Would NJT ever use prevost???

When I see a Prevost, I immediately think "intercity bus company". I don't think of a transit authority. Therefore I believe any Prevosts should be used on the long routes. (319, 552, 551, 316, 196/197)

owell

I see its out of curiousity. Not plans

If Designline doesn't work out, I wouldn't be surprised if NJT goes to Prevost...remember that big MCI order in the early 1980s? Prevost was actually NJT's first choice (it would have been LeMirages).

I'm not sure if the X3 can fit upstairs at the PABT.

Plus the X3 doesn't have a steerable tag axle, it would be a big PITA trying to fight into and out of some of the gates up there.

Hell No! Transit would be to cheap to buy Prevost. just look at their recent purchase's. Nabi's & Designline! raggedy & crappy. they were cheap to make & buy which is y transit even purchased them. + Prevost are very expensive buses to make.

IIRC, the X3 is shorter than an MCI D series bus.

Also, isn't Trans Bridge upstairs at the PABT? I know they have a few Prevost X3s.

The turning radius is different on the x3s....those tight turns getting to gate 320 ect would be a bitch. Shyt even with the D4500s I was scared as hell turning between those cusa CTs and then that hard ass right into gate 319 or 320. There is almost no room for error. Backing out those gates are a nightmare; between that wall and those other buses turning right you be sweating bullets. I saw Howell guy off knock off a mirror and he was a new guy at that.

The X3 is 11'2"; if the MCI (which is 11'5") can fit there, so can the X3. Now, I'm sure that a steerable tag can be spec'd.

Now, the wheelbase could be an issue, as the X3-45 has a wheelbase of 27'11" (the D4500CT has a wheelbase of 26'7"). The D4000CT has a wheelbase of 23'4", and the Van Hool C2045 has a wheelbase of 25'5".

You damn right lol. Try making those turns with almost no room for error. But once you get use to it its ok.

You turn to wide you hit a wall or parked bus, you turn to short you hit a parked bus.

With the wheelbase on those prevost i dont think they could make those turns safely unless you completely customize a x3 from scratch.

Customization is New Jersey Transit's specialty....... :D

Trans Bridge guys might sneak up there to illegaly park but IIRC, all their gates are in the dungeon (aka lower level). Everybody that I've seen go upstairs at the PABT has a D model. NJT,CUSA,Lakeland,Bieber,Academy....if they go upstairs it's a D. A couple of years ago one of our DC drivers for confused and went upstairs in a J......let's just say that bus is no longer in service! lol

That's why I don't think NJT would buy the X3s. The guys for Greyhound and Bolt struggle with those buses on certain gates either at the PABT or Boston South Station....it's almost painful to watch. I give you guys much props for that operating in that sardine can upstairs.

I hope so unless the Designline buses can actually prove all the critics, including me, wrong. Or maybe NJT might wise up and get Prevosts, yet I bet you right now that if they did, how much the fares gonna go up since SOMEONE gotta pay for it.

You know as well as I do, 553, that getting into gate 319 is a bitch, especially during the rush. There's times that I have to swing that 45 so far to get in that gate, that I honestly thought I was gonna hit the wall. There were times I did the rush hour 319 and I came so close that you HAVE to back up, just to make sure that you got enough room and maneuverability to get going. Even 320 is a pain during the night time when you're getting in when you got a bus in 319 either parked or waiting to do the 11pm 319 trip. (How is that dude? He was very kind to me when I was working at NJT). And don't mention Howell. I got nothing against that garage but some of the drivers are insane. They drive like 40 or 50 mph in the PABT getting into the gates. I remember one time I was leaving gate 230 on the 127, and it was clear. Starter said go. I pull out, and here comes a 139 looking like his ass was on fire and nearly hit me. Man, that starter was so pissed, I missed the entire "meeting", yet I heard that driver, a ROOKIE, got the tongue lashing of a lifetime! lol

You think that's why Greyhound are getting more MCI's to deal with the turning radius situation?

I know who you talking About.

One of the drivers that do the 11pm collects cans for a hobby and the other one a bald headed war vet and speaks korean fluently. He is a great guy. That 11pm run is hard as hell to get. That run is untouchable! I very rarely see them cause they work late.

Those Howell guys are nuts lol im sorry. Like seriously this ain nascar boss. The very 1st day I did the 319 I froze something I will never forget. The instructor with was like is all gravey. I wanted to smack the black off his face.

When I had 7182 this cusa ct had his nose in ma ass. I got out that bus walked up to him and asked him if he was on crack. Lol the starter said the same. I had the clear to back up and hear comes this Jeff Gordon *******. I jamed on those brakes!

Lemme tell you something me and those cusa guys I let em know whats up. I aint even gona get talking with Howell lol.

I keep hearing that some of the older buses are getting rehab'd but I haven't seen anything yet. Quite a few buses definitely need new destination signs.

Maybe Master Khem or SJP can answer this....I was of the understanding that Oradell can't house the D4500s due to space constraints (which I assume is why they split runs with Meadowlands)....so anybody here think they may get brand new D4000s when order time comes up?

Also for my money....Howell, DeCamp,Trans-Bridge and CUSA are all F'n nuts when it comes Union City,495, the Helix/Lincoln Tunnel and the PABT.....from the time we come through the tolls on 495 they plant their foots to the floor!

The older D4000s&D4500s was suppose to get the orange luminator signs(havent heard anything since); and were suppose to be fitted with C13s to replace the Series 60 but cat has pulled out the highway biz. The Wash. Twp MCIs have been getting new seats and most of there MCIs have been fitted with cameras.

I'm just going from memory and it's been a couple years since I drove the X3 transmissions but they were not the best for city driving. They are great for over the road, parkway, turnpike, etc... but in town the transmission shifting can be a little bumpy unless you master it and still, it is a little rough.

I loved driving them and the whole "green" zero emissions thing is great but still my opinion is, they would not be the best fit.

Those X3s with the ZF trannys are horrible for city driving. I think BzGuy said that Greyhounds X3s were being fitted with Allison trannys. ZFs are most effective on highway driving.

And @BZ Oradell cant handle 45footers because of space issues.

Oradell have ZERO room for 45's. They can barely fit 40's. I am hoping they move out of that sardine can they call a garage soon so they can get 45's. Also cuz if it rains, it floods. If it floods, that garage is fliucked.

BTW - CUSA doesn't get paid by the minute like NJT is. By the trip. Unless it's community coach, where they get 10.80 a hour, last I remember, or LESS, doing one of the 700 lines, ya ass is rushing to do more trips to get more cheddar. That's why when I was doing the 351 or the 353, when we was told to go home, its cuz CUSA wanted to do the scraps, so they can get paid per trip.

Did you work for coachusa??? If so tell me a bit more about how they manage the 700 runs and the 77 and other distance runs do drivers constantly switch from 700 series run to long distance runs?? Or from one 700 route to another if off-topic PM me I am still a bit ignorant on the operating structure. I made massive mistakes earlier reguarding NJ's routing structure.

Can you go one thread without askin about routes?
