Shortline Bus Posted August 15, 2011 Share #26 Posted August 15, 2011 According to the Weather Underground, the August 8, 2007 storm brought 2.5 inches of rain to Central Park, less than half the 5.81 inches reported yesterday. 8/8/2007 yesterday A slight correction: the 7" of rain was recorded at JFK Airport yesterday, though that measurement was also more than double the recorded rainfall from 8/8/07. 8/8/2007 yesterday Oh ok. 6-7 inches of rain is alot any times of the year especially for August. Up in my neck of the woods it was only 3-4 inches (still alot)on Sunday 8/14/11. And that sad that on August 8, 2007 2-3 inches of rain can cause that nightmare on the city similar to a Cat. 1 Hurricane.
SmallParkShuttle Posted August 15, 2011 Share #27 Posted August 15, 2011 C'mon, you guys can't compare two storms based on rainfall alone. The 2007 storm had 2-3 inches of rain over the course of 2-3 hours while Sunday's storm rained for at least a good 15-18 hours. Also don't forget that the 2007 storm had confirmed tornados... Yesterday's storm was a long, wet storm that just wouldn't give up while 8/2007's storm was a powerhouse that hit hard and fast. Either way it'll screw up whatever is in the way. My church's bathrooms flooded yesterday- twice!
m7zanr160s Posted August 16, 2011 Share #28 Posted August 16, 2011 I'd hardly call 7 inches in one day a "mild rainstorm". Yeah, that was some serious rain.
