EE Broadway Local Posted August 11, 2011 #1 Posted August 11, 2011 Star Trek Fans and Aficianados: September 8, 2011 will mark the thirty-fiffth (35th) anniversary of Star Trek. On September 8, 1966, the first regular episode of Star Trek aired on WNBC TV Channel 4. This episode was The Man Trap of the original series and bore the Stardate of 1513.1. At that time, it seemed like Star Trek wouldn't live past the second season and, maybe, become a show for then Independant stations like WNEW Channel 5, WOR Channel 9 and WPIX Channel 11 to help fill their airtime.. But, somehow, Star Trek caught on, spawning new generations, movies, cartoons, books, comic books collector's items, conventions, and fans. The Original Crew Was: Captain James Tiberius Kirk (Mr. William Shatner) First Officer, Science Officer Mr. Spock (Mr. Leonard Nimoy) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (Mr. DeForest Kelley) Chief Engineer, Second Officer Mr. Montgomery "Scotty" Scott (Mr. james Doohan) (My Favorite) Chief Communications Officer Miss Uhura (Miss Nichelle Nichols) Helmsman, Weapons Mr. Sulu (Mr. George Takei) Navigator, Security officer, Tactical Officer Mr. Pavel Checkhov (mr. walter Koenig) Captain's Yeoman Miss Janice Rand (Ms. Grace Lee Whitney) Nurse Miss Christine Chapel (Ms. Majel Barrett) My favorite Original Series episode is A Piece Of The Action, in which the U.S.S. Enterprise visits a planet whose society mimics twentieth (20th) Earth during the heyday of the gangsters. In this episode, Captain Kirk introduces us to the interesting card game, "Fizzbin". In honor of the upcoming anniversary, maybe the world's largest Star trek Convention will be taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Shortline Bus Posted August 11, 2011 #2 Posted August 11, 2011 Little correction on math Paul. This fall (2011)marks the 45th Anni. of Star Trek LOL:cool: not the '35th' lol. Also that show became a smash hit after it was cancelled by NBC in 1969. During reruns in the US and worldwide fueled by the Apollo space mission, that what spured the movies and becoming an all time favorite in science fiction.
QM1to6Ave Posted August 12, 2011 #3 Posted August 12, 2011 Star Trek is a fantastic series; it always stuck pretty close to real(istic) science, unlike certain other science fiction series, and had amazing characters, plots, and scenery. One of the best series of all time, in my opinion.
EE Broadway Local Posted August 12, 2011 Author #4 Posted August 12, 2011 I do apologize! 2011 is actually the forty-fifth anniversary since the original Star Trek debuted on NBC TV on September 8, 1966. Yesterday I seemed to think it was 2001 instead of 2011 LOL! (It's bad enough that at times I think its' 1978 and accompanied with these flashbacks). Getting back on topic, I do also have a favorite Star Trek Captain from later generations. He's Captain Jean-Luc Picard, who was played by Mr. Patrick Stewart.
