MiXxDiDdY Posted August 17, 2011 #1 Posted August 17, 2011 "Just wondering when you guys think NJT will purchase some artics to replace the 2003 Neoplans..? Cause from what I see on the 39, 13, 156, 159 routes, those buses are starting to show some serious wear and tear..which is sad cause they aren't even 10 years old yet. Also, when it's time to replace the Neo's, what company do you guys think NJT will purchase the new artics from?!"

I would guess maybe 3 to 5 years of service left. Maybe a rehab will give them more years.
553 Bridgeton Posted August 17, 2011 #3 Posted August 17, 2011 Those neos from fairview frequent the Washington Twp Garage sometimes when work needs to be done.
aemoreira81 Posted August 17, 2011 #4 Posted August 17, 2011 I wonder if the Nova LFS artic would be a suitable replacement...or do those buses have overhangs that are too long? The wheelbase is 22'/22'9".
Cait Sith Posted August 18, 2011 #5 Posted August 18, 2011 It also makes you wonder what would come about if they stuck with NABI.... I would kill to see these (without the wheel covers)
Mikan Wilhelm Posted August 18, 2011 #6 Posted August 18, 2011 It also makes you wonder what would come about if they stuck with NABI.... I would kill to see these (without the wheel covers) i gotta say thats pretty damn epic looking haha
DaTransitMan4608 Posted August 18, 2011 #7 Posted August 18, 2011 It also makes you wonder what would come about if they stuck with NABI.... I would kill to see these (without the wheel covers) Already Got to work on something like that:
553 Bridgeton Posted August 18, 2011 #8 Posted August 18, 2011 if these buses came to njt id be finished!
SirJokaPlaya Posted August 19, 2011 #9 Posted August 19, 2011 if these buses came to njt id be finished! Finished? Why? Anyway, the only thing that I would be concerned about with those buses is if it's too tall for the PABT and the front door - I think it should be custom built, especially since some of the gates that those buses are used at might touch the actual gate, like gate 200 door 2 for the 156, gates 201 and 202 for the different gate doors for the 156R/159R, and the 154 in gate 214. Besides that, if the turning radius is the same or better than the Neo's, then go for it. But, lets get rid of those wheel covers. UGLY! Maybe put those on the 126 and 128 during the RUSH HOUR only at times as well.
553 Bridgeton Posted August 19, 2011 #10 Posted August 19, 2011 These buses dont look that tall, and i am sure njt would make sure its customized from the gate. I dont like that single door though....
Donald Posted August 20, 2011 #11 Posted August 20, 2011 What makes everyone so sure the Neoplans are on their way out? The predecessors to the Neoplans, the Volvo artics, were in service for nearly 20 years (1985-2004).
qjtransitmaster Posted August 20, 2011 #12 Posted August 20, 2011 It also makes you wonder what would come about if they stuck with NABI.... I would kill to see these (without the wheel covers) Those buses are HOT like the new SSJ avatar I am a DBZ fan too. SDMTS who are they??nevermind they are San diego's buses??
Cait Sith Posted August 20, 2011 #13 Posted August 20, 2011 These buses dont look that tall, and i am sure njt would make sure its customized from the gate. I dont like that single door though.... 11 feet 5 inches, as tall as your average MCI.
DaTransitMan4608 Posted August 20, 2011 #14 Posted August 20, 2011 I dont like that single door though.... What about NFI DE60LFAs? They dont have single doors. Just get rid of the wheel covers, slap some NJT paint on it and you got one hell of an NJT artic ^^Found that pic on NFI's site

SirJokaPlaya Posted August 21, 2011 #18 Posted August 21, 2011 What about cost? As Pablo201 said in another forum, NJT is cheap. Cuz, they went with Designline and NABI's instead of thinking about getting buses from MCI or maybe NovaBUS.

Cuz, they went with Designline and NABI's instead of thinking about getting buses from MCI or maybe NovaBUS. Well they had to go with Designline they were low bidder. Now that does not mean they will except the buses. I think MCI will get the contract in the end. As far as the Nabi's they were the only ones willing to still make the standard floor bus NJT wanted.

MiXxDiDdY Posted October 13, 2011 Author #22 Posted October 13, 2011 That's great they refurbishing those Big Tree neoplans. They were starting to look really beat..plenty of Neoplans I saw had ripped up seats, buses were breaking down, and exterior paint was chipped badly. However, if you think that sounds bad, those Neoplan suburbans at Fairview are at least TWICE as bad. i hope they're refurbing them soon too."

Millennium went belly up, and no one was making RTS buses. NJT F'ed up YEARS ago with trying to get buses, thats why New Flyer, Orion, and other companies think NJT is a POS when involving business. To be quite honest, I was shocked that another company wanted to do business with NJT, being Designline.
D.J. Posted October 13, 2011 #25 Posted October 13, 2011 NJ Transit can't legally get rid of the buses until 2015, so bear with them while they're here...
