Choking on exhaust fumes, a horrified Bronx mother watched this week as an MTA city bus sped away with her 7-year-old son on board while she was still buying her ticket.

Waving her arms and calling after the driver, Karen Wilson, 31, frantically hot-footed after the Bx12 Select Bus that had motored down Pelham Parkway with her 7-year-old son, Rowan Williams, Tuesday.

"I turned around and I realized that my son wasn't standing next to me anymore, and the bus was pulling away," said the Jamaican-born Wilson. "I ran behind the bus, waving at the driver.

"And he just kept going. He kept on going. I'm out of my mind now. I pull out my headset and dialed 911. I explained to the dispatcher what happened. She wanted to know what he was wearing.

"I'm there waiting 10 minutes. Ten long minutes. No police car. I was frantic at this point. People were looking at me like I'm crazy."

Wilson redialed 911 and repeated her son's description to another dispatcher. When a police cruiser finally arrived, she said, "I'm shaking like a leaf. I'm trembling. I couldn't calm myself down. My son was gone. Imagine how I felt."

And let me guess...She wants to sue? Its not the (MTA) fault that her son was foaming to get on a Nova LFS and decided to ditch his mom.Im sure we all did that at some point in time.:(

If the kid was right in front with the driver he could have stopped that’s not right. He’s 7 years old. If he entered through the other doors and by the time he got the diver he was already heading towards Fordham thru Bronx Park then I can understand him not being able to stop the bus. Bus yes the mother should have been more mindful of the child. If this was a light rail train or railroad train the driver can’t stop and go back It’s the same thing. Although I’ve seen families get separated with the closing of subway door and SBS Bus doors recently. I really think its up to the parent to determine if and when its safe. If it looks to crowded don’t push your kid in stupid.

LOL@ditching mom comment... I don't know what the procedure is for SBS buses, but if I heard correctly the (MTA) wants these buses moving, so I can understand the driver not wanting to stop. However, if the 7 year old kid told the driver that his mother was left behind then he should of at least called dispatch and let them know that he had a lost kid on his bus. Granted the mother was careless, etc., but had that kid been kidnapped or killed then what? We saw what happened with that other lost kid in Borough Park, so you really never know.

"His face was full of dried tears. I asked my son what happened and he said that he had asked the driver of the (Bx12) bus to stop because, 'My mom is left behind.'"

The driver, though, wouldn't stop the vehicle, Wilson added.

There's absolutely no excuse for that. How can the driver continue on as if nothing's wrong when he has a small child crying his eyes out about how he lost his mother at the bus stop?

What about the mom not holding the child's hand? Lack of proper parental supervision does these things. There are two wrongs in this story.

Defend the MTA employee... like always, they're perfect and never wrong... it's getting so damn annoying now. No shit it's the mother's fault but how can you just ignore a kid crying about how he got separated from his mother??

Who the f*** said any of that....

Where the hell did he defend the MTA in that statement....

Saying there were TWO wrongs in this story is not absolving the driver from any wrongdoing....

What's annoying is this tantrum you continue to display on these forums regarding the MTA just b/c of one particular cut....

The bad thing about this incident is that these type of things happen ALL THE TIME!

Let's say there's a mom (w/a stroller) and an older child running to catch the bus. The older child would run faster and hold the bus so his mother and younger sibling could get on and not get left behind. Stuff like this is very common.

To all the higher-ups on this board, please excuse my post as...well...stupidity has reach a new high AND low. This needs to be addressed.

You're fūcking blind, I said....

What about the mom not holding the child's hand? Lack of proper parental supervision does these things. There are two wrongs in this story.

Can you read? Obviously not....

Also, WHERE...and I mean WHERE did I defend the MTA employee? I clearly stated that there were TWO WRONGS in this story, blaming BOTH the B/O AND the parent!

Your stupid as hell and blind as a fūcking bat! Go back to 1st Grade and learn how to read, THEN come back at me when you have an intelligent reply....

Then again, I don't think an intelligent reply would even come out because your the same dumbass that would break train doors!

And I gotta agree with B35, you've been on some annoying tirade as of late because of your precious x90 getting cut, get the fūck over it already you fūcking crybaby. It makes me wonder if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and up your ass....

Go get one on these and suck on it and stop bitching about shit regarding the MTA each and every damn time. Damn, much worse than a nagging wife...

Which part of the bus did the kid get on?

Unless it was the front its highly unlikely the driver saw anything wrong and if he/she did see the mother, she could have easily been mistaken for some woman who didnt want to wait for the next bus.

Did the driver say anything to the kid?

The story really doesn't explain that except to say "The driver never stopped"

No Gorgor, I'm not defending the driver. He should have told the kid to relax and sit down and contacted dispatch. At the same time, the mom shouldnt have taken her eye off her kid like that. Very dangerous thing to do especially in this city.

