Eric Posted August 22, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 22, 2011 Riding out to Coney Island today I saw a train sitting in the yard for some reason. I know that A division trains can make it out there, I was just wondering if anyone had insight as to why it'd be there. No photo, sorry.
Joe Posted August 22, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 22, 2011 Perhaps it's being serviced?

TwoTimer Posted August 22, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 22, 2011 Very, very common for IRT trains to get overhauled in CIY, its just any OH barn that got space, its not necessarily the one closest to IRT lines.

TwoTimer Posted August 22, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 22, 2011 Usually cars like these are linked to other "transport cars" on each end that allow travel in the IND/BMT since the trip arms are on the opposite side from the IRT (transport cars have trips on both sides and can go anywhere). sovetskii52 Posted September 3, 2011 Share #9 Posted September 3, 2011 I've never seen a video of an IRT train traveling along a BMT or IND route. I would like to see how that R62 got to the Coney Island Yard.
KNIGHTRIDER3:16 Posted September 3, 2011 Share #10 Posted September 3, 2011 I've been in the yard and seen 2 62's in the service area and a 7 train pass right in front of me down by the R160's Layup so this ain't new but interesting how they got there and nobody catching it. Gong Gahou Posted September 4, 2011 Share #11 Posted September 4, 2011 ...but interesting how they got there and nobody catching it. When I first saw it I immediately took pictures of it. March 30, 2011: It was horrible, so I took another shot the next day.

Metro CSW Posted September 4, 2011 Share #14 Posted September 4, 2011 I've seen R-62s @ CI Yard a lot when I want to John Dewey HS. I always thought that CI Yard had better maintenance and repair for all trains that IRT cars would just stop by from time to time. Even the former Redbirds arrive as well and I go "WTF!!!" King Of RedBirds Posted September 4, 2011 Share #15 Posted September 4, 2011 I'm gonna take a guess at how the gets to coney. The R62's go to 207 St then go via the (A)/(D) to Coney. The goes thru concourse yard to do the same thing.

The picture of the at the Coney Island Yard is from the line I know because if it was from the Coney Island Yard from the , there wil be one rail there and that rail is the one next to the train Gong Gahou and I took. Martford Posted September 10, 2011 Share #17 Posted September 10, 2011 It was not uncommon for the 6 door cars to get DRAGGED into that shop. Convenience to the nearest repair shop. Flat wheels are one reason.
