Shortline Bus Posted August 11, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 11, 2011 According to CNN, Texas Gov. Rick Perry best known as the man that succeed George W Bush in Austin, will make it offical this weekend. Perry will throw his 'hat' into the 2012 race for the White House. According to most polls, Perry instantly becomes the 'front runner' in the GOP primary race and so far the most serious challenger to President Obama. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/11/breaking-perry-will-announce-saturday/?hpt=hp_t2
Urbanfortitude Posted August 12, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 12, 2011 Not surprising. Who else do the GOP even have available that could prove to be competent. Their best bet is to find someone new to jump into things. Hopefully this guy doesn't prove to be a total horse ass.
QM1to6Ave Posted August 12, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 12, 2011 I wonder if he will ever acknowledge that one major reason for Texas' economic recovery is the drug trade and instability in Mexico. I doubt it.

Agreed, the candidates are shaping up to suck royally next year. Vote for myself? I'm still too young to be president... On the off chance Trainmaster5 from here decided to run...he's got my vote already. But more than likely, it's looking like 4 more years of Obama saying the right things while caving in like a mewling pussy to the people we elected him to uproot and spit on, or 4 years of some Republican imbecil polishing the pole of big business (pun intended) while it continues to shaft America (pun also intended). I'm too cynical to run for POTUS at this time. I agree with you about Barack Obama's backbone or lack of one. On the other hand there is no other candidate from either major party who has the intelligence to lead this country out of it's slow downward spiral except probably Obama.. We have candidates from one side of the spectrum who refuse to consider reforming the tax code, even if it means raising taxes on some. Those who signed that pledge are either liars or stupid, take your choice. Even their exalted saint Ronald Reagan wasn't that dumb. On the other side we have people who say "entitlements" are off the table which is also BS. If I were to advise the POTUS I'd have never have given in so easily. We have people on these forums complaining about their tax burden not realizing that their federal tax rates are probably the lowest in history. You have Standard and Poor downgrading the US bond rating and candidates are blaming on the POTUS. The same Standard and Poor who graded all those worthless CDOs as triple AAA. You have people calling Obama a "socialist", and worse, while the Scandinavian socialists live longer and have a better credit rating than the USA. I'm afraid the population has become infested with the fearful and outright stupid which is a dangerous combination, Just my opinion/rant. Carry on. So a President need good grades lol?:eek: Grades are meaningless like much of the arbitrary metrics people use to measure success in life (real GDP, "net worth" or as I call it "net possessions", batting average, pitching ERA, women bedded, employee of the month awards) what matters is what someone will do for this nation as a whole, and for its CITIZENS. nothing else matters. not even a little bit. Lets Check that out, shall we? With the help of PolitiFact, the non-partisan fact-checking guys who check political statements fro their statements, let's put that to the test, if Texas has jobs that can provide real wages to Middle-Class Americans- Lets see...Lloyd Doggett stated "Twenty-five states have lower unemployment than Texas" which is "tied with Mississippi for more minimum-wage jobs than anywhere in the United States." PolitiFact says that's True. "One in four Texans lacks health insurance, the highest proportion in the nation." states Paul Krugman, an Op-Ed Columnist. PolitiFact says that's True. "Under Gov. Rick Perry’s leadership [Texas] has created more jobs over the last decade than the rest of the states combined." PolitiFact says that's Mostly False. IntExp Posted August 17, 2011 Share #25 Posted August 17, 2011 How many jobs has the stimulus package created? Oh, I'll take you up on that one. And this time, PolitiFact is gonna help me out again. Now, lets check it out- a statement from the National Republican Senatorial Committee stated that "President Obama and liberal former DNC Chairman Tim Kaine’s $787 billion stimulus failed to create jobs." PolitiFact rated that as false. Why? Using a variety of sources (which I will now use), the White House found that 573,510 full-time equivalent jobs were funded by stimulus fund contracts, grants and loans. A report from the White House found that Figure 3 presents the behavior of the change in payroll employment. Employment shows the same pattern of an accelerating decline before the Recovery Act was passed followed by a significant improvement after. In the first quarter of 2009, the economy lost an average of 784,000 jobs per month. Job losses fell to 515,000 per month in the second quarter, 255,000 per month in the third, and 138,000 in the fourth. The economy began adding jobs in 2010, with average gains of 15,000 per month in the first quarter, 97,000 per month in the second quarter, 65,000 per month in the third quarter, and 141,000 per month in the fourth quarter. The reversal in the average monthly change in employment over the past seven quarters was among the largest on record. Private sector job growth has been even better this year than overall employment, moving from deep losses in 2009 to increases averaging 27,000 in 2010:Q1, 114,000 in 2010:Q2, 104,000 in 2010:Q3, and 146,000 in 2010:Q4.The timing of the turnaround coincides quite closely with the Recovery Act. The economy is obviously still recovering. Real GDP is below its normal path, and the unemployment rate remains elevated. Job growth averaged 80,000 per month in 2010, and while more robust growth is needed, this is movement in the right direction...This approach also indicates that the Act increased employment, relative to what it otherwise would have been, by 2.5 million as of 2010:Q4. But don't take from me or the biased people inside White House Council Of Economic Advisers, take it from the CBO, who found that between 1.3 million and 3.6 million jobs saved or created. Or from IHS/Global Insight, which found that 2.45 million jobs were saved or created. Or from Macroeconomic Advisers, which found that 2.3 million jobs were saved or created. Or from Moody’s Economy.com, which also found that 2.5 million jobs were saved or created. Eric Cantor (R-VA) also stated that "They (Democrats) passed a nearly $1 trillion stimulus bill which failed to get people back to work," Agian, rated as false, using the same figures. But it includes this, Many conservative economists balk at the methodology of these studies, which they say depends on assumptions that government stimulus automatically generates a net gain in economic activity. Conservatives have argued government stimulus doesn’t boost the economy, but merely shifts around dollars that could be better spent by the private sector. They’re also concerned deficit spending creates uncertainty for businesses looking to hire...But does that mean that the stimulus failed to put people back to work? In an interview, Tad DeHaven, a budget analyst with the libertarian Cato Institute said the stimulus program did create jobs, at least in the short term. "On one hand, it creates jobs," DeHaven said... To sum up: Cantor said the stimulus "failed to get people back to work." A variety of national studies estimate the measure saved or created at least 1.3 million jobs. The reports do not break down how many of the positions were new and how many were existing jobs that didn’t get cut. They do not tell us how many of the jobs were in the private sector and how many were public ones. But they do provide ample evidence that the stimulus did get people back to work. We rate Cantor’s statement False. Call me a drone all you want. I have the right to believe what I believe. Yes you do have that right. That is the beauty of this country- we can believe what in our opinion, is right, regardless of what anyone else tells you. Some food for thought.