Ok, I thought this article was about a 7 year old boy on a bus without his mother. Not about having a personal vendetta because your route was eliminated. You weren't the only one affected by the cuts last summer. Stop sounding like you were the only affected by the cuts. You sound like a child. As for the situation at hand, it was both the parent and the b/o's fault.

The key quote in there for me is, 'My mom is left behind.'"

I see parents let their kids run wild all over the place while they're trying to go shopping, or do other tasks. She was buying the tickets while he was probably running around and then boarded the bus. Parents need to keep their kids close by and not let them run all over the place. She's lucky he only boarded the bus early instead of possibly being hit by a car or kidnapped.

@Cait Sith hahahaha, that explains his avatar.

On-topic :

It is actually both person's fault. The mother should have been watching him and holding his had like Cait said or telling him to stay with her. The B/O should have pulled over and calm the child down and if the mother is running after the bus, he would have let the mother board.

When I had an on board accident on my bus, the mother of the 10-12 years old child, kept telling him what to say, where it hurts and stuff like that ( BTW EMS checked him out with out his mom opening her mouth and sad there is no mark on him anywhere ).

So how do we know that the kid actually came up to the driver as told him that the dumb a$$ beotch that the kid calls mom is left behind, or maybe, just maybe these are the words of the coach mom who wants to sue MTA ?

I do not think there is a driver out there who would ignore a crying baby coming up to him and telling him that he got separated from the parent. ( It is a very easy and legal way to blow a trip and get some paid over time because of the report that cops and MTA would be taking. And I dont know a driver who would say no to a blown trip and some extra pay)

I am not defending no one, just providing another opinion.

BTW that dumb a$$ mom should have child endangerment charges brought up against her by Bronx DA

Sorry Q43LTD, all parent's fault, unless B/O had actual knowledge, which is not reported anywhere. How is a B/O to know unless informed?

The key quote in there for me is, 'My mom is left behind.'"

So reported and quoted, with absolutely no reported witnesses to uphold claim.

Who knows what could of happen and looking at the situation and how everything went down it was both the B/O and the mother who were at fault.

Again, parent's fault for failure to maintain control of their child. Where are all those wonderful Bronx witnesses that come out of the wood work when any public employee commits any form of malfeasance?

If in fact, the B/O had any clue to that the 7 y.o was seperated from Mom, and Mom actually ran for bus.

"He ignored him. Every time I think about this, I go crazy," she said. "The more I think I about it, the crazier I get. I couldn't sleep last night. I had nightmares about this whole thing.

"I kept getting up during the night to check that he was in his bed."

"I want to know how this driver sleeps at night. My son could have been kidnapped. Something terrible could have happened. How could he have done that?"

Cops could not immediately confirm details of the incident Wednesday night.

http://www.nydailynews.com

Mom couldn't sleep after the incident, but seems junior slept fine all night after the "ordeal." Wonder if she punished him or disciplined the boy, or just blames the B/O for the whole thing?

Kids cry on buses constantly, kids constantly board without parents next to them, running up on bus ahead of parent, squeezing past everyone to grap a seat, etc. News reports over the years several times on different routes incidents have occured involving children, being left on, walking off buses etc. Unless the B/O is specifically and clearly informed of a situation, I will always give the B/O benefit of doubt that he was not aware.

I have and raised several children, not once were any of them ever seperated from me in public transit or public anything, or even come close. My kids were taught early on to stay on the bus/train and notify the B/O or C/R when appropriate of situation. The parent has sole responsability for own and their child's actions, period.

I wasn't there, but this story doesn't ring true at all. No witnesses, only Mom interviewed by news, making claims that the boy may have spoken to B/O. I will wait to hear B/Os side or any witness before passing judgement. As for the boy's Mom- hope she learned to supervise her child better.

And I'm getting tired of you blaming (MTA) personnel without looking at the situation from their side.

This happened on the Bx12 SBS....meaning the kid could have jumped in via the middle or rear doors and the B/O would not have known unless the kid came up to him or another passenger said something.

If you knew ANYTHING about MTA B/Os is that a good bunch of them came from driving school buses and would never knowingly take off with somebody else's kid. Even the most coldhearted driver would call that in.

At this point I don't care if I get banned, suspended or what.....but I for one am tired of people on here blaming the employees for the stupid things passengers do. It is not our jobs to wipe your ass for you....just get you from point A to point B safely. If you don't like they way we do it....buy a car.

I have one question. How could anybody say its the B/O fault when its says that the boy got off the bus and was found walking down southern Blvd. If the kid did say something to the driver and the driver ignored him other passengers on the bus would have said something. To me it seems like the mom just made up some bullshit story to tell the news to try and get another hard working individual fired from his good paying job cuz they a hater. Some of y'all really need to read the whole story and think before you even post your comments.
