FB now receiving the XD60s with Quill patches on them. So far 6117, 6119 is about to go out on service on the 44

Those are maintenance and driver training buses pending delivery of the new XD60’s which ire now due in about 3 weeks or less. The buses are in audit now pending MTA approval.

I actually expected Hale to get u it’s first as they were originally scheduled for delivery in less than 60 days. I should have updated fleet plans, and official (L) Train updates in about 12 hours.

Yes 6119 is on the 44 right now. After it got fueled up and washed I was trying to see if anything new was changed compared to the new xd40s.

Those aren’t new buses lol. The new XD60’s will be more like the 7484+ batch.

6126+ will be the new buses.

Systemwide RTS totals in order of quantity:

FB: 47

UP: 45

JA: 44

ENY: 38

MJQ: 28

GA: 3

205 buses remain in service of the 350 in the final order. FB's total is going to be impacted by the XD60 arrivals shortly.

Im assuming when the B46 sbs get their artics that will bump out some of the 2018 40 footers into local service?

I hope those FB 47 RTS get out sooner 😞

Maybe they will, maybe they won't. After all, it feels like the RTS is one of the favorite buses in the MTA fleet, and maybe the drivers don't want to let these go (at least that's what I figured 6 months ago).

Surprising thing was that when the assignments came out for the XD40 and XD60 order last March, this would be the final fleet roster for ENY and FB when all deliveries and temporary assignments were said and done:

FB:

2009-10 Orion VII Hybrid 4228-4243, 4577-4630 (70)

2014-15 New Flyer XD40 7304-7365, 7483 (63)

2018-19 New Flyer XD40 7667-7714 (48) for B46+

2018-19 New Flyer XD60 (57) Numbers to be determined for B44+ and B46+

Total: 229

EN:

2004-05 Orion VII OG 6589-6624 (36)

2006-07 Orion VII OG 6790-6843 (54)

2011-12 New Flyer XD40 4810-4854 (45)

2014-15 New Flyer XD40 7090-7139 (50)

2018-19 New Flyer XD40 7588-7626 (39)

2016-17 New Flyer XD60 6109-6125 (17) for B82+

Total: 241

Fast Forward to 2019, that is not what happened, and most depots still have a handful of RTS in their fleet. Looks like the drivers will be clinging on to them for a little while longer.

That would have been a nice list right there if the plan originally stick. I don't believe the operators has any say what buses they want or not and I can ensure you if it was up to the operators decision, Those RTS (Dinosaurs)  would have left already. It seems only the old timers that has 15+ years on the job loves them and the new generation hates them. They are good buses for snow and transmission power, but for Big and Tall people, the operator compartment are not too friendly.

I believe that the 40 footer buses for FB on the B46 sbs will go into local service once they get their newer artics, well some of the 40 footers.

Well I see them as a classic for the MTA, especially how I grew up riding these buses (I live a few blocks from Flatbush Depot routes, such as the B41). In fact, I call these buses Legacy Buses, because I'm impressed by the fact that these buses have stayed around longer than buses before or after them. How did that happen?

Well CNG buses in the past would only last 12-15 years and the Orion Vs were rust buckets just to name a few reasons

Them assignments changes on the fly. They don’t follow suit, remember: WF has 1/8 of the XD40s to cover their expiring O7CNGs that are being sent to scrap. EN will be ready to get Artics but not in the 6109-6125,

Serveral pages back ENY said that the original assignments for the 2017 XD60s will be resumed. Those buses are all over the city. You got some on the Q52/53 sbs, Q44 sbs, Manhattan SBS routes, and some are at their original assignment depot at OH. So if East New York depot is getting artics it will be for their sbs routes. But at this point we're gonna have to wait till 2020 when everything is said and done. The current bus orders is to help accelerate the retirement of older buses.

Everything with the (MTA) is subject to change. 12-18 months from now those buses 6109-6125 may end up staying in Manhattan and East New York receiving a new batch of XD60's or hopefully XDE60's. MCH and FB artics are on the way since the (L) shuttle is a no-go.

Yes, I do agree with that. Hopefully with this round of deliveries that could happen.

Cannot for see 7615-7662 be the only deliveries for FB. Also do remember we have FP, JA, UP, GA, MJQ all on the board for additional buses too.

However, TA is splitting these buses between West Farms which have little to no CNG buses. TA needs to tap into another option order for more XN40's for WF only.

i believe that the xd40's at west farms are temp  untill the flatbush lfs 60's  are transfered   to the oa when mjg gets the 38 lfs 60's.

The MQ SBS fleet requires nearly 110 articulated buses. 17 XD60s, plus 77 of the new LFSAs will not be enough to cover service for the MQ SBS routes once the XD60s leave MQ for OH. The final assignments for MQ SBS should be as follows:

5439-5467 (29)

5483-5530 (48)

5567-5602 (36)

Total: 113

So no, they will not stay in Manhattan.

17 buses would be enough to cover the needs of the B82+ so they may get those buses. Some of the other SBS routes may need more buses.

Regarding the SBS fleet, might it make more sense to move the B82 Select to Flatbush? With the replacement of all of the bridges between Exits 14 and 9, buses should be able to use the Belt Parkway to deadhead. Even capped at 40 mph, I would suspect that it would be a shorter deadhead to Flatbush Depot, and more importantly, the pooling of the fleet could mean needing only one batch for the B44, B46, and B82 SBS combined. If room is needed, the B46 Local could be split with Grand Avenue, which could probably handle more buses without needing to move another route.

In the Bronx, the Bx41 was moved to Gun Hill for a similar reason (multiple SBS from one garage)---and in Manhattan, all of the SBS routes except for the M15 (using the same fleet since it started) are assigned to Quill. (The Bx6, being in the southern Bronx, could not be so easily moved except perhaps to Mother Hale, but since the Bx6 uses primarily CNG artics, what newer diesel artics could be swapped for the Bx6, especially since there doesn't appear to be any obvious choice to replace the M15 SBS fleet?)

Returning to the Belt Parkway, Spring Creek Depot could also use the Belt Parkway to deadhead for the B100, BM3, and BM4, and JFK could use the Belt Parkway for a Q8 deadhead.

As for the Bronx, I have to wonder if it would be smarter to move the Bx39 to West Farms (less complex deadhead to and from Kingsbridge) and split the Bx36 between West Farms and Kingsbridge. For the Bx39, driver changes could be done at Tremont Avenue, which is just down the street from the garage, and southbound final trips could terminate at Morris Park Avenue, with at least some runs starting from Morris Park Avenue as well.

The B82 is nowhere near Flatbush depot. The B82 can go to Ulmer Park but it’s not arctic ready
