Did you read the fine print at the bottom?

and YES, the B46 is going articulated, maybe not FULL articulation but definitely at least 19 buses...yeesh.

My fault. I though the B46 SBS Artic operation was never going to happen due to parking issues at DeKalb Avenue, and the fact that they are getting new XD40 buses for the service.

But it is about time the B46 went artic, even though only 19 buses. Every time I’m there during the morning rush hour, it’s always standing room only after leaving Church Avenue. It gets to the point where people even stand at the rear door, even though it’s prohibited. I hope they deploy those buses during the morning rush.

What does the 1200’s series looks like?

They look like the current 328 2011-2012 LFSA Bus fleet, but with some minor differences. Of the 90 buses ordered, around 50 of them are seen on the M15 +Select, and and the last 39 are seen on some local routes out of OF (M35), GH, and KB in Manhattan and the Bronx. I believe one bus is off the roster due to an accident.

1205 had a fire I think.

Nonetheless, it looks like we more or less know where the option artics will go at the moment. If this is the current plan (assuming that there will be no new artics for local service), then it would make sense to have 36 LFSAs to GH, then 36 LFSAs to MQ. (Remember in the last press release for bus delivery, it was said some LFSAs will see service on the (L) shuttle.)

Those are assumed to be the 2018-2019 Nova LFS currently on order, though no confirmation nor projected assignments have been posted

in the meantime, certain operators (runs 017 & 019) have repeatedly not been assigned NG's. it's definitely a sight for sore eyes seeing lfs's on the 79sbs. those NG's are physically a mess.

Damm, it's that bad in Staten Island.. No wonder why Yukon has been getting some buses from Flatbush and Grand Avenue.

But all those buses from FB and GA are NG's so it doesn't fix the NG problem

P.S. IDK why you gave me a thumbs down for a question I asked earlier.

1. Are 017 and 019 opprators ID number?

2. What are all the problems with the NG?

The NG Hybrids (and by extension the VII hybrids in general) were meant to run on stop & go routes in most of the other four boroughs. They aren't suitable for Staten Island local bus routes (especially the 79SBS) as they can practically run thru open suburban roads that allow for higher speeds and, as a result, breakdown frequently.

There was also the issue of the digital screens messing them up electrically but might've been fixed by now

What would be the top speed for a NG before it pushes the engine

The SBS hybrids on the S79 are in good shape, those hybrids have a higher MDBF than local buses in the other four boroughs, they just look like crap. Wish Yukon was able to keep them nicer looking but those buses are fine mechanically.

Bare in mind these buses are sporting at delivery paint minus 4263 ( I may have the wrong number tho) , 4271, and 4278
