I'll be surprised if those buses come before 2020. If the (MTA) wants new buses for the S79 SBS their best bet will be to wrap some existing NOVAs. If SI wants the NGs off the island, trading with the Bronx or Queens isn't a bad idea for the time being.

They'll be here before 2020.....

I did say SOME buses were sent back....not ALL!

Some posters here praising the RTS’ retirement will be the same exact ones complaining that newer buses don’t last as long and how “old equipment” is always better. Then there will be several members out of nowhere will suddenly going on about how they were “the best buses we had”. Just give it time....

If they would've modernized them that's a different story. It's 2019...after being used to one thing that's a major downgrade. For passengers and drivers. Who cares how long it last, at the end of the day there will always be newer buses, more comfortable and stylish.

I never understood how they're the best buses...how? For maintenance, for structural reasons? That's all under the hood shit, from a passenger POV, they're the worst, especially compared to whats out there NOW. Back when there were Orion Vs. I preferred Orion Vs because they were more spacious.

Some of yall need to stop living in the past and get with the times, time to upgrade stop holding on, it's not that serious.

Sometimes, upgrades aren't really "upgrades", especially when it comes to the space of the new LF buses.

In terms of overall reliability, the RTS fleet have been the best for many, many years. A lot of drivers will often go after the RTS over anything new because of how they drive and such, especially the senior ops who dislike all of the computerized stuff that the new buses have.

As for passenger POVs, I wouldn't completely say that. There are times where passengers have passed up a LF for an RTS because of the space(especially in Jamaica).

And the RTS & Orion Vs practically had the same amount of space.

Quick Question: other than the 6500s is LGA meant to get anything else????

They have an upcoming 53 bus order of XD60 buses split between them and JFK/Far Rockaway Depots for the Q52+ and Q53+. 43 for the main service, and 10 for the service expansion. This will displace the current fleet of XD60s 6030-6092 (even) and 6110-6124 (even) that are leased to MTA Bus that are bound for Tuskegee Airmen depot and one other depot.

LGA and JFK Depot are also slated to get 33 Orion VIIs from East NY Depot (most likely) to replace the 24 Orion VIIs they currently have.

Whoa. This is interesting. WF starting to return buses to East New York. They need to return back to Ulmer Park and Fresh Pond.

Honestly, what they need to do now is take C40LFs 230-250, 351-353 from Gleason to fill in the shortage , and have the 21 buses that will be assigned to them sent to Flatbush. With articulation of the B35, it looks like they won't need a lot of buses to cover all of its routes, especially since the headways were supposedly decreased. If they cant do that, send in 25 NG hybrids to WF, since they are already borrowing one of them (4100) from another depot just to cover service. If they are continuing to use that bus to cover service, just have an additional 24 NGs set up shop there. 100+169+25=194 buses, more than enough to cover service on the local routes at West Farms.

From there, EN and UP should give the 73xx buses they have back to FB and instead man up and take on some hybrids for the time being. Enter the retirement of the 2004-05 Orion VIIs, and EN should get 58 more NGs, for a total of 70 NGs. Finally, displace the 22 NG at UP with 25 new XDE40s and supplement the 70 NGs there with 20 new XDE40s to retire the 2006-07 NGs. If the drivers don't want to drive them, they should incentivize them into doing so by telling them that if you (the drivers) drive the NGs, you will get extra pay onto your paycheck, similar to how driving an artic would add an extra 25 cents an hour.

Fam. How bout this. You are asking for too much right now. That’s if the Department of Buses wants to go that route. I highly don’t think is going to happen.

Also, Flatbush is NOT getting any additional XD40’s for local service. It’s been discussed a few dozen times. Unless something major happens don’t expect Flatbush to get any more XD40’s unless it’s transfers from UP and East New York.

I was just making some suggestions here. Yes it won’t happen, but this is just what could have happened if they had that damn Orion VII CNG situation at WF completely under control, which they didn’t, thus causing some of the XD40s to go there one way or another to cover for the rapid Orion VII CNGs.
